I don't see a thread, if there is one, please lmk and I'll merge.
is anyone else tuning in to these hearings? I've had it on for background noise today, but haven't been able to pay close attention most of the day. I noted Lindsay Graham losing his mind, but not about what as I was on a call at the time. but now, I have a few minutes to listen, and I am just shaking my head as I listen to Ted Cruz show he's still the same slimy POS. I saw a meme earlier, but can't find it now. it's a picture of Judge Jackson, and the caption is "when you have to remain a professional, unflappable, and likable woman in the presence of unqualified men"
quite the marked difference to the Kavanaugh confirmation hearing, eh?

It's sadly yet still highly entertaining to watch Republicans let everyone know they are rich racist sexist assholes while attempting to NOT reveal the only reason they object is because they are racist sexist assholes.
Maybe shouldn't have played all your cards with Kavanuagh and ACB. And you're not going to win independents if you try to stall the nomination for 3 years so there went that card.
All they got left is trying to go after her for being "weak" on child porn. Which is disgusting on multiple levels.
I am so hoping it comes down to tie and Kamala has to break it. I want to watch Cruz, McConnell, Graham and Grassley physically explode on national television as the first African American Woman Supreme Court Justice gets approved by the first African American Southeast Asian Woman VP.

i have heard her called the most qualified judge in 30 years. Can't be. She's not white, she's not a man and she's not a conservative. Did anyone else fall out of their chair laughing when McConnell expressed his "concern" that Biden is trying to stack the court with his liberal agenda? (I forget his exact words). Good lord I don't understand how his nose didn't grow so long it poked Cruz's eyeball out.

Lets say she sucked on child porn, which I don't believe. That's generally not a supreme court issue, so just move on. She deserves to be appointed, so just get on with it and do it.

I tried to listen to live coverage of the confirmation hearings today. I got so upset that I turned off the radio during a one-mile errand.

What's wrong with Graham today? Did he have a fight with his BF? www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/lindsey-graham-melts-down-and-storms-off-during-ketanji-brown-jackson-hearing/ar-AAVn3Pw?ocid=msedgntpThis absolutely set the South Carolina lawmaker off.
After arguing about the recidivism rate, he also demanded that Durbin declare whether he supported the “indefinite detention” of Gitmo detainees in federal prison, claiming that they are combatants in a world war.
“What does it matter what it goes back to?! We had them, they got loose and they started killing people. If you are one of the people killed in 2005 does it matter to you when we released them?!” Graham shouted.
“We're at war, we're not fighting crime! This is not some passage of time event,” he continued, his voice raising. “As long as they're dangerous, I hope they all die in jail if they're going to go back to kill Americans. It won't bother me one bit if 39 of them die in prison. That's a better outcome than letting them go and if it cost $500 million to keep them in jail, keep them in jail because they'll go back to the fight. Look at the freaking Afghan government made up of former detainees at Gitmo. This whole thing by the left about this war ain't working!”
And with that, Graham raised from his chair, grabbed his drink, and stormed out of the chambers.

Dumb question and invasive to boot. Lindsey's next question to her might have been asking her what gender she is. After replying she is a female, Lindsay would have asked her if she could judge a male.

Wow! I'm guessing Lindsey Graham (Baptist) confirmed that Jackson would be a TERRIBLE choice.
I'm sure Graham's choice of Catholic being judged was no coincidence.. the only thing worse than a Catholic is an Atheist...
I'm noticing a trend in all of what sounds like absurd questions for Jackson - they all center around all the "boogie men" that Republicans use to put fear into the hearts of voters.
A great way to get lots of derogatory info about her out into their target audience's heads (not particularly rational republican voters).
(Cause, please, please tell me a reasonable person who votes republican isn't made just a tiny bit uncomfortable by these questions.... )

I haven’t had time to watch but apparently CRT has come up.
I guess the GOP candidates need some nice footage for their campaign commercials.

He absolutely had the right to defend himself from such outrageous questioning that had no baring on how he would operate on the bench. If anyone has a right to get spitting mad at a line of questioning it's KBJ. I think she would have been totally within her rights to get up and punch Cruz in the face. Chuck her microphone at Hawley for good measure on the way out.

Blackburn, a senator from Tennessee, asked KJB to define what a woman was.
KJB said she couldn’t, she isn’t a biologist.
Blackburn said she wanted a Supreme Court justice who would protect our nation’s children- I guess from all the boys willing to transition to women so they can excel at sports against women and rake in all those big endorsement contracts to are currently showered on female athletes and not male ones?

Blackburn is very conservative according to Wikipedia. I guess they all need to get their digs in as they have nothing useful to say or ask.

I was reading an opinion piece on CNN that basically boiled down to the reason they are asking these questions is midterms are coming up so they want to get all their dog whistles out there so voters will continue to be riled up and pick them to save America from itself.
And since they pushed Thomas and ACB in they can't openly say they don't want her because she is a black woman without revealing themselves as the ass hats they truly are. Nor can they get her on education or experience because she's more qualified than the other hacks they pushed through in both areas.
So they have to think of new ways to throw her under the bus.

SNL is going to have lots of material for the opening sketch. I do wonder what they plan to do for Ted's latest airport drama. hollywoodlife.com/2022/03/22/jimmy-kimmel-ted-cruz-montana-airport-security-reaction-video/The references to Ted came after the Texas senator was seen having an apparent heated exchange with an airline worker in Bozeman, Montana on March 20. Video of the moment in question went viral on Reddit on March 21 when the Reddit user who claims to have posted the video share more details about what went allegedly went down. The poster claimed that Cruz “made thinly veiled threats towards the employment of the people involved” after he missed his flight. Security reportedly had to get involved.
Jimmy has never been shy when it comes to mocking Ted Cruz, so he really went for it when he addressed the situation on his show. “Apparently he missed his flight and then demanded to speak with the manager of the airport a dozen times, to the point where they had to call in security,” Jimmy explained. “He should stay out of airports, right?” He then referred to Ted as “Cancun Karen” and played a clip joking about what the senator must’ve been (inappropriately) saying during the exchange with security.
“There’s no way he’s getting spontaneously hugged [in airports]. Can you imagine hugging Ted Cruz?” Jimmy wondered, after playing the clip. “Donald Trump hugs [his son] Eric [Trump] more than flight attendants hug Ted Cruz!”

Do all Republicans feel this way? I suppose this guy is also against the national 1964 and 1965 Civil Rights Acts too. If we left it up to the states to decide for themselves we would be in a shit load of trouble when it comes to civil and human rights. Republican Sen. Mike Braun says Supreme Court was wrong to legalize interracial marriageThe U.S. Supreme Court was wrong to legalize interracial marriage, Indiana Sen. Mike Braun, a Republican, argued on Tuesday. Suggesting the historic Loving v. Virginia ruling by the Supreme Court decades ago was a case of improper judicial activism, Braun said the court should have left that decision to the individual states, including those which had already outlawed interracial marriage. "When you want that diversity to shine within our federal system, there are going to be rules and proceedings, they're going to be out of sync with maybe what other states would do," Braun told reporters. "It's the beauty of the system, and that's where the differences among points of view in our 50 states ought to express themselves." The Republican's larger point was to publicly dissuade President Joe Biden's Supreme Court nominee, Ketanji Brown Jackson, away from what he described as "activist" behavior from the bench. They need to think before they they talk, otherwise they cannot hide their outright racism. If the Supreme Court is not the place to argue about our basic rights as citizens of this country, why is it even there

I was reading a book about The Clotilda this week and it is amazing to me that the "States' Rights" line is still being touted. You could drop all these Republicans into 1850s Alabama and they wouldn't be the least bit out of place.

States rights always means ‘maintaining the dominance of the white males.’ It started when whites thought the blacks would outvote them and continues today when they see non whites/ women succeeding in what used to be white male domains. Poor snowflakes.

Well, looks like Senator Braun has already done a flip.
He says he misunderstood a line of questioning.
Yeah, that’s the ticket …..
