in other words, people like Trump for the same reason they like Super Glue. it doesn't actually fix anything, but it is easy to use, doesn't require any thought, and gives you the illusion that the broken shit is not really broken.
is that about it?

Hey! Super glue is vastly superior to Trump and I have fixed many things with it!😎

Believe it or not, my MIL and SIL think Trump is the best president we ever had. MIL thinks he was a business genius who saved the country.
I don’t understand that part myself.

I don’t understand that part myself. facts don't matter to this person. i would love to say he is the worst president and worst businessman ever, but my rational mind won't let me. i can only say he is AMONG the worst. i don't think your inlaws want a president. they want a dictator. if that is our standard, then yes, Trump was the best dictator in US history.

PS- i find that idea terrifying- that there is a SIGNIFICANT minority that wants that. but i have long ago come to terms with that. thus, the effort to move off this continent on my part.

DH is insisting if Trump wins again in 2024 he is moving to Canada. I don’t think he’d last a winter there. He was whining yesterday that it was so cold he had to put his long pants on (it was 66) and today mowed the yard in a long sleeve t shirt topped with a flannel shirt (it’s in the high 70’s). Maybe we become snow birds someplace else for the winter, and PEI in the summer. He’ll also have to make the move without me, at least initially, since I’m stuck working for a few more years.

It's based on the Fox "News" spin on what Trump "accomplished". I'm always amazed at the OMG issues my mom brings up (that originate on Fox) - I don't watch Fox, but do get news from multiple sources. So if she's surprising me with some off-the-wall nonsense, it must be unique to Fox. So I pay more attention to the nonsense I see on Twitter nowadays, to have a better idea of what nonsense Fox is disseminating in the guise of "news". The part I can't wrap my head around is why a large subset of otherwise rational people have decided to believe the crazy dished out by Fox, and reject the more rational alternatives from MSM. Because believing one means you must reject the other, as truth they are mutually exclusive. I suppose you could reject all of it, if you don't know what to believe anymore. But why suddenly switch to believing stark raving nonsense? It's like Fox is a mind altering drug.

It's like Fox is a mind altering drug. if you think America is great, exceptional, can do no wrong, and needs no changing, that puts you in quite a simple space. you can simply live out your perfect life. who you vote for doesn't matter, really, since we are infallible. you only need worry about the impact of your personal decisions. but, of course, there is one small problem. you can't listen to facts. because the facts are quite different from that position. so, that means cutting off all information that contradicts those facts, including relatives, etc. my ex-girlfriend used to say "no brain, no headache".
