Cost me about 5k to get a kitten's leg amputated, and that was after spending 3-4k trying to save the leg. I believe it. A friend posted her GoFundMe on FB after her doggie chewed up part of a rug and ended up with strands of yarn in his innards. She eventually talked a general vet (as opposed to a surgeon) to do the surgery to save money and the dog survived but a friend whose daughter is a vet said that's VERY complicated and stressful surgery. I have contributed to GoFundMes but not to this one. Really? You couldn't afford this expense and you didn't buy insurance to cover it?To be fair, pet insurance is usually pretty crappy.

I'm thinking she left out a 0? Cost me about 5k to get a kitten's leg amputated, and that was after spending 3-4k trying to save the leg.The vet did a fantastic job on that surgery, so glad we didn't have a regular vet do it. This was the surgeon at the emergency vet place. They are really fantastic, but the wait can be brutal if you pet isn't critical. Interested to try the appointment system this time. Last time I tried that, we were waiting for forever, and eventually had to let the cat out of the crate. You have a tripod, too?!?! Both my boys are tripods, but I adopted them after their surgeries. Thanks you, shelter donations! I donate to ACCT Philly's surgery fund each year now because they gave my boys a new life. there were feral kittens in my garage, and I was trying to tame them, went to feed 2-3 times a day. was making some progress with getting a little petting in. One morning walked in and one was strung up in an old soccer goal netting. I still feel so guilty about it. If I had thrown the thing out, if I could have untangled the rope around his leg before getting to vet, but he was scared and feral and it was all I could to cut him out and get into a crate, but maybe once inside I could have tried more? slim chance it would have made a difference, but maybe?

also the little tripod became my daughter's favorite. She took him with her when she moved to california. Hopefully will get to see the little guy when she comes for christmas. She's planning to bring her two cats and stay for a month. Little guy is like 12 pounds now!
He was so annoying, always climbing into my lap, on my keyboard, constantly, all the time. I miss him so much!

That’s what I’ve heard too so just pay what’s needed. Knock on wood, our cats have been pretty minimal. It did suck when 1 of my cats had a UTI then kidney stones back-to-back and also allergy shots. I need to take that cat to the vet in 3 weeks for her annual appointment and will need to ask about the allergy shots. She was pulling her hair out on her paws/lower legs, but she’s stopped that. Now it’s her belly. Our other cat seems fine…. He’s not due for his annual exam until September/October I think.

He isn't overwieght, these are just big cats. I brought the parents in for TNR, and they commented on how big the father was!

We get a discount on top of employer paid pet insurance, but it's saved us a ton. Devil dog has gi issues and allergies and has had so many scans and meds. Since he was covered from the day we got him there aren't any preexisting conditions. It pays for a probiotic that he'll probably take for life that costs $100 a month.
When our last dog bloated her $5k surgery cost us $500 after insurance. The employer discount on top of insurance mostly covers exam fees so I don't think much if anything was discounted.
I'll have to ask how much we'd be paying per month on our current animals to see how it would balance out.

so when I tried yesterday for er vet, had 9pm or 1240 am sunday, thought I would wait to today, got up earlier to get into the queue. started at 3pm, then 3:48, then 4:55, now at 6:05. Not sure how late I can go or better to do tomorrow? Up to an 8 appt I think will work. Of course, when you are waiting all day to pop over the er vets, the cats gets more lively, lol. Still going to take him

Blood sugar and kidney levels elevated a little. Slight heart murmur. Nothing too critical, will do more test, urinalysis and long term blood sugar level, follow up with the existing appt at regular vet.
Visit was 175, so looks like 75 for reg vet reasonable.
With all test, fluids, and some meds to make him eat more total is about $850.

I just paid $1,350 for my old boy to be diagnosed with pancreatitis plus pick up 6 months worth of heart worm, flea and tick meds for both dogs. About gave me sticker shock! He's worth it.

Still waiting for the sent out test results. I'd be super worried about his behavior if I hadn't taken him in, still a bit worried he is so crabby I know he isn't feeling well.
