Other than scaring away brown people, what is the purpose of baby sitting the ballot boxes? to keep racists in riot gear from intimidating voters.

Other than scaring away brown people, what is the purpose of baby sitting the ballot boxes? FWIW it is the police who indicate they are "babysitting". A second reason for watching the ballot boxes is to spot people who deposit more than one ballot at one time or come back and deposit a second ballot at a different time. I don't know Arizona law but in Washington it is legal for an individual to put already voted, signed, and sealed ballot envelopes in the mail or ballot boxes for others.

Cyber Ninjas got $3.25M JUST from the Overstock.com guy. their workers got $200/hr to sort ballots. i am not joking about any of this. Mike Flynn sent them $650k. they got similar amounts from Steve Bannon. those fucking clowns in Cosplay probably got $500 each for standing around all night. it is quite lucrative being a paramilitary asshole, if you know the right chains to pull. i would love to live in AZ so i could go out there and play circus music for them.

here is the list of "donors" including some mentioned above. NOTE: the Arizona State Senate still owes them $100k:
REVENUE
The America Project 3,250,000 $
America's Future 976,514
Voices and Votes 643,495
Defending The Republic 550,000
LDFFTAR/EIFFTAR 280,000
Arizona State Senate 50,000
GROSS REVENUE 5,750,009
also note that none of these "corporations" reveal the actual backers, but it is easy enough to find it out, just by looking them up. this (list) is a cesspool of crazy.
NOTE: this is from their financial reports, available through the cyberninjas site. i would be ZERO PERCENT surprised if the same players were not involved in the "stop the steal" nonsense this time.

Thyme, There is always western Washington.. Cascades on the east, B.C. to the north, the Pacific to the west, and Oregon to the south. That’s a pretty damn good buffer even if the wackos take over for (hopefully) only a few years. Or Turkey for the surprisingly paranoid.😎 convince me that the US is not heading to a place that is somewhat worse than Turkey. take all the time you like. this is a very patient forum. Maybe so with Trump being an Erdogan wanna be.

Hi dj You asked me to comment on this - but I am not sure what to say. AZ is in a bad way. TV is wall to wall political ads, and it seems like more are for the GOP - lots of talk about rampant crime and those terrible immigrants - very emotional issues that seem to sell. The dems are concentrating on abortion and defeating election deniers, but I am not sure it is landing. I think they should be focused on the economy. Katie Hobbs is silent, Kari Lake is working her only skill - being on TV. I can’t tell if Mark Kelly is holding or not. The GOP is tying him to Biden a lot, and let’s be honest - Biden isn’t great. I am holding out that Finchem will lose, but I am not hopeful. The best case scenario is that Finchem wins and stands up and says that the elections are not corrupt - but another best case scenario is I win the billion dollar lottery from a ticket I found on the ground. That clip of Bronovich with Jon Stewart shows just how desperate people are to stay in the party and will say whatever they need to not get cast out. Seriously - Bronovich is a downright fucking hero for democracy for only not agreeing with Jon Stewart even though he doesn’t disagree with him either. (Compared to the others) This podcast with the county recorder is an interesting look at what it is like to be a Republican that doesn’t deny the election. He likens it to being at war. Absolutely nuts. I fled AZ for the pacific northwest in August. I worried I was being too reactionary to changes that were decades in motion, but there were just too many crazy things to ignore.

thanks, Thyme. how you holding up? Ask me again on Wednesday 😬 I am not sure leaving AZ is enough - if AZ goes, the whole country is in danger. And the more liberals leave red states, the more likely it is that the GOP will take over the country. So, no matter what happens - I either have to stay and fight, or leave the country. And I doubt I will leave the country, so…

With 63% counted, it’s literally neck and neck - Lake is behind but only by less than 1%. She needs to lose solidly or she’ll spend the next half century screaming voter fraud.

As usual - a mixed bag. No solid results until Friday.
The Good as of Wednesday 9:45 am:
Kari Lake hasn’t won. She hasn’t lost, but she hasn’t won.
Blake Masters is pretty far behind. That is looking good for Mark Kelly.
Mark Finchem is pretty far behind. To me, this is one of the most important races in the country. Finchem said he wouldn’t certify any election he thought was suspect, even if he had no proof. He is the end of Democracy in a Cowboy Hat.
For propositions:
As of now, voter ID is losing, campaign finance disclosure is winning and in-state tuition for dreamers is ahead. Those are all blue positions.
Also - there was a prop saying that the AZ legislature could change propositions that were passed by the people, and that is losing badly. Woo hoo!
The Bad:
Kari Lake is gaining, and day-of voting seems to be leading R. There was also some problem at a few polling locations and they are already crying foul.
Two props are winning that I don’t like - one is that any future prop can only cover one single topic (so we can’t codify abortion and contraception in the same proposition). The other prop that is passing is that tax props need to pass by 60%. This is because they are defunding schools and we keep passing propositions to fund them. They have been stealing that money - but now they will just make it super hard to pass a new tax.
And - of course - our state legislature is still heavy red. Still bad news - but it would be insane if it wasn’t true.
