We get a lot of shipping cardboard from ordering stuff online. I have 3 boxes right now that need to be dealt with. How do you use it under your mulch? Just remove the tape and lay it down and put mulch on top of it? I don’t compost, but if I can find a use for all the cardboard boxes we get, that’s not too much trouble, I’m interested. We have recycling bins, but it seems that lately, those bins just get dumped with the regular garbage. That's it. About 4 layers of cardboard really reduces weeds. I've been saving mine all winter and am lining flower beds. Yes, a great weed retardant. I soak mine in the rainwater cisterns first to make them more pliable. Lay ‘em out and cover with bark or mulch depending.

I will admit that I am tempted to fill up the gas tank more often. I usually fill up around half a tank, but the constant rise in prices I feel the pull at more like 3/4.

Oh, I hope that's not happening too often. I have a 10-gallon tank, so not worth the extra time, but I can see how someone on a limited budget who drives a truck might be tempted to do that. I just have bad memories of the gas shortages in the late 1970s due to the Arab oil embargo. If a station had gas there were giant long lines- people would top off their tank even if they needed only a quarter of a tank. The crazy-long lines ended after they started odd-even rationing (based on license plate) and instituted minimum fill-up requirements (back before self-serve so they could enforce it).

Well, when you drive 60 miles round trip for work everyday it does not take long to use up a tank of gas anyway.

I just ordered paper products, we will use them and prices aren't going to go down.
Also got my potassium iodide to tuck away.
Need to sort through my shelves, put the older stuff in front and add some vrey long dated items to the stash.
This thing with the Ukraine is not over yet.

Not really because of inflation. If you are following the news the Chinese area that is closing down again produces almost half of the retail items coming to us. I hope America learns and goes back to being more self sufficient. But I guess the companies make so much money even now you can't make them come back to the US.
It may bite us in the butt yet. Time will tell, they said a lot of electronics are made there.

So everyone is willing to pay more for us to manufacture things here now. That is why things got offshored in the first place. Strange, since we have a thread where people are complaining about inflation, and have a party that will run an entire campaign blaming Biden for it.
Can we just make up our mind, is inflation good or bad? Because prices will definitely go up if we pay the wages Americans expect if we manufacture things again

Bring back the manufacturing. I will pay whatever I have to, screw inflation. Americans have too much crap anyway. I am so sick of China. Their stuff isn't generally made well anyway, it is just cheap.

We need a work force first. Nobody to do all this manufacturing. I work for a manufacturing company and we had to farm a lot of our work out to China, Thailand and Mexico not just because it was cheaper, but because we didn't have the head count to support building here.
We actually own all the companies in the other countries, so I'm not sure what to call that as far as American made or not.

If you use labor in China, I call it not American made and supporting an evil government. I am actually not partial to American made. Just not in China, I think it is becoming a national security issue, that we are so dependent on them.

Goes to show we need a good immigrant policy. If you can bring them in, in an orderly manner and they can see citizenship as the end result I'm sure more will go that route. We need the bodies, but we need them as taxpayers and their kids as future citizens not what we are doing now.
I guess they are trying to push up birth rates with no abortion, ok, might help 20 years from now if most are not on welfare, because of parents that did not want them and didn't raise them well. We need people now, to help farmers, if not more is going to be raised overseas. We have all this land and won't even be feeding ourselves the way it goes.
We have no problem with paying more for products that are well made and for domestically raised food. The only problem I have with increasing prices for are drugs and insurance. I want health care for everyone. They are getting it some way now or letting it go until they are so sick it cost a fortune to get them better.
I was listening to people leaving Ukraine, some of them going to these other countries will qualify for health care in short order. Sure won't get that here. That is in Europe.

I’ve been getting into hydroponics, because I’ve been eating a lot more organic produce, and I wanna have a supply year round. I have one of those systems that grows 30 plants into square feet of space. I am also starting a lot of my plants in mason jars using the Kratky method.
Our cars are older, so we’re thinking of getting at least one electric car.
I have been steadily building up a supply of non-perishable food ever since the early days of the pandemic when everybody was panic buying.
I’m glad I’m not the only one that was getting those crazy prepper recommendations just from looking up gardening advice on YouTube.

We also need a better educational policy. It’s one thing for a kid who’s in the top 10% of their class to graduate with no skills, because they did the college prep track. It’s something else entirely to let a kid who’s unlikely to be successful in college graduate high school without a trade. And frankly, I don’t have a lot of sympathy for companies who don’t invest very much time or money in training, and won’t hire entry-level workers when they bitch and moan that they can’t find trained workers.
