I think it's great. As a capitalist, I hope he makes money. And if he doesn't, he can take the loss on his taxes. That's how capitalism works. I've never looked at Twitter or have a account.
From what I've heard it was just a bunch of liberals trying to cancel out the conservative voice. And hmmm...I don't recall much moaning and hand wringing when Jeff Bezos bought that NY newspaper.
Twitter is international. And Musk may not be able to make Twitter as "free speech" as he wants to. If he wants to keep the international consumers he will need to keep twitter working within the constraints of those international rules/laws/regulations/etc. I can see if he wants to make an American Twitter version that's only available within the US... but then I'm guessing he will need to make other versions of it to comply with other country's guidelines. For example: think about how great it will be when the Taliban can have and control the content of it's own Twitter available only to people in the country/areas it controls. Maybe Evangelical Christians need their own Twitter platform - so they can control what their users see on their twitter feeds. Don't know. What happens when a social media platform is left to it's own devises to 'police' it's content? What happens when the trolls and bullies and loudest voices cause people to leave until only the trolls and bullies and loudest voices are left? I'm pretty sure Musk is gonna want to keep people using Twitter and keep growing it's followers. Which means there will be some limits on what kinds of behaviors are appropriate to the platform.

Which means there will be some limits on what kinds of behaviors are appropriate to the platform. his whole takeover is built on some weird mix of personal and political outrage. and it is incredibly hypocritical. his refusal to police the indiscretions at Tesla has led to several lawsuits resulting in payments of millions. and let's not even get into worker rights. he seriously does NOT believe in them. he is clearly a person that puts freedom above these concerns. and that is great. if you are a person who has never suffered inequity.

Back at ya. Don't you find it sad and pathetic that some people believe that liberal voices can only exist if they are lying? People who lie deserve canceling on social media. If most of current conservative thought can't make their opinions known without lying perhaps they should look in the mirror instead of whining about being "canceled". I am tired of the lies about the 2020 election among other things. Those independent and liberal users that lie should be removed too. Back at ya. The Hunter Biden laptop story was not a lie. Neither was the Wuhan lab leak theory. But mentioning either one of those things would get you banned up until recently. Meanwhile, you libs have been free to spread lies about things like the Covington kids, Jesse Smollett , and any number of things with no consequences., And Isis ayatollahs in Iran can call for genocide with no repercussions.

Even if all of those things were in fact as bad as conservatives claim, they would not rank in the top 100 of evils committed by just the Trump family. Add in all of the other things by his supporters and it's even worse. Democrats may lie on occasion. Republicans lie as the essential component of their plan. EVERY single plan. If we could eliminate those in Congress who put themselves and their party over their responsibility and duty to America and the American people, the number of Republicans would drop from 260-something to about eight.

The lab leak theory has been refuted repeatedly. The virus came from nature, and the food market was likely the source of the infection. So yes, that is a lie And who cares about hunter bidrn. He is a private citizen. He can be dealt with in that manner. Unlike the trump children, who were part of the administration. When you care about about their malfeasance, then we can worry about hunter bidrn

Some list in the second paragraph. Jesse Smokey is a private citizen. He was prosecuted. You think the Covington kids were guiltless? And what should we do about the ayatollah? Funny how you didn’t include trump giving the Saudi’s a pass on murder if a journalist. Guess it is ok for republicans to do nothing in the middle east

Who the heck are the Covington kids? I have a hard time caring about Hunter Biden's laptop. If its proven he has done something wrong he can be prosecuted. I'm not going Ooooh over that laptop anymore than I cared about alleged golden showers. What the heck does Iran have to do with this?

Jesse Smollet is a fucking cretin, and deserves the worst of everything as far as THIS liberal is concerned. i have no idea who the Covington Kids are. i don't think anyone doubted that Hunter Biden had a laptop. the real question is whether there is anything criminal about it's contents. i think that is an undecided matter at this point. but no matter what is decided, i am not sure whether or not it is any reflection on his dad. i don't know how anyone could possibly conclude that at this juncture. as far as that story, and the Wuhan leak, there were so many tangential rumors that came off both of them (such as the implication that China did it intentionally, or that it was part of a biological warfare campaign) are wholly unsubstantiated. so when you talk about these two topics, you can't just say "this and that were not a lie", you have to be way more specific. parts of ALL of these stories were lies. and yes, both left and right media reported on them. i am so sick of whataboutism i want to throw up in my mouth.

The "Covington kids" were the students from Covington Catholic High School in Kentucky who had taken a "field trip" to the March for Life three years ago and ended up in a confrontation with other demonstrators and the Native American activist.

OK. I don't remember much about that story. I do think I avoided it after I didn't see much evidence one way or the other.

i didn't pay much attention to it, either. it was long forgotten before today, imo.
edit: i didn't pay much attention to the Jesse Smollet thing either, until he was outed. so, i really don't feel any shame for having been dragged into the ruse to begin with, because i wasn't.

i just spent a bit of time looking into the Hunter Biden Laptop Controversy. first of all, the origins of the laptop are murky. since Biden claims it was "possibly stolen", we should entertain that possibility. furthermore, the vast majority of the contents of the laptop have never been authenticated. further, it has been shown that it is "fairly easy" to entangle persons in controversy by embedding REAL emails in a sea of false ones. until it has been determined WHERE THE LAPTOP CAME FROM, i see no reason to treat it as if it were "real" in the sense that Trump and others wish us to believe. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hunter_Biden_laptop_controversy

this might seem pleasing enough to most people, but i find this quote quite disturbing: "This is not a way to make money," Musk said. "My strong intuitive sense is that having a public platform that is maximally trusted and broadly inclusive is extremely important to the future of civilization." 1) this is a public corporation. if you are not in it to make money, you should not be running it. sorry, but this level of "idealism" is absolutely wrongheaded in terms of business. this is an inversion of good capitalism. 2) the platform is already maximally trusted. by taking over and allowing racists, homophobes, and bigots to post on it, you will drive away free speech. i think #2 is a serious problem on the right. what they call "inclusivitity" is speech that vilifies and diminishes the contributions of others. it has no place in public discourse at all. and since Twitter is a private entity, they can ENFORCE that. what Musk is proposing- this "hands off" approach- will DECREASE open discourse by exposing people to an environment which is full of abuse and hatred. free speech advocates don't owe anything to hatred or incitement. it is not protected by the first amendment. nor should it be. By no allowing racists, homophobes and bigots to post free speech is already taken away.

Free speech is not absolute. Otherwise ther wouldn’t be libel laws, and you could yell fire in a crowded theater. Where to draw the line has always been the question
The first amendment applies to the government. Private companies have always been allowed to censor speech. Conservatives appear to be confused about the constitution. If you bad mouthed your company, they are allowed to fire you, that is not a violation of the first amendment

Such as twitter accepting the 43B. Now Musk can do what he wants

The problem with tolerance is who is allow saying what is tolerant and what is not. It may be the liberals ethical obligation but who the hell are the liberals to say what is tolerant any more than a conservative? Bullshit is bullshit no matter who is peddling it there are several misunderstandings present in this reply. first of all, i don't speak for conservatives, since i am not one. i speak for liberals because i am one. second, the primary obligation and focus of liberals is to increase liberty. that is definitional. third, it is very easy to discern what is intolerant. one simply ask the person whether they tolerate "X" or not. in the case of the racist and the bigot, it is quite clear that they do NOT tolerate "X". therefore, they are OPPOSED to tolerance. if you are an advocate of tolerance (or any other ethical position), you are obligated to NOT tolerate those who oppose your position. it is the ONE thing the tolerant should NOT tolerate. fortunately, those that are intolerant are generally quite open about their intolerance.

Racists can tweet if they can find other things to tweet about other than racist comments. Is anyone losing sleep over the fact that pedophiles are not allowed to solicit or post pics of sexualized children? Free speech was intended to insure citizens could always criticize the government unlike some countries. It was not intended to allow people to bully and threaten each other without limit.

actually, i didn't quite state it perfectly insofar as identifying intolerance. you can't expect an honest reply from the intolerant. but you can OBSERVE by their behavior and speech whether they are intolerant.
in any case, i don't consider it a large problem to identify intolerance through evidence. the only kind of intolerance worth addressing is the kind that is highly visible.

i just spent a bit of time looking into the Hunter Biden Laptop Controversy. first of all, the origins of the laptop are murky. since Biden claims it was "possibly stolen", we should entertain that possibility. furthermore, the vast majority of the contents of the laptop have never been authenticated. further, it has been shown that it is "fairly easy" to entangle persons in controversy by embedding REAL emails in a sea of false ones. until it has been determined WHERE THE LAPTOP CAME FROM, i see no reason to treat it as if it were "real" in the sense that Trump and others wish us to believe. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hunter_Biden_laptop_controversyYeah some laptop repair shop claimed it was abandoned at his shop and then somehow Giuliani got hold of it. That’s like finding a bloody glove at a murder scene and giving it to the local mob boss who then turned it into the cops. Questionable provenance. Then there are the leaps that the conspiracy minded righties have taken with it. It’s Hunters and therefore Joe is involved in corruption with him. Joe is pushing for 33 million in add for the Ukraine because they are blackmailing him with more stuff about Hunter. I say we start some baseless conspiracies ourselves. A whistleblower in the feds investigation of Trump has been found dead in LA a year after he went missing. He was the son of a high ranking bank employee who killed himself. After his death his son found scores of documents related to the bank’s relationship with Trump. So, with zero evidence to support this, let’s say Don Jr hired some Proud Boys to murder this guy to keep him quiet about all the money laundering Trump did with the Russians. Dons crazy girlfriend lured the guy to a hotel room for sex and Don, an avid hunter, jumped out of a closet and fired five shots at him with a tiger rifle, then he and his girlfriend did coke next to the corpse. I think I like making these baseless conspiracies. How could prove me wrong? The lame stream media? Right wing snowflakes?
