Tiny, back to the original question in this thread...we had TROPICAL STORM FAYE (never a hurricane) stall out over us in 1994. It flood this whole area of Ga. and was a total mess for several days. Albany, Ga. has a river running thru town...you had about an 8 hr. drive to get from one side of town to the other. So the Tropical Storms were named back at least as far as '94 and I remember others before that too, but none of those affected me.
Port Charlotte, Punta Gorda, Fort Myers, Cape Coral, the barrier islands and other small communities in there are all a mess right now. I lived in or around Punta Gorda for 3 years back in the early 70's. We kept our horses at a ranch near Cape Coral back then. DH & I went down after hurricane Charley to help clean up....OMG, what a mess...and from all reports, Ian is way worse than Charley was. There was no surge with Charley! Punta Gorda hospital sits nearly on Charlotte Harbor/Peace River...so am sure they had major flooding there. Hope they got all the patients out before it hit. We used to live in a rental that was across the street from the ER entrance....that house has been gone for ages now, turned into a parking area for hospital employees.
