At least this man has family and people are looking for him. But what about those who live alone, no family to look out for them? Or the homeless? It reeks of putting out people like trash!
I hope they get slammed with a lawsuit and judgment so big that it will be much cheaper to do the right thing in the first place. Common decency sure is not cutting it here.

What is it with men and not reading instructions? Do they think the paper was dipped in the Novichok nerve agent that almost killed Navalny? Is it weaponized incompetence? You should have seen Simon trying to assemble my walker. Mom! I'm done, but there are a lot of parts left over!"

I went out to give the squirrels and birds fresh water. It hasn't rained in a while, and there are no puddles to drink from. I'm glad I did that before the trash panda come out. They wash everything before they eat it, and the water is disgusting afterwards.

Wi-fi is still effed up so I'll have to call ATT again tomorrow. Found a light proof fix for the burglar alarm pad so I can sleep tonight. DH napped this morning and I tried to nap this afternoon, but my body said no. I'm going to force myself to stay awake until 10 so maybe, just maybe, I can sleep through until 6.

You guys are gonna know so much you never wanted to know about KC real estate by the end of the summer. I already know too much. Not because of you but work related. The Elizabeth ave house looks nice from the pics and I like how they took took pics with and without furniture. The flooring is a little odd, but adding furniture and rugs would offset that. I LOVE the Bristow house (because finished basement!), except I did not see pics of the backyard except the area coming off the deck in which it looks very sloped. The front looks nice annd level but from the deck pics t looks like a serious slope. That backyard is non existent. It was all deck. I'm starting to figure things out as I go along though. The houses with no dimensions for the rooms or floorplans listed are tiny. I have alao been paying attention to price/listing activity. I saw one that looked nice, they've been trying to unload this house since 2020 so I passed. I'm looking at 4 houses in MO on Saturday. KS doesn’t have anything good right now.

Cat tree is complete. Brooks likes it. He isn't quite sure about the top level yet though. There seems to be a lot of hardware leftover. Since DH didn't count it and compare it to the list none of us knows if it is just extra or if he missed a few bolts somewhere. Also found out that Brooks does react to catnip. We also got an L shaped cardboard scratcher that DH is putting together right now. This time around DH did read the instructions first. Over the past week or two Brooks has developed the habit of scratching the door frames. Which I don't appreciate to begin with, but I really have a big problem with him doing it at 2 or 3 am and waking me up. With our other two cats I learned you can't stop them from scratching, so the best course of action is to try and find more preferable objects for them to scratch. Since Brooks seemed to have lost interest in his existing scratchy things, I am hoping these new things will do the trick. We will see how the next week goes. In the meantime, dinner is done. I did a whole roasted chicken and a salad. I made a raspberry vinaigrette for Father's Day and DH really liked it. There were enough ingredients left that I just tossed that same salad for tonight. DH likes salad kind of/sort of. He told me he really liked the salad and dressing on Sunday though so I'm totally going to make it as often as possible now.

There is a hospital in a town about halfway between our house, and the town my MIL lives in. That hospital definitely has a bad reputation. Example: I had a relative who needed surgery who got stuffed into one of their corner rooms, which had a total of 4 patients. That was shock #1, that they would have 4 people in one room. Then, the next shocker was that my relative was the only one of the 4 who survived their surgery, and got to go back home. The town my MIL lives in doesn't even send overflow patients to that hospital. Anyone needing additional help gets transported to the "big city".

An odd thing happened while I was at work today. I got a notification that a man was on our porch,. Mister was at home, but he was taking a nap, so I answered through the doorbell and asked if I could help him. I am getting good at that lol.
He asked if *first name, last name* Junior lived there. It was Mister’s name, but Mister is a Third, his Dad was Junior. I asked “who would like to know who lives here”. He looked like he was in his 60’s, and did not seem pleased that I asked that lol.
He explained that he had been Mister’s Dad’s barber for years and he was trying to relay some important information to Mister.
I told him “wait please”, and called Mister and told him who the man said he was. Mister went to the door, and the guy introduced himself and said he’d been his Dad’s barber.
He told Mister that someone from a certain insurance company had asked him if he knew how to get in touch with Muster’s Dad’s son, and he was trying to get the man’s information to Mister because he figured it was probably some “good” news. The insurance company happened to be the one that had reached a settlement with Mister’s parents from a car accident they were in, where the other driver was at fault. When we were leaving the cemetery after Mister’s Mom’s funeral, the insurance company called him to tell him that the settlement and him approved and they would be sending a check to his parents.
Anyway, the guy in the porch today asked Mister if he wanted him to call the insurance guy, and he did on speaker, and told him he was standing in front of Mister, then gave Mister the phone. He asked Mister if they had ever settled his Mom’s estate. Mister told him that he’d turned all of that over to his brother to handle, and he would have his brother call him. Mister was really just buying some time because he was caught off guard.
He was still half sleep. I have so many questions. How did that even become a conversation between the insurance guy and the barber? How did the barber know to come here? Most of Mister’s family don’t even know where we live. A web search would've shown a different address, since Mister is not a Jr. Why did the insurance guy not just call Mister, like he’s done before? The last time Mister spoke to him, last year, he told Mister the funds would have to go to an estate account, because it was in both his parents’ names, and his Mom had died.
Mister had gone through a huge ordeal trying to get that settled for his parents while his Mom was in the hospital this last time, because his Mom had to go to PT after the accident, and that claim still being open was a problem with getting her into rehab after she first got so sick.
Anyway, it was just weird to me for the barber to show up at our door, trying to put Mister in contact with the insurance guy.

That is weird, Pink. So many questions. Mister was in a deep sleep when I called him, so his brain was not firing on all cylinders yet when he opened the door. Otherwise, I’m pretty sure he would’ve asked more questions at the time. Because when we talked again a short time later, he had all the same questions I do. But he was fully awake by then lol.

Celebrating. DD got the job! She'll be working 30 hours/week for full time pay and benefits. She'll actually earn more than she did at the hospital. Despite the years-long gap in her resume, she's been allocated the seniority as a nurse with those years worked. It's a nice place, too. She says the staff all look unharried and comfortable. I think she'll be happy.

You might remember that DH and I missed a flight the weekend before last due to poor communication between the two of us. Now, we do not have appropriate clothing for a retirement event at the conference we’re on our way too due to poor communication between us. Fortunately, we’ve not driven past the outlet stores yet, so we will stop there to grab something. I seem to recall you wanting to leave early for the airport and him refusing. I don't think you need to take joint responsibility for that.

It's growing warm in our house with the 90s we've got. Our old house usually holds temps for a few days, so we got it cooled down as much as we could in advance by opening windows at night early this week. Still not bad downstairs. The lakes usually keep the area cooler, we tend to average only four 90 degree days per year. We are expected to get 4 just this week, and it's not even technically summer yet! Lots of houses like ours don't have AC. The library DOES have AC, so we are letting people know we are an informal cooling center. I put the letter board sign out front to catch passersby, and posted on FB where other community groups shared the message. Very kind of you. Does anyone ever come, to col off? Not sure if anyone comes just to cool off, but several people stopping in mentioned how nice it felt - we always encourage them to just hang out as long as they want. I do know one of our regulars said he wouldn't be in this week - he walks over, and it's a long walk.

Just got back from taking a walk around the neighborhood. I was fighting the wind almost the whole time trying for it not to toss my hat off. But a bit of walking was welcome.
Now onto figuring out what is for dinner.

If he knew the dad’s name he may or may not have known where the dad lived. With Mister having a similar name he could have figured anyone else having that name, not living at the dad’s address, might be the son. Not sure how common Mister/dad’s names are but if it led to a short list of results the barber could have decided it was worth it to try the address he found.

Not sure how common Mister/dad’s names are but if it led to a short list of results the barber could have decided it was worth it to try the address he found. They have the exact same name, except for the suffixes. Searching for Jr (Mister’s Dad) should bring up Mister’s Dad’s house, not ours. And if you picked the house that is the Third’s to go to, why still ask for Jr, and say that you were Senior’s barber for years. I know it could just not be paying attention to detail, I’m just explaining what got my attention. And why would the barber be tasked with even doing any of that, to try to track Mister down, even if he felt like he was doing a good deed, when the insurance people already have Mister’s phone number and spoke to him several times since fall of 2022, with his parents’ permission? Mister was the one they coordinated with to have people go to the hospital to have papers notarized with his parents’ signatures, he was the one they called while we were in the limo leaving the cemetery after burying his Mom, to say the settlement had been approved. And how did it go that any of it became a discussion between the insurance person and the barber? It’s a well known, large, nationwide company and ime when you deal with large corporations, you aren’t necessarily speaking with someone that is local to you. That is the first weird thing imo. How did Mister’s Dad’s name even come up with the barber in the first place, to lead to this? I know you don’t have any answers to my questions, ijs. I have no idea what it could really be about, I’m just sharing the reasons it seems weird to me.

I hadn't originally intended to bother with this month's Directors meeting, but decided maybe I need to step in (virtually) - to learn what I don't know I don't know. I literally got the group invite email minutes after big boss allowed me in the group, and it explicitly said all libraries invited. Good thing I joined the zoom early - G's name was saved on the app, and I haven't done a live webinar for a while, so I had to poke around a bit to swap my name in, mute, realize the video was actually on (G had put tape over the lens) instead of off like I wanted... When big boss did role call, he already noted my library was on, went on to call G/new library, and somebody else got all confused. Big boss said, yes, M library is here, teen is here, moving on. Then later happily greeted G in new role at new library, welcome to the family (um, huh?).

But why would the insurance guy contact the barber to start with? Does Mister's brother use that barber?

Pink Cashmere That situation is very strange, but keep in mind that creditors have their ways too. I once settled an old credit card debt to avoid interest. They then sold the interest debt to a third party. I knew I did not owe. Flash forward 10 years later. I had been married 5 years at that point. That third party called my ILs looking for me and attempting to collect a debt that we not owed.

That is super sketchy. Did Mister get the insurance person's information? Don't let him give them any person information. Have him get a claim number and then he needs to Google the insurance company's 800 number and call them independent from all of these people. I'm betting it's a scam. Of all the people that the insurance company would call, someone's barber would not be one. How would they know it even was his barber? It's way too weird. My nephew had a car accident and the next day a doctor's office called him to make an appointment. My dad called me and I told them not to talk to anyone. We called the insurance company and they said they don't do that, especially when nobody was hurt. People can find out things about you and make stuff up. It's usually somewhat convincing. The fact that this isn't makes it even more wild.

People will troll obits and funeral web pages to scam people it's a whole industry.
100% agree with Andi. I would pass the warning to his brother too now that Mister said it's brother handling the estate.
I wouldn't be shocked if the "barber" shows up at brother's house with the same story.

First world problems. Been out to eat all 3 nights this week. Monday and tonight at high end places with work groups (paid by work). Tuesday was outback with husband using my birthday gift card. So 3 big meals and only had to pay tip on outback meal as it was over the gift card amount. While wallet is in good shape the scale may be not so happy.

In other news, the reason I was tossing and turning last night before the damn bug was on my pillow, was because I had monkey brain about the counseling session Mister and I had yesterday.
I am very capable of saying something in the moment to react to something that irritates me, or just say whatever I think, and let it come out however, without a filter. But I learned years ago that just saying whatever pops into my head, however it comes out, is not always the best idea.
So while I got some good information from our session yesterday, and learned some things, I had to focus more on trying to learn, than saying what I wanted to say. Because I didn’t and still don’t think, that arguing with our counselor would’ve been a good use of the time.
And last night, thinking about the session, I actually got angry about some things, which is why I had monkey brain.
I did get ornery about one thing during the session, which was actually the least of the issues. She asked us how we would handle it if we had to do a project with someone that could only operate on the intellectual level of a 5th grader. I answered first, and said I would have them do the tasks related to the project, that they are capable of doing.
After Mister answered, when she first started trying to make her point, she kept saying that I’d said I’d give that person the “easy” tasks. I kept correcting her and saying that I did not say “easy”. Because in my mind, even a 5th grader can do things that are easy for them, but not for me. Like figure out how to use a new phone, or run around like a maniac for a few hours without feeling like a truck ran over them. I’m not exactly a dummy, but a fifth grader probably understands this “new math” shit, and I still don’t, regardless of how many hours I spent trying to learn it, to try to help DS with his math homework. A fifth grader that understands new math, can get the same correct answer (result) that I can, even if our steps are different. I think new math is more complicated than math has to be and I don’t even really like math period, in the first place, but if the different methods get the same correct answers, whatever. So to me, saying what they were capable of, was an important distinction I’d made and believe, over saying “easy”.
Which ultimately mattered with the point she was trying to make herself, but she seemed to get a little irritated that I kept saying “I did not say ‘easy’” when she kept using that word as if I’d said it, and I kept correcting her about what I’d actually said. Not irritated enough to be a big deal, but enough that I noticed, since I’m not quite as dumb and clueless as I might seem to be.
So after that, I just didn’t object to anything else.
Now I feel like I am expected to listen to and try to understand what everybody else is saying to me, and turn myself inside out trying to understand all of that, but nobody is really listening to me and trying to understand me and what I’m saying.
And I am angry again.
