sanity check, please - if my tree grows up and over the property line, the other side may trim back as they see fit at their expense, if need be. yes? healthy tree at zero risk of falling over any time soon. Yes in most jurisdictions I'm aware of. In Texas there is a caveat that, if their trimming cause death or substantial damage to the tree, they may be liable for cost of replacement. thanks. at this point, my question is coming from a place of, this guy planted a bunch of flowers up against the fence and he's irritated that the tree is shading them. he's asked me to trim (I have no problems with this, BTW) and when my landscaper ended up in the ER last weekend and didn't show, he came by yesterday to ask me about it. he then suggested he call his tree guy, in a tone that said he expected me to pay for it. that's the line in the sand I'm all set with. if YOU want it trimmed, YOU can pay for it. my tree is healthy and robust, and it was there long before you planted your damn flowers.

In my area they are also only allowed to trim the tree up to property line.

Getting a little stressed by my lawn mower situation...as my lawn just kind of keeps growing while I'm trying to find a solution. Ideally I'd get the one I have repaired, but the small engine repair guy is booked up until mid-July. Have emails out to several dealerships trying to find a replacement deck, but it's not going well. If I wasn't desperate, they'd be all over Facebook Marketplace.

I give them my landline which I haven't bothered to fix the connection in years. It's cheaper to bundle our internet and landline for $85 a month so I figured why not. It's become my throwaway. The only let the doctor's office and dental office text me. Both are pretty good about not texting more than 48 hours before the appointment and if I hit "Y" to confirm it stops. What is driving me nuts are the political texts. It's like trying to slay the hydra. Every time I block one five more pop up in its place. We set up a white list on our landline. These are people who we want to call. We keep the landline exactly for this purpose, and to call Canada and overseas and its peanuts. TD set up the white list before the last election. The phone was going nuts, and it was all election calls. The white list we took from both our cell phones, plus a few others. It rolls immediately to voicemail. If someone is important, they can leave a message. Otherwise, not. It does help to keep those calls off our cells.

We sold my great uncle's house as is. There wasn't anything wrong with the house structurally it just hadn't been updated since the late 70s. I am not exaggerating the house was so unchanged that when I walked in for the first time in decades I had a panic attack because it was like walking back in time to Christmas when I was a kid. I expected to see my great grandmother's giant oxygen tank in the office. My dad wasn't going to invest large amounts of time and his own money (GU had none) for house that we weren't going to see a single penny of. My grandmother's house my dad did a bit more work on because he got half the proceeds but not nearly as much as he would have for a house we got 100% of the profits from. Plus we were on major time crunches for both houses because Medicaid and the nursing home wanted the $$$. We weren't going to risk being taken to court as we spent time doing all the things the realtor listed out would make the homes more attractive. Grandma's house went to someone who flipped it. GUs ended up going to a flipper as well. Just commenting because there are reasons a house could be going "as is" that aren't sinister or hiding something. I really wish my mom and her sisters sold my grandmom's house as is so she can finally be done with this chapter of her life. Mom put 13 months of her life on hold caretaking for her mom because all of her siblings refused to put her in a home. Mom is now inches shorter than me (she used to be taller) and I know all that lifting grandmom up and putting her down exacerbated the aging process for my 71-year-old mom. Alas, my one aunt is living in the house and doing some cosmetic work so they can get more money for it (the bones are great and it really doesn't need much work - new paint, rip up the carpet to expose the original hardwood). Another aunt paid the PA estate tax that was due so my aunt won't be homeless. I say fuck them all. They screwed over my mom and she continues to come down weekly to help my aunt with a house that should have been sold as is months ago. A house in that neighborhood that was listed as is to flipper (it was gross inside) sold for $375,000. So they're banking on getting over $400k. The house is starting to stink like dog, so they're gonna get what they deserve for waiting.

I agree, and it has pretty much made me question if I want to donate to political causes anymore. I did just donate to President Biden for the chance to win tickets to see Jimmy Kimmel interview Biden and Obama. That was the first time I have donated to a politician in a long time. Daily having to go into Mom's e-mail and delete the multitude of texts from politicians asking for donations and whatever their hook is, it is invariably misleading. If you ask them to stop or block them, the next e-mail comes from a different e-mail addy. What they are doing should not be legal. They are the biggest con artists out there imho. I plan to open a new e-mail and leave the existing one for throwaway e-mails. The legit texts I need to see are far and few between, most of it is just junk.

I crapped out last night around 9. I knew it was going to be an early night.
We did have a bit of excitement landing in Seattle. The pilot came in for a landing, and we were getting tossed about by the wind. We had barely touched down, and the next thing I knew we were taking off. Too much speed and wind, so flew around another 15 min and tried it later.
Picked up Harriet on our way home, she was happy to see us. So was Sheldon, my neighbor looked in on him for the few days we were gone. I think she’d like a cat, just not one full time so I just share Sheldon and it gives her a cat fix.
We stopped and picked up a pizza for dinner last night on the way home. I do need to hit the grocery store today, but have lunch plans so it will have to be after.

Yes, but if a branch falls off of your tree, even in a storm, and damages a house or car it could come back on your homeowner's.

bingo, this is exactly it. thanks, this will pretty much be my answer if he tries to ask me to pay his tree guy. Did you look for his picture by the word "entitlement"? well, I was able to honor his request for a few branches that were close to some power lines on his house. my dad climbed a ladder and used a pair of long-handled snippers. this is well outside that scope, and wouldn't be something he or I would be attempting even if I'd let him on a ladder yet or if I could right now. so yah, this one's on the neighbor. thanks all for the sanity check!

I sent a couple of pictures to chiver to post for me when she gets a chance. One has the first tester of the cat house. Bretta has NO idea what to do. Thanks! I can't wait! Is it big enough for you to walk into it? It is big enough for me as well. I already have a chair in there so I can sit when a cat is in there. I do need to put a latch on the inside. The one that came with it was friggin useless.

I think this is the one that had four bedrooms that weren't technically bedrooms. I forgot the wording that they used for it. Non-functional bedroom, maybe. Another house Andi posted had non-functional bedrooms as well. To me that is weird, to have a bedroom or several that aren't actual bedrooms.

But at my age I start to doubt myself. I let y’all confirm that I’m not loosing it! I was wondering why andi9899 would need seven bedrooms unless one each for her, each dog, T1, T2 and anyone left over from parties maybe?

Like here, basement ones have to have egress windows over a certain size, they have to be at least 70 square feet, and they have to have a closet.

Maybe the non-conforming bedrooms is why it's being sold "as is". The inspector could find that the bedrooms aren't really bedrooms officially.
