I took the kids to Subway last Sunday and it was $34 for the three of us to get 6" subs. Only two were meal deals. I about died.

Eating out is where I am seeing very high prices. We went to a tapas place over the weekend near the beach and they added a 18% gratuity for 4 people and then asked for extra tips. Maybe they count on people not realizing they already added the tip to the bill?

Tostitos chips were $5.99 for the regular size bag at Publix in Kitty Hawk, NC. I nearly died. I normally buy huge bags at Sam's Club for $4. I don't buy a ton of bacon. It's generally a weekend thing and I throw a couple slices in when cooking fresh green beans. I usually buy a big package of thick cut bacon at Sam's and divide it out into smaller portions. It's over $20 for 4 pounds. I agree the sales at stores aren't very good these days. The ads around here got very thin after covid and haven't changed. Target in particular, their sales are non existent. They have zero soda deals these days. I am addicted to Diet Pepsi. I use my apps to Check Target, Walgreens, and 2 grocery stores and buy it wherever it is priced best for the week. I should divide the bacon into smaller portions, DH always cooks too much. I put leftovers in refrigerator and he will use on hamburgers etc. I also hate Target’s buy 4 of something get a $5 GC first of all there are 2 people in my household. I don’t need to buy 4 bottles of Detergent or 4 Deodorants and I don’t have space to store it. Last week at Meijers I spent a lot of time figuring out a purchase of $30 of paper products to get $10 credit, ended up with a big package of paper towels I didn’t need and messed up somehow and didn’t get the credit.

Monday Hyvee had $1.48 6 pack 16 oz bottles, but the limit was two. I stopped 3 times and sent the kid to get some. LOL My go to was always Sam's Club but even they are pushing $10 for a 24 pack now.
This might actually be what it takes to start cutting back!

What kills me is when they have those sales on non-consumables like the Swiffer sticks. I can understand having it on the bottles of cleaning stuff but the sticks themselves

I can tell you where inflation isn't:
Haagen Dazs "pints". They haven't been a full pint for many years now so I'm not seeing any shrinkflation there.
Kroger sells them for $5.99 (this price has been pretty standard everywhere I've shopped for the past ten years, including in Delaware) and has them on sale for $2.50 each when you buy three or more. Usually, it's $3.99 each when you buy five or more.

Is this a vacation spot? They probably have an issue with people not tipping in general and felt like they had to add the automatic gratuity. If they add only 18% then I would tip more (20% is bare minimum for me). I also would prefer to just rip off the band-aid and pay more in food prices at restaurants so servers can earn a real wage and not depend on the whims of customers.

This is a vacation spot for a lot of people, but home for us. We do pay 20% if the service is good.

DH was trying to help me out, since I'm running back & forth to visit my relative in hospice, so he picked up a meal at KFC. A 12-piece bucket of chicken, 3 sides, and 6 biscuits is currently $41.99 at full price. He had a coupon which got us about $10 off, but still. No way would I pay that if life wasn't so rushed for me right now.

Maybe they count on people not realizing they already added the tip to the bill? This happens more often than not. However, one of the local places we have SLAP at have ceased to add the auto grat to our bills because they know they'll usually do better without it.

From the article:
That seems weird because I thought there was little demand for new houses since the Great Recession and that's why there was so little inventory available during the pandemic. Builders where building houses because no one was buying them.
(Ok, as I was seeing housing prices increase in 2018/2019 in the 3 areas I watch - my feeling is that the run up in prices once Covid hit was just lots of people suddenly having lots of money and deciding to buy a house/some sort of property. Which might have been from trump's tax cuts and all the "cash" businesses had (and perhaps distributed to the owners/executives). and then I'm also guessing the transfer of wealth from the big hit of covid deaths of the elderly may have also played a part. I'm sure not every person who died from Covid had left a fat inheritance but I suspect that with the death rate in America and with the majority of the deaths being people 65 and older - there was more "transfer of wealth" than would normally happen with a routine "death" year. )
And then this:
I'm not sure 5% is all that meaningful a drop. Housing prices skyrocketed over the past 2 years.
(the property manager of my rental property just proposed a 22% increase in rent for when the lease renews in October. A 5% drop from the suggest rent amount - still means an over 15% increase in rent. I know I'm comparing apples to oranges... but the housing market increase in housing prices have been just as dramatic as the increase in rents. )

That’s a lot of nerve. It's really not. Not common, but not a hardship. It ensures the staff gets tipped. You can add a couple extra dollars to bring the tip to 20% or you can be a tightwad and leave it at 18%.

We went to dinner for Mister’s birthday a few months ago. His parents and brother also went. I paid for me, Mister and YD, it was almost $200. I only gave the bill a glance and paid cash, including a 20% tip. The server brought the tip back, explaining that it had already been included in the bill. I gave him $20 of it back, because I appreciated his honesty in bringing my error to my attention.

Diet Pepsi addict here also. I get six pack 16 oz. I have it down to a fine science as to who has them on sale here. Seems to rotate between stores. Somebody has then on sale most of the time. Yep a little difference in price. But when I can buy 4 for $10.00 I will double up. But I rarely pay more than $3.33 per six pack now. Not saying that won’t change but the norm so far.

We have store here that had a limit. No kids to send in so I stopped at the two other stores on my way home. Didn’t have to go out of way fortunately

Even though I enjoy KFC as a treat once in a while, I won't be buying it anytime in the foreseeable future.
