Does anyone have any experience with Axos?
What other online banks have you used and are happy with?

No experience with Axos. Was with Capital One 360 (formally ING) for a number of years and was happy with them. Only closed the account trying to simplify things.

Not familiar with Axos. I am using Ally, Synchrony, Marcus by Goldman Sachs (yes, it does sound like the name of a men's fragrance, doesn't it?), Capital One 360, and Pentagon Federal Credit Union. I have been happy with all of them. My favorites are Ally and Synchrony as I have found their customer service to be very good. I have not needed to interact as much with Capital One 360 or Marcus customer service, so I'm not sure what theirs is like. Penfed has been adequate but required snail mail to accomplish. Their websites are very easy to use. I never had a problem with transferring money in or out of any of them in a reasonable amount of time. They all pay their top interest rate on the entire balance in the account. On the Axos website, it says that their top rate only applies up to $25,000, then it drops significantly and drops even more over $100,000.

I'm using Ally - but purely as a place to "build and store and then spend" my "sinking funds" - so I'm only transferring money back and forth between Ally and my checking account(s). I really like the "buckets". I don't use any of the other services. I haven't had any problems or issues in the 18 months I've been using Ally (so I got thru a whole 1 year cycle of 9 sinking fund save/spends successfully.)

I've never heard of Axos. I've had an American Express high yield savings account for awhile, no complaints. easy interface, transfers land by 3d most of the time.

I use American Express's online bank for most of my savings and Capitol One 360 for minor stuff. I really like both.
Are they insured by the FDIC?

i am quite familiar with CAIXA bank, and recommend them. but since they are based in Spain, you will have to report anything over $10k deposited.

My first (and only, so far) experience with online banks was with ING, which as another poster said, is now Capital One 360. I’ve never had any issues with those accounts.
My EF is at a credit union with local branches. My online accounts are savings accounts where I save to spend. The joint account Mister and I have is a Capital One 360 account as well. I don’t use the online accounts for my EF because I fear that if it’s a real emergency, I might need access to my money faster than the 3 days it takes to transfer funds from my online accounts.

I had an online account for many years with Emigrant Direct, back when it had a 5% interest rate. However, when I got married I couldn't get them to change my name and they wouldn't let me close it because I had the wrong name. I ended up transferring out all of my money to my brick and mortar bank, and letting them close me for inactivity. This was about 12 years ago, so may have improved since then.

I am actually paranoid enough that I logged into it years later to make sure that it had been closed down. It was a no fee account, but I didn't want to find out 20 years later that they had a policy change and I owed them 20 years of fees and interest. Although since they wouldn't acknowledge that I'm myself, I guess I was in no danger of them finding me with a bill.

Interesting reading. I had found them on Bankrate.com, which showed a 1.2% rate, which is great these days. But reading the offer terms, it was if you combined all sorts of things; like .5% for the money market, plus an additional X% for having a checking account with them, plus this, that and the other; it took about 4 add-ins to get the good rate.
