Today the boy walks after 4-years in engineering school. No job lined up yet, but hopefully that will come soon. I need to trim my payroll, and getting him started down a career path will be the first step.
The next phase of life begins, I'm excited for him, but slightly more excited for me because I will have no more college tuition to pay for. Time for another mid-life sports car....😀

congrats to you. Sorry but this struck my funny bone. I have a friend whose son graduated with degree in chemical engineering with honors no less. One and 1/2 yr in work place he decided to get a law degree - his dad let him know that was on his own dime this time.

Congrats tractor. Some of my fraternity brothers, who also got engineering degrees, went back for masters in business or law. Drexel is a co-op school so we worked in engineering fields during school. I would have thought that would have helped them decide while an undergrad.

my son is in the midst of his engineering degree, and changing majors. woe is me. congrats to you. On the plus side, it's usually easier to switch from an engineering degree to something else than the other way around.

The hard sciences and engineering are great backgrounds for law degrees. Litigation and patent firms love them. A fairly high number of them take the patent bar.
But they have a bit of discomfort in the first semester or year of law school though. As was explained to me by two engineering-backgrounded law students, in engineering you have a problem, do the calculations, and come up with an answer. In law, the answer is often, "it depends."
One of the students went on to a successful career in patent prosecution. The other had a successful career in litigating engineering malpractice cases and expert witness-ing.
The end of the tuition payments is a joyous day! Congratulations.

He was hired at an obscene salary back in the 90's and has done really well for himself all these years later.

Congrats Tractor!! My son graduates from engineering (ECE) this Sunday. He interned at Amazon for the past 2 summers and they offered him a job. He starts on Aug 1st. I'm excited for him but like you, I'm looking forward to not having to finance his tuition and wants and needs anymore . I'm switching to Roth 401K from regular 401K based on some of the threads here which will probably eat up any savings.
