Ask your son what the state income and property taxs are there. No way you move there. There is no state income tax in Washington. Property taxes are considered high, but valuations are high here too, so the ratio of tax as compared to value is not nearly as bad as some other states. Much of the property tax revenue goes toward schools, which is another reason why education is better than in red states that don't spend much money on schools. BOOM. i just got through suggesting that another poster should check their assumptions. i will do the same, here.

What is so racist about wanting secure borders. Don't you lock your doors at home to keep yourself safe at night when you sleep?
i do. but honestly, i am not sure why. i have never had my house broken into, whether i was asleep, awake, there or not there. probably just paranoia. and the fact that law enforcement won't respond if i don't do the bare minimum. but you are making a false comparison. first of all, you can be of the opinion that our borders are secure enough as they are. if you are of that opinion, then YES, the effort to "secure our borders" is racist, because it implies something that is not true. a great deal of GOP rhetoric is like this. and i think it is really good to analyze where these opinions emanate from. consider this: the growth under Obama's last three years, both economic and jobs growth, was HIGHER than that under Trump's first three years. how many Trump supporters believe that? any? i have pointed out that the rate of migration into the US has been declining for 25 years. do you believe it? it doesn't seem like it, because you keep waving around this border crisis meme as if it were real. it isn't. i would suggest you question favored truths, rip. my life completely changed when i did that in 2003. i had been operating under the exceptionalism position prior to that. in early 2003, i sensed that the public rhetoric about the Iraq War was wrong. the UN inspectors had found no WMD. in December 2002 they were given license to visit previously unvsiited facilities. their work would have been done by the fall of 2003. rather than waiting for that report to be completed, the US barged into Iraq, which had little or no connection to 911, and killed 50000 children. public opinion of this war and of Bush was sky high because of this. i really started to distrust the media, the government, and the propaganda machine after that. YOU SHOULD, TOO. Well DJ, you must live in a gated community or in a rural farm area. My house and garage have been robbed twice and my neighbors also over the years. Shootings and gunfire are common now in my area and homeless camps all around. I don't know about your city but we're understaffed on police now due to city defunding of police. Over 100 officers quit or retired since last year. Unless you just don't watch the news, how can you say the southern border is not secure?? I see news stories all the time on the Biden friendly ABC, CBS, NBC and CNN networks showing the flood of people entering the US illegally and getting processed. And just a FYI, I also was against the Iraq war. Stupid and illegal invasion.

And just a FYI, I also was against the Iraq war. Stupid and illegal invasion. not that it is any of your business, but i live in a suburb of one of the highest crime areas in California. you seem to be connecting this "border crisis" with a surge in crime. do you have any evidence to back that up? as to your question: you are making the accusation about the borders being insecure. it is up to you to back that assertion up with statistics. i have backed up my claim with statistics, rip. the mainstream media are a bunch of ambulance chasers. if it bleeds, it leads. the border surge is straining resources, but it is NOT increasing migration into the US. so, i guess you have to decide for yourself if this "crisis" means anything or not. i don't think it does. but if you DO, answer me this: given the fact that NET MIGRATION CONTINUES TO DECLINE, HOW does this "crisis" impact the US?

And it is all just bull anyway. You can't tell me that if our leaders wanted this solved, they could come together and fix it. They don't want to, either party.
We have a large trailer manufacturer in Texarkanna who will call ever so often to let us know they are going to be closed for a few days. A raid is going to be conducted for illegals and wink/wink, they just happen to know about it in advance, so the workers stay home.
So LOL on your TX gov stunt, he's playing the base for the fools they are, they all do. LOL

The nonsense about the border just gets worse. Look at the mess Abbott is causing. Rotting fruits and vegetables, worsening supply chains, miles long backups, just so he can look tough. How many violations has he found? How much is it costing?

They tried putting "red necks" in the field here...parolees. It didn't work. They couldn't take the heat nor the hard work. Some lasted for a full day but most quit before that! Most of our jails/prisons are air conditioned, we have become a country of spoiled people used to our creature comforts. The immigration problem on the southern border will never be solved until.....they start putting the CEOs in prison for allowing them to be hired in their plants, factories, industry! They don't need to deport anyone, all they need to do is arrest those who hire them. Illegal immigration will dry faster than you can whistle Dixie!

Also...addressing the title of the thread...let's not forget that Abbott was using Tx. taxpayer $$$ to do this. This is a campaign stunt & his campaign should reimburse the people of Tx. for the costs of sending these buses to DC.
How dumb do the residents of Tx. have to be to keep allowing him to pull stunts like this along with holding up trucks delivering all kinds of things to our markets? His holding those up will only cause OUR costs to go up. OUR means us, the consumer!

All I'm saying is this there is a jump in migrants jumping the border. Are you talking legal Net migration decline?? You can't deny the uptick in border crossing. This is the DHS figures. And these are just the ones they encountered and processed. How many did they not catch??
These are just a few of the hundreds of stories out there. I don't think I'm fanning any right wing redneck slant. Just read/watch the news. And yes, both parties are very much to blame. They could fix it but they won't.

We live rural too, never had a break in here. We have a murder once in awhile and some never get solved. And an occasional shooting which are domestic violence.
It's not that unsafe around here. I do lock the doors at night, partly it seals the gaskets in the doors and keeps us from losing heat or cooling.
We don't even bring the keys in but the vehicles are in garages so would have to make noise getting them out, we would hear that.

Illegal immigration will dry faster than you can whistle Dixie! agree completely. of course, as soon as that happens, we will allow guest worker programs again. which is as it should be. WE NEED THEIR LABOR. there was a similar program for picking lettuce in one of the Carolinas. they had 100 openings. only 20 white folks showed up, and only ONE lasted the first day.

Net migration is the number of immigrants minus the number of emigrants, including citizens and noncitizens, for the five-year period. Net migration is the net total of migrants during the period, that is, the total number of immigrants less the annual number of emigrants, including both citizens and noncitizens. net migration includes both citizens AND NON-CITIZENS. and i didn't say there was a net migration decline. i said that the RATE has been declining for 25 years. it has gone from 6% per year (about 18M net migrants) to under 2.5% per year (8m net migrants per year). what i am CLAIMING is that this indicates that there is no "crisis". the NET MIGRATION per year is slowly DECLINING. it is not negative. i think the drug and immigration issues are similar. they are driven by demand. cut the demand, and the supply will dry up. one more thing to keep in mind: the demand is primarily from the white middle class, rip. so all of this finger pointing should be directed at the mirror.

If you get impatient, skip to 50 seconds - the intro is kinda long.
