I don't think abortion should be a federal matter. It's not an equality issue like race, or gay marriage. AS you can guess i'm against abortion. Personally I like the heartbeat bill, it doesn't outlaw abortion but still protects the child. You can definitely see why the left didn't want Trumps supreme court picks. They enjoyed many years the interpretation of the constitution with rosy colored liberal glasses on.

The United States is an utter failure. The best thing to do now would be to peacefully dissolve the union and give a time frame for all citizens to relocate to regions that will become the country in which they want to reside. A good 10 year plan to avoid an all out civil war would save a lot of money, lives and heartache.

I don't see an upside to having more unwanted children being cared for by parents who wish they did not exist. Two parents recently blowtorched their child and 'melted' them into a sofa. I wasn't up to reading the article as the things some people do to young kids is horrifying. I want less of that. Getting rid of abortion will give us more of that and more children in poverty. Not a plus.

One of my coworkers raised a child conceived of rape. Her Catholic upbringing did not allow her to have an abortion. I felt sorry for both of them. That child was not loved, only tolerated. I cannot imagine growing up in a household where your birthday was "skipped", instead of celebrated. Needless to say, now that the child is grown, mother & daughter don't have much of a relationship.

Based upon the his comments in the leaked draft, Justice Samuel Alito doesn't believe gay marriage is an equal rights issue. According to Alito, there is nothing in the U.S. Constitution which mentions marriage let alone same-sex marriage. Supreme Court leak overturning abortion rights has Democrats concerned that same-sex marriage and civil rights could be next

One theory going around about who leaked this is that a conservative member of the court leaked it to force other conservatives who were wavering to fall in line with it. The theory is Roberts wanted a less draconian decision- abortion allowed within the first trimester and allowances for later abortions for rape, incest or the health of the mother. I originally thought that, but it sounds like they will try to disbar any lawyer who is responsible and if it was a justice they will try to impeach them. I think it has to have been a law clerk, but even for them, the consequences will be severe. I don't get all the Republicans trying to claim the Democrats are trying to politicize the court. Really, that is what they did with their 3 supreme court picks. Cry me a river, it is falling on deaf ears. I also am not comfortable with the states rights arguments. The states are more Gerrymandered than the federal government, at least my state (WI) is. It will be easier for them to eliminate the right to abortion at the state level than at the Federal Level. Slavery was a state's rights issue too. Wonder how far their plans go.

My mom couldn’t even bring herself to say the word gay. We can’t go back to that mindset. We're still there. I'm pulling my girl from the cub scouting program at our Catholic school at the end of this year and putting her in a different program.
As apart of the "rules," the diocese is suggesting that we don't talk about gays. If some kid wants to confide that they are gay, they are to be told no, can't do that. My youngest won't be doing scouting at all at our church when the time comes. We'll see how the rhetoric goes with current events. I've already told DH that if it goes beyond WWJD....then I want to pull the kids and send them to public school.

I think it is an equality matter. Men's medical needs are not nearly as regulated or fodder for laws as women's medical needs. Furthermore, (white) men generally are the ones that folks focus on when it comes to medical research. It would also be nice if both sides could present the truth about basic biological functions. There are men that think an ectopic pregnancy is 100% safe from a medical prospective. That you can carry a child, to term, housed in your tube.
Think about that. We can't even get to a basic, common understanding of basic biology of women. We're still living in a time where a female golfer gets "applauded for her honesty" when she said she needed to stretch her back because it hurt while she was on her period. Where do we applaud men for talking honestly about their junk? Whether it's for slang or getting the snip-snip.
Men and women are not equal. I'd like to live long enough to see that change.

Let the South slip into a Handmaids Tale where wealthy white quasi religious men run everything and there are no gays or trans, see how that works out for them. I say quasi religious because what the religious right is passing off as Christianity is not.

I'd love it if scgal (or someone else) could explain why men can do whatever the fuck they want with their bodies, while women can't. Why are men making ANY choices for women, reproductively speaking?
Why does a young woman who's made the decision NOT to ever have children get told 'no, we won't perform that surgery on you' because they think she'll change her mind? Does a young man face that same ridiculous bullshit? I mean.. not all women can use birth control due to side effects. Even if they can, it can fail. Condoms fail too. So it would seem like if that young woman knows she doesn't want kids, a medical "professional" should be taking care of her wishes instead of denying them based on their opinions/feelings.
Don't make choices for others based on those you would make for yourself. Everyone should have the same right to make their own decisions.

My wife was 19 weeks pregnant when we had an intrauterine demise. At that point, we could wait for her to go into labor. She would be at risk of chorioaminitis, which is a severe infection and could cause sepsis and death. Try to induce her and wait for her to deliver the dead fetus waiting for however long it takes, again with the risk of chorioamionitis, sepsis and death. Or we could have a D and E, a procedure that would avoid those complications and not prolong an already horrific situation. Only problem is that is a procedure that republicans want to outlaw because it is used in second trimester abortions. We had to wait for the hospital to find a physician who could do that procedure because few physicians do them because if the threats from the prolife movement. You are ok with causing needless pain, suffering, and possible death, all because you do not “agree” with the needs of abortion. And I suspect you call yourself a good person. Yeah, right

If I had been given the chance to choose, I would have had my tubes tied when I was in my 20s. Instead I have been on BC for 20 years, because I knew I never wanted children. Luckily, I have always had insurance that has made BC affordable.

An experience I wouldn’t wish on anybody. But it is unconscionable that pro-lifers refuse to accept the necessity of these interventions. People need to suffer because they believe that it is wrong. The procedure she needed is becoming unavailable as the physicians who know how to do it are retiring, and the younger physicians are not learning it. Some women will be harmed in the future because of this. But they do not care. Thanks for you concern. We eventually had our third child. Doesn’t take the pain away, but it did help lessen it

IMO overturning Roe v Wade is just a step, albeit an important one, in the quest of the pro- birthers. Next will be a federal law outlawing abortion. And when that happens this SC, shaped by McConnell's "let the voters determine the next SC justice" type of politics, will forget all about states' rights and hold the new law constitutionally sound.

Yeah, right A somewhat similar pregnancy loss, that did go septic, and did lead to death is pretty much why Ireland legalized abortion. Why are we going backwards? I saw a documentary about that - horrific. She laid there for days, going more and more septic, her organs gradually shutting down, waiting until the fetal heart beat stopped. By then, far too late to save her. Imagine how the husband felt - they didn’t know about the heart beat rule, and if she’d gone over to England for treatment instead of Ireland, she would have gotten a D and C when the miscarriage started, and she’d still be alive. This is why all the talk from conservatives about wanting to protect the health of women is pure bullshit. Fetal tissue in the process of being miscarried, with zero potential to survive, was more important than a living human.

What about fetuses with abnormalities incompatible with life (child's, mother's or both)? It's ok for the mother to maybe die carrying that pregnancy to term?
What if parents aren't financially (or emotionally) able to care for a severely handicapped child? Are the sanctimonious, righteous righties going to step up and care for them? HAHAHAHH no because it's only the pregnancy that matters, not the actual child once it's born.
And there's still the stupidity surrounding ectopic pregnancies. How can that be considered an abortion when there's ZERO chance of that pregnancy being viable?
I just can't wrap my head around the mentality that one sector of our population thinks it has the right to unilaterally make this type of decision for everyone. Who the F do they think they are?
