Was thinking to go long on CLF this week due to their dismal performance after announcing earnings last week. The actual performance was not that bad to it last week and I was thinking it meight recover this week. US Steel also reports this Friday and not sure how the various funds will treat them based on CLF performance last week.
Going with a new pick this week. never traded in a pharma stock in the contest that I can remember.
Phizer reports this week. Last four quarters they have beaten earnings projections by at least ten cents a share and I expect them to do it this time. Hoping for a good pop on the stock as so much news comes out this week and the stock market gurus are going to be a little confused on what to do with all the news. I believe the FED will go 75 basis points, but talking heads are all over the place at one hundred points or 50 point increase. Lots of other data comes out and it will be a confusing week for direction of the stocks and indexes and traders might go into pharma to hide this week.
Phizer, ticker PFE, LONG.

DJ, You have caught my interest here. I follow cattle and hog futures on the commodity exchange, but am unfamiliar with COW. I saw where this is through Barclays. Cattle futures have held strong during the current commodity decline, one of only a couple of ones that have stayed stable. Lean hogs have come down some, about ten dollars or so and I am thinking cattle will follow soon, as feed prices should be declining plus grilling season winds down next month. Of course that is a future trend, not a one week prediction. Regardless, Fridays price for COW was about $38.85 or so, so am surprised your target is $39.50. Am I missing something? Are you expecting a huge beat over the target?

VB- i am running this ONLY on technicals. but candidly, meat is a fairly conservative commodity. it is quite rare to get large movements. but i did change my target earlier today. i think 10% is the limit of what might be got on this in the intermediate term, but possible.

It seems after WMT annouced a warning of lower profit by about 7% for the quarter they are in after the bell, it looks like oil and NG were the big plays this week. NG up another 10% this morning. I cannot imagine what heating bills wil be this winter. This last winter our bill was up 7% over previous year, and that is in an empty house with thermostat set at 50 degrees to keep the pipes from freezing. Consumer confidence comes out at 9 am central which might spook the markets and tomorrow the Fed weighs in. Might be a bumpy ride this week.
I liked NXPI's report after the bell. It might support prices for the chip manufacture companies.

UNG might have hit an intermediate term high this morning at 31.5 it is back to 30 on 6.5M shares, which at this time of the morning is pretty heavy trading.
update: UNG closed at around 30, on 12M shares. that is about 2x average volume. we will see how it opens, but it traded LOWER after hours.

And Kadee is on the bottom...it really dropped out for me. i mentioned something a while back. i think the only two strategies that are going to CONSISTENTLY work, until we reach capitulation are: a) commodities investments b) shorting i am still convinced this is true.

Not sure about that. Look at Microsoft and Google yesterday. Both posted less than good earnings, and yet up nicely this morning. Not sure where Chipolte Mexican grill is this morning but same thing. After hours up over 5%.

MSFT is -20% YTD. so is GOOG. meanwhile, UNG is +150%, DBC is +20%. until about a month ago, grains were also +20%, but they got taken down a notch in mid-June and are now BARELY higher.

Well, it does work both ways. MSFT at a 30% discount can be a bargain four years feom now. GOOG is not going anywhere either. I follow the commodities but if you think the big boys run stocks up and down, it is nothing compared to commodity trading. Need tight stops and constant monitoring to stay even, alommost a full time job and not for feint of heart

DCA until the cows come home, i guess.

omg! four of you are within 1%!!!! LOL! i think the market will go down tomorrow. the Fed news really was not very good. that was a "relief" rally, imo. on a brighter note: the Dow support level of 30k seems to have held for a bit now.

Powell did what I wouold call Goldilocks question and answer after the rate hike. He looked like he was trying to save the stock market while insisting they will slay inflation. Cannot do both, but I thought he was at least more honest in his responses than in previous marks

Can anyone explain why my horse falls on the track after reporting record revenue, record profit and announces a new round of purchases of covid vaccine from the government? Their quarterly report was as good as it gets and their forward guidance was good too. This stock does not move much in the first place and yet is down two days in a row?
