The last fresh strawberries I bought from a local farm market were $5.99/quart. The farm is local a few miles away from me. They have a market closer to my house.
Maybe some smaller farms are cheaper. But then you have to find out about them and drive there and with gas at $5/gallon that's not a great use of funds.
We prefer fresh and to support local farms but it's certainly not cheaper here. Maybe in other places it is.

This always make me scratch my head... that if "there is no meat - we aren't able to make an actual meal" state of mind. Like this person can't conceptualize adding some pasta and/or a can of white beans to that vegetable soup. Maybe vegetable soup is a code word for something else and I'm being too literal? Is this kind of like when people think that they could never be a vegetarian because the only meals they can think of that don't have meat are mac and cheese and PB&Js Sorry... that sentence in the article "triggered me". Or maybe they like vegetable soup without meat or beans?

Also no meat but haven't been meat eater for about 20 yrs now. No biggie I vacuum seal/freeze bits of left over veggies and get a yen for vegetable soup and just look in freezer and cut open all the little bits and in big ole pot. May add a few other veggies that are sitting in fridge waiting to be frozen!! OH and not a vegetarian - I've been called the "p" word since I eat seafood!!

I am a vegetarian and couldn't tell you the last time I have eaten meat.
I'm not big on beans in soup either.
I have many cousins who tell e they couldn't be a vegetarian because they love meat and they don't want to eat, lettuce, mac and cheese and PB&J. There are all kinds of food they could eat if they so desired. I tell them a bout with colon cancer at age 47 is a wake up call to rethink your diet.

I get some stew meat, a small amount to flavor my veggie soup. Until we started buying the amish meat, most of the meat I bought tasted awful. Since it added no flavor I would add the liquid type bouillion to help flavor it. Don't need to do that anymore.
Like I've said before hubs is kind of hard to cook for. DD and I no issued.
The cats have been wonderful since hubs is gone. No waking me up for breakfast, only to go out! Then they come back in later to eat some. Bedroom door open no bugging me at night. I told DD I think they are going out of the way to aggravate hubs, LOL!
I got flea stuff on Smokey, have to do Tigger tonight. He knows the sound and shape of the flea treatment container and runs. I have to get it out, punch the top and hide it behind my back, but he has got wise to that too and knows what is coming. They just hate that stuff but they have started scratching so they need it. I will get him tonight.
Later all.

oil prices are off 10%. the trend is still solid at this point, however. i would not guess that pullback in price will hold up, unfortunately.

Supply chain issues still ongoing.
My library got a notice from People magazine - they are suspending publication of the print edition for 6 months. No charge access to the digital edition for subscribers during that period, which is useless for our library subscription (patrons can't "checkout" our digital copy). OK magazine stopped publication altogether. And the big city metro newspaper subscription fee jumped thru the roof recently, while the paper itself gets thinner. Little city newspaper dropped another day per week that it's printed.

Like others have said, I don't really keep up with the rise on individual items but I sure can see the increase on my credit card. I put everything on the CC and pay it off each month. I am buying all the same things I normally do and the CC has increased by almost $300. This month I went through every charge because I could not believe my credit card was so much higher. In looking back through the last few months I see it has been creeping up, but I guess it was high enough this month for me to REALLY notice it.
One thing I am noticing is a significant increase in hotel prices. I travel a lot for work and hotels are mega expensive. Flights too but it's the hotels that are really shocking me.

Article in the local paper yesterday that there is a shortage of paper that voting ballots and the secrecy envelopes are printed on.
That could totally screw things up in November.

DD13 was making us lunch yesterday. She got out one of those Knorr noodle packages. I remember when DH and I would eat them several times a week for dinner during our poorer early married without kids days. A package fed both of us with one lunch leftover. I remember when it went to two servings. Yesterday DD noticed that the package was only one serving size. This was her first example of size-flation. Good lesson.

I noticed this week that the 35 pack of store brand water that was $3.99 and often on sale as 2 for $6 or 3 for $9 is now $4.99. Have not seen a sale since my last purchase of 3 cases, so not sure what that will look like. It could likely be cheaper to shop sales of name brands, but we prefer the taste of the generic.

Math-challenged Nikki Haley: It would be nice to find one Republican with a f***ing brain. Guess we can cross Haley off the list. Also guess that's why she went into politics. Who knew accounting majors would have to do math stuff?

The problem is that too many Americans think she is correct.

The problem is that too many Americans think she is correct. I saw one of those on gas prices yesterday. If it was correct, the US and Canada have the lowest per gallon prices right now. Higher than anywhere in Europe or Australia.

The problem is that too many Americans think she is correct. The biggest problem with the American public is that it is composed predominantly of people who should not be allowed out in it.

The problem is that too many Americans think she is correct. sure, because if you have 100 items, and each is 1% more expensive, your bill doubles. right?

not to belabor the point, but inflation is a big worry among consumers right now. the GOP knows it has no winning policy issues other than "inflation sux" right now, so what else can they do?
i am not excusing. i am explaining.

The problem is that the conservative voters don't realize that inflation is happening all over the world, which it is.

Math-challenged Nikki Haley: How incredibly innumerate! I feel sorry for the intended audience of such poor math.
