He is backpedaling as fast as he can because he now realizes he sounded racist as f***. The crazy thing about this line of thinking is that before this was legal, it was OK to f*** slaves, you just couldn't marry them. No, that doesn't sound racist at all

Well, when you are racist AF, you often sound racist AF. Hey hey it wasn't about slavery. It was about state's rights. Nothing racist about that. And on a slightly unrelated note if I see ONE MORE f-ing post about how "Republicans freed the slave" I am going to go postal. Maybe the Republican party was on the side of "equality" in 1850 but you sure as hell flipped sides in the last 100+ years. If you consider Cruz and Graham to be on par with "the party of Lincoln" you're a fucking idiot. And even Lincoln wasn't really for equality. He considered slavery barbaric and it was in the best interest to eliminate it for the good of the Union but he didn't give two shits what happened to African Americans after they were free. They didn't deserve to be enslaved but they sure as heck still weren't equal to the white man. He he was actually a big proponent of putting them all on a boat and sending them back to Africa. So save it you bunch of white savior apologists.

Lincoln was a at least a product of his times, and was on the correct side of history. Can't say the same of today's republican party

I'm just pointing out the whole Lincoln as white savior troupe is vomit inducing. Especially when the people hiding behind it aren't even at his level of enlightenment on the subject.

The people hiding behind it aren't fit to compare themselves to Lincoln. We would be a whole lot better off if they could even get close. I just have an issue using contemporary standards to rate historical people. By that standard, we aren't going to look too good in 100 years either. better to judge them on what they were like compared to their contemporaries

I'm not against Lincoln the man. His death had a profound butterfly effect.
I am against the polishing and turning him into.a white savior. It allows Republicans to control the narrative and wrap themselves up in a cloak. We can't be racist we are the party of Lincoln!
Freeing the slaves and being a racist/protecting your privilege aren't mutually exclusive. Until we realize that we're never going to root it out completely.
And God I hope 100+ years from now I'm cringe.society better evolve past me and not try to turn me into a hero. You can recognize good things I did while being horrified at what are now my outdated views.

So save it you bunch of white savior apologists. most people know that "states rights" is a dogwhistle for "racist". so, yeah. you can't really use that excuse, either. as to the second part, the racist party in 1850 were the Whigs. well, really not all the Whigs- just the ones in the South. when the Whig Party divided over the issue of Slavery, the DEMOCRATS formed an alliance with them. this alliance proved fruitful for Democrats until about 1970, when NIXON implemented his Southern Strategy. since then, they have MOSTLY been the GOP's problem, with a few notable exceptions. lots of bad shit happened to the GOP and to our country about the same time. it was pretty much the end of balanced budgets, the bottom 50% sharing in productivity gains, the concept of a Federal Living Wage, the civil rights movement, voting rights, etc. in other words, prior to the GOP sucking up to racists was the high water mark for America. it has been all downhill since then.

Cruz is being a special kind of asshole in this hearing. He questioned the judge about the kids book ‘anti racist baby’ which Cruz claimed was CRT.
That book is now the number one book on Amazon in the racism genre.
Tired of the politicians calling everything CRT. Next the song Jesus Loves the little Children will be CRT and banned by the Baptist’s for making white kids feel bad about themselves when everyone knows Jesus loves the white babied best.

I saw a tweet from Clinton yesterday I am supremely in favor of her being confirmed, but I need to call out sketchy posts - no matter the goal. It seems this chart cherry picked the categories. I'm not sure why being a public defender makes you more qualified than being a prosecutor. But DA isn't on there. Academia or other experience in constitutional law is also a plus. But, yes, she is extremely qualified.

Can't be. She's not white, she's not a man and she's not a conservative. Did anyone else fall out of their chair laughing when McConnell expressed his "concern" that Biden is trying to stack the court with his liberal agenda? (I forget his exact words). Good lord I don't understand how his nose didn't grow so long it poked Cruz's eyeball out. this sort of thinking results from a poor understanding of the judicial system. there are probably 1000 nominees out there that were MORE qualified than Kagan. that doesn't mean she is not qualified. but it DOES mean that AMONG THEM are probably at least one person from each race you can think of, and probably each gender, as well. How many were more qualified than the picks from the Heritage Foundation list - which was the short list Trump used? Probably way more than 1000.

Grahams GITMO position, is, to put it bluntly, WRONG.
if there is enough evidence to bring the 39 remaining prisoners (i am taking that number from him, btw) up on charges, then DO SO. if not, then LET THEM GO.
we have had over 800 detainees in GITMO. over half were turned in on BOUNTY. they were not even ON THE FIELD OF BATTLE. our government waterboarded and killed over 100 men in detention in Afghanistan. there is nothing we can do to make up for that. but we can show our meddle by giving those in GITMO that have not yet been charged their day in court.
so, fuck Lindsay Graham and fuck anyone who thinks like he does. i was done with his opinion, which i find disgustingly off center, ten years or more ago.

incidentally, he could do us all a favor by at least getting the numbers right:
Today, 38 detainees remain at Guantanamo Bay: 19 are eligible for transfer; 7 are eligible for a Periodic Review Board; 10 are involved in the military commissions process; and two detainees have been convicted in military commissions.
one detainee was transferred on March 7th. NINETEEN are eligible for transfer.
that leaves 19 that are still caught up in the process. 19. of the more than 800 people detained, TWO have been convicted by tribunal.

Graham is putting on quite a show, refusing to let the judge answer questions he had just asked her about child porn, then once again storming out of the chamber. It seems like he wants to harass her in the same way Kavannah was harassed - but he doesn’t have anything like beer soaked frat house date rape to question her about, so he’s working up some frenzy on a few past cases.

I applaud KBJ for being able to keep her demeanor but at the same time this is an excellent example of how minorities and women are forced to be the center of calm and manage the outbursts of white men.
If she flew off the handle like Kavanaugh did it would be over. She has it twice as hard because she is an African American woman. Every stereotype about women, African Americans and African American women in particular would be trotted out as proof that one should never be on the court.
Just like all the assholes joking that if a woman is on the rag watch out she'll cause nuclear war that's why we can't have one as President. heh heh heh.
Meanwhile Graham can act like a fucking two year old and is applauded by his party for it. Kavanaugh can get so worked up he's spitting on the mike and people applaud him for taking a stand against "injustice".
White male privilege in all it's glory. That's all the Republican party is anymore.

Sen. Leahy Slams Graham After GOP Senator Shouts Unhinged Tirade At JacksonRanting that Kavanaugh had been “ambushed” by Democrats, Graham furiously asked Jackson, “How would you feel if we did that to you?” “I would never do that to you!” the GOP senator declared. Senate Judiciary Chair Dick Durbin (D-IL) pointed out that Jackson didn’t have anything to do with Kavanaugh. “No, but I’m asking her about how she may feel about what y’all did!” Graham shouted while slamming his hand on the table. “Senator, I don’t have any comment on what procedures took place in this body regarding Justice Kavanaugh,” the SCOTUS nominee said. As if on autopilot, Graham immediately asked Jackson yet again, “What’d you think about the Kavanaugh hearing?” Ultimately, Graham stormed out of the chamber after his turn — just like he had on Tuesday. Sen. Leahy Slams Graham After GOP Senator Shouts Unhinged Tirade At JacksonLindsey probably ran up the stairs of his plantation home, threw himself onto his canopied bed and had a good cry.

It's not that I've never seen a man-baby in action (Graham). It's just so disturbing that these men are in power right now. There is NO WAY he should be reelected.

It is a feature, not a bug. This is what the "base" wants. It is all performative now. Sort of goes along with the lack of a platform in 2020 elections. They are out of ideas.

Yea - apparently QAnon has glommed on to the idea that the Judge is soft on child porn so letting her be on SCOTUS will make the child victims remain victims, trapped in misery due to all the pedophiles she has enabled. So the GOP is rallying the lowest denominator of their base, since they have nothing they can tar her with.

Its because voters unable to think for themselves, ignore that the US Supreme Court hasn't dealt with child porn cases in the recent past.

So I guess this isn’t about the judge at all, just posturing for the voters. Same old same old.

I wonder if Graham is taking what Don Jr. did, and it is just affecting him differently. If he keeps on this track, will SNL have to devote the entire show to mocking him?
