But I also thought a lot about Mister and how he is letting his job take over his life. I believe that there is more to that than what it appears to be on the surface but that is a whole ‘nother subject. But thinking about that, made me think about how there are probably a lot of men also that do come home with empty glasses because of the pressure they feel to be the provider for their family, and what they deal with and go through on a daily basis, to make sure they fulfill that role. So I don’t really think it’s gender specific, even though generally speaking it can work (negatively) in different ways for men vs women. I’m not sure I’m making sense, so I will hush now lol. As long as Mr. can undo the habits of letting his job take over, he'll be OK. I needed my job as an escape, after Dad died and I was dealing with cancer. I needed that place where I could excel. I need interaction with adults, other than the medical types that were treating me. The trick is I didn't see how I needed to change that until v1 of being reprimanded. I will say, now that I put my dayjob back in it's box, and I mostly adhere to the new culture, I also don't like who I am at work anymore. I'm not helpful. I don't care. I can't be authentic. (Which, amusingly enough is one of our guiding principles of workplace-to have an environment where folks can be authentic.) I've joined the fray to ignore the problems we should be tackling. I can smile sweetly and be polite. That's what's valued.

I just watered the most vulnerable things in my garden before I head out to work. The forecast is for 107 today. I really need the new trees to grow faster.

Congratulations on all of the positive changes that are occurring in your life right now Ava . You've had such a bumpy road to travel for so long, you really deserved this turn of events and finally some peace and happiness. When you have time, PLEASE post a picture (or two, or three, etc.) of Tina, and if possible, a shot of Tina and Michi together. Sounds like they are bonded already, which is great, and hopefully, she turns out to be what you were looking for. Will post in a few minutes.

I saw in there if someone gets pregnant they have to leave in a year. Guess what else, so far the ones I have seen are all lily white. How do they get by with that? They gave us a phone list out here where we live and one tenant has a live in caregiver. You know the PNW is 85% white, right? Your post sent me down a really educational rabbit hole. I found a chart on Wiki that gives the ethnic breakdown of each state from the 2020 census. As a resident of Texas all my adult life and of Houston for 33 years, I hadn't given diversity much thought and it was interesting how different one state is from another. Somehow, I thought there might be more Asians in the PNW than there are. We don't plan to move but if we did, I certainly would look at the demographics of our target area.

I've taken today off. Tomorrow is my last day at current job. I am going to the office but only to return the equipment, clear my desk and turn in my badge. Everything I could finish is already done.
I had a meeting with manager yesterday to update him on where I was on everything, so they can take over. At the end of the meeting he, his manager and new supervisor wished me the best, said reach out if you need anything, we'll give you excellent references if you need them, etc. I feel I was being BSd by them. They couldn't wait to get rid of me.
Today I filled out the exit survey and I was very honest. I wrote that the reason I'm leaving is because direct managers are hostile and there were events of bullying. Sorry, buddy, you trying to be nice the last day doesn't compensate for all I've been through the last 2 years.
So today I'm paying bills and cleaning the house. My mom arrives Sunday. I have a week off before I start the new job. There's going to be a heat wave. So we'll be at the beach every day.
Today I'm going to the lake to swim in the afternoon.
I've been reading the benefits for the new job. I'm disappointed. They aren't nearly as good as current job. I keep telling myself my mental health is worth way more than any benefit current employer could ever provide.
I read reviews in Glassdoor and Indeed. Looks like the company work environment is good, but it's a small company and raises are minimal, chances of promotion nonexistent. At this point, I don't care. I've been through hell with current job. I don't care about promotions anymore. New company gave me 15% salary increase, so I also don't care if raises going forward are really small.
My plan is to leave CT in 8 years to move to Southern Florida. I hope this job is good and I can stay with them for the next 8 years. You're supposed to change jobs and companies every now and then to maximize income, but I'm not playing that game. I love to work at a place where I feel appreciated and be part of a team. I sincerely hope this is my last job here in CT.
I've been so stressed, unhappy and mistreated at current job, that my perspective and expectations have really changed. I need a place where I'm treated well so I can heal and rebuild confidence in myself. The new company seems to be the right place for me at this moment.

So adorable Ava! Good luck with the new job, and agreed on mental health…you’ve been miserable for a long time there.

Last day of elementary school today, complete with last minute check written to cover lost school library books Father’s Day looming (presents bought but not wrapped), driveway currently unusable bc they are replacing it Chipping away at the post-party to do list (figuring out who left or loaned what and returning to rightful owners, washed the guest sheets but haven’t remade the bed). Hopefully-final vet appt tomorrow, DH chose the stay home with kid option so I’ll take PP over…which reminds me I haven’t given him his morning dose yet. I swear it’s like a video game shooting down to-do items as they ambush you.

I just watered the most vulnerable things in my garden before I head out to work. The forecast is for 107 today. I really need the new trees to grow faster. I got up a little early, saw a post from a friend that it was going to be 87 today and decided to wear white pants. When I got out of my car this am, I grabbed an empty can from the door of my car and threw it on the top of my lunch bag. Well, the empty can fell out of the bag, and the leftover soda in the can spilled on my white pants. Luckily, I had a pair of jeans in my car, so I changed my pants right away. I did not water my plants, hopefully they will make it till we get home tonight, but 87 is a far cry from 107 - I don't know how plants or human survive that kind of heat. I don't generally wear jeans other than on a Friday, but we do not have any kind of dress code. People even wear shorts when it gets real hot here. DH told me an adjuster is coming to look at our roof (for hail damage) on Saturday. I originally had Friday Scheduled off, but I changed it to Monday, now I wish I could clean on Friday. I loaded my dishwasher this am, but the clutter is out of control in my kitchen, and my Dining room table has a bunch of paperwork on it. I was going to create an office on the 1st floor but DD has 2 and a half rooms in my house crammed full of stuff. I need to talk to DH or DS. DH has a really hard time getting rid of stuff, so he is not the best to ask to take stuff to Habitat or the city (word that Rymes with hump that starts with T that is not allowed). DD's old headboard is in my spare bedroom b/c DH could not part with it. She also left her headboard and mattress in her room, so I don't have any need for the other one. There is also a table and chairs in there. I can use in my basement, but DH has to agree to remove something else in order to make that happen.

Temps are expected to be over 100°F here today, as well. That's too hot for comfort, IMO.
I'm sweltering already, just thinking about it!

Walgreens refill asked if I wanted free delivery so I said heck yeah. Um, a door dash lady delivered my meds...that doesn't seem like a great idea.

Ava It warms my heart to see your babies snuggling together in obvious happiness. You hit the nail on the head about your emotional wellbeing far more important than dollars and cents. I hope you find your new work satisfying and not soul-sucking like the old place.

I need another day off. I have so many people needing things ASAP that I'm about to snap. But is the day off worth all the catching up I'd have to do after? Probably not.

I love black cats, and this is the first time I don’t have one.

Right? The cleaner I hired also tidies, which basically entails putting everything in a pile or shoving it in a drawer…but there was an order to the mess and now I have to re-sort it out to find things. I specifically asked her not to throw things away, bc she probably wouldn’t recognize what’s meaningful or not to us. It doesn’t take much bandwidth to just throw stuff away but that’s so wasteful. Disposing of things mindfully takes a lot of sorting, decisions, and action. I have a bunch of bags waiting for me to arrange someone to pick up, but I also want to write the inventory on the side of each a. to make it easier on whatever charity and b. so I have a record if/when I want to deduct on taxes. S ide note: I have two ten+ year old breast pumps with accoutrements and you can’t find a place to take them and I don’t want to clog up the landfills with functional and sterilizable stuff like that So they sit as clutter in the closet. Can you donate to a women’s shelter? I previously googled for places that accept them and the pickings are fairly slim-none of the DV shelters I found listed them or anything similar. Maybe at some point I’ll have it sufficiently together to contact the one place that was listed as maybe-sometimes accepting them. Thanks for the suggestion!

It's supposed to get hot here this weekend too, with thunderstorms thown in periodically for funsies. Carrot heads out on his first of multiple marching band tours tomorrow morning and has 4 parades in 3 days, one of which I have to work at. I hope the weather is good for at least the time they're marching.

Can you donate to a women’s shelter? I tried to donate a full, unopened package of nursing pads to a battered women's shelter here, and they didn't want them. I mean, they were brand new, and still wrapped in plastic. WTE? I figure because this particular shelter is run by a man (I still haven't figured that one out), he was probably clueless about what a woman with kids might be needing. Women’s shelters are often very short on space. I’ve seen them request no more clothing to be donated unless it’s new underwear. if you still have them, I suggest a Crisis Pregnancy Center or Facebook Buy Nothing group.

I love the kitties and looks like they will get along well. Having a young one looks like it will work well. The older one can still be dominant so no fighting for position. They look like they are going to be inseparable. I love cats too and can't imagine life without them. And yours are beautiful.

Thanks, everyone. Tina is the burst of happiness, good vibes, energy that Michi and me needed. She gets along great with him, and he's like his dad. He's protective of her, and very tolerant of her antics. He even lets her eat from his plate. When I read her description, I knew she'll be right for us. She was born from a stray mom who was rescued just before giving birth. Tina was born in a home, with a lovely foster mom who has a big cat of her own (big like Michi but orange instead of tuxedo). She was used to a big older cat when she arrived home. Tina was not afraid of Michi. There was some swatting and hissing the first few hours, but by next day they were friends. It's been a very positive change in our lives. I agree with The Walk of the Penguin Mich. Money is not everything. Current job was playing a number with my mental, emotional and physical health. The best thing I could do was to get out of there. I feel so relieved already, and I can feel the constant stress washing away. I was honest in my exit review. I know it may mean not getting a reference if I need one in the future, but I had to be honest. HR is clueless. The department is becoming a revolving door of employees leaving, and they do nothing. As for the kittens. Same thing as for changing jobs. Money isn't everything. It's more expensive to have two cats, and boarding is going to cost me a lot in December when I travel. But the happiness this kitten is bringing to Michi and me is priceless.

Well every single job I have applied for to date is a bust.
I think I might lick my wounds for a bit I am going nuts trying to look every day for postings. Maybe go weekly/biweekly on weekends to see what popped up unless things get even worse down here.
We'll see they are probably thinking I am suitably humbled and humiliated right now and leave me alone for awhile. I just need to keep my head down and pretend I know my place.
