Unusual for a used EV to need battery replaced since most EVs aren’t very old,. Read today that Tesla batteries might be good for 300,000 miles!! Maybe it was a Prius? They’re been around a long time and batteries are about that cost. DIL has had a Prius for about 18? Years. Battery needed replacing for about $5000. My Tesla has battery guarantee for 8 yrs or 100,000 miles, they don’t really start to deteriorate till less than 80% . Really it’s an unknown since haven’t been in production for that long. Maybe $15,000 to $18000 to replace? People say what about pollution from old batteries in landfills. But won’t these big batteries be recycled for the lithium etc? br]Wouldn’t buy a hybrid. Too complex with both electric and gas and the required interface. Read that most folks stop charging their plug in hybrids cause it’s forgettable and anyway it’s only about 25-30 miles using the electric then into the gas
Yeah with all the qualifications in the bill won’t help many.

I think whatever it was, was a 2014 or 2013 model. For me a hybrid would be useful as my commute is easily under 25 miles as is most of my driving.

My Honda is a hybrid. Before this we had a Prius. I really miss that car. I was nervous about the Prius battery. Not so with the Honda. It's a 2011 with about 25,000 miles. I know, I don't go anywhere!

The old tax credit paradigm for EVs were useless for us, and other lower income people because the credit was non-refundable and didn't carry over.
It sounds like the new credits can be transferred to the dealership, to act as a point-of-sale discount. That could work. But, the new North America built rules and battery rules mean few models qualify right now. So I'm waiting...
I really don't want a hybrid - worst of both worlds. Getting rid of the ICE should mean lots less maintenance.

I thought before it was a tax credit, and I needed to owe $7500 in tax to use up the credit. I already have lots of non-refundable credits that I can't make use of and waste every year. I saw that for the household energy stuff, some are tax credits, and some are rebates. Rebates would work for us, tax credits might if they carry forward (and we do Roth conversions to use up the credits over time). But creating a fake tax obligation in this way has other costs - it creates a bigger state tax bill that is not offset by the federal tax credit. And the state has smaller standard deductions, so state tax already kicks in at a lower AGI than federal does. Pushing federal tax up by $7500 pushes us up more state brackets (shallower).

When I bought my Tesla the $7500 was deducted from price. It was a big part of my decision. Tesla and I think GM have sold 100,000 cars (IIRC) so no longer can offer the $7500 as based on previous
I don’t know about the new bill if it’s the same or just a credit on taxes
