DH was a huge Disney World fan. I admit it grew on me. We went an average of every 2 or 3 years. We’ve decided no more Disney. They recently enacted some changes on the park that make visiting completely and enjoyable, irritated, and scheduled. They have left no space for spontaneity. It’s also become exorbitantly expensive 1. Park reservations. If you had a park hopper pass you could go from park to park without any restrictions. You’re not required to sign up in advance for which park you want to go to, and you can only go to the park after 2 PM. What if I get up and I decide I wanna go to the waterpark instead of magic Kingdom that day? 2. Dining reservations are required for just about everything, and you need to mobile order. So that means first thing in the morning at the latest, you need to decide what you want to eat that day. 3. Magic hours only for the people who stay in deluxe resort. Anyone who stayed at the park in any hotel was able to spend extra time at the parks either before or after closing. Now that is only open to the people who pay the price for the deluxe resorts 4. No more Magic express. He used to be able to be shuttled to the park from the Orlando airport as part of your park package and they took care of your luggage. That doesn’t exist anymore. You get yourself there 5. If you drive there you have to pay to park at the hotels 6. Pay for premium rides. If you want to go on some of the choice rides, If you don’t wanna wait in line for three hours, you have to buy tickets for the ride at the cost of about $15 per person. That’s on top of your park pass 7. Jeanie Plus. It’s a park navigation system that allows you to get to the front of the line on other rides. You also pay for that. It replaced a free fast pass systemWhere it was first come first serve DH and I have traveled to Europe for less hassle and less money than Disney. I’m very sad about it, but I cannot in good conscience support these changes That alone would be a deal breaker for me. Been long time since going to DW - in 73 and 76 when kiddo was young. Then again in 83 with friend to pick up her son who had finished some naval school there. Only us adults and had a blast. But I can't imagine DW being so structured that I would enjoy at any level now

coasters are definitely more a Six Flags thing. oh, and Cedar Point. I need to get back there....it's been 20y this year. I went to cedar point several times when I was younger, and worked up my courage to go on the biggest, fastest roller coasters. I think I'd get a heart attack now, I feel so old. CP has some extreme coasters, though I went on the wooden roller coaster at kings island a few years back and got whiplash- no more coasters for me. Plus I always had to ride with my eyes closed because of my fear of heights. Simpson ride at universal is more my speed now. And the hog warts train.

I admit it has been years since I was at Universal, but the lines sucked there as bad or worse than at Disney. They had just started the Universal used to beoine theme park with one price and they split the original park in two and charged for each park, and the price was much more than the original park to do both. Harry Potter set up was started and never got there due to lines, Lines for coasters were riduculous too. They were more expensive... Disney saw it as a challenge. Universal has had a paid express lane for years. It seemed so expensive compared to Disney with their free version. No more - at least universal is one price for every ride you just choose either once per ride or unlimited. And certain hotels have always given it to you for free. If universal had more festival stuff I'd probably get passes - but the mardi gras and Christmas stuff isn't enough of a pull to get it. Yeah if you stay at a hotel on site you get a fast pass for the rides - well worth the extra price to me, plus you can park your car and take the shuttle boat to the parks and city walk restaurants, don’t have to fool with parking or driving, which is nice after consuming the adult sized margaritas. Horror nights are good but adult scary - I wouldn’t take kids - plus very crowded, although for an extra cost you can get a fast pass there also.

We went last April just as things were opening up, masks were still required but more of the attractions had started opening up at that point. I'd been a handful of times and a coupe since having kids, but this last time was my favorite time BY FAR. Reduced people in the parks, no fastpasses so you just waited. It was great, the problem with fastpasses is you think that you're standing in a line that looks like 10 minutes but then all these fastpass riders come through and, before you know it, you're in a 60 minute line.
I love Disney, but it is expensive and stressful. My wife is not a huge disney fan and was pushing this year to be our last trip, but even she had such a good time that she considered going back. Not sure though, i've heard the lines and crowds are just horrible right now.

Yes, that would be my concern. And Disney has to walk a fine line. Selling more FastPasses = more revenue but if you sell too many the FastPass buyers have a longer wait than they expected and the people who didn't buy FastPass have a REALLY longer wait. It strikes me that their recent changes take a page from the airlines. Figure out what people REALLY value that's now included in the price (e.g. an aisle seat) and charge a premium for it.

I wasn’t aware of Disney politics, deal breaker for me, too. I respect whatever you believe, but don’t try to play both sides, that’s double shitty. Greedy bastards.

Disney pledges to stop Florida campaign donations over ‘Don’t Say Gay’ billTALLAHASSEE, Fla. — A rift between Walt Disney Co. and Florida’s Republican leaders escalated on Friday when the California-based entertainment giant pledged to stop donating to political campaigns in the state over the controversial legislation branded the “Don’t Say Gay” bill. The move, announced in a company-wide email from CEO Bob Chapek, marks the most substantial pushback Florida has faced over the bill, officially called “Parental Rights in Education,” and comes a day after Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis publicly trashed Disney for being a “woke” corporation by opposing the legislation. I'm not saying get back together with Disney; I just wanted to include this update in the conversation.

I saw that.
While I’m happy to see they are now doing the right thing, it took a lot of pushing by the employees to get them there. Chapek was “surprised” at how hurt the employees were. I’m sure they were some of the more productive imagineers that got him to change his mind.

Hopefully this pushed them to get more organized so they'll push back to get more diversity in movies and TV shows!

Chapek is a moron who only cares about his bottom line. He's failed to realize that people pay those prices because it's been a high end product before. Cast members were top notch.

What I saw yesterday on Twitter was that Disney was stopping donations to ALL politicians, not just those in favor of this law, for now. IOW, they will pause donations until they decide on a new policy going forward.
So lots of cynical takes on this - Disney is not choosing a side, and Disney will just restart donations later when it's pushed out of our short term memory.

They pause for a while, while people are paying attention. Then they go right back to the same old ways when the public moves onto the next big thing.

Disney, Tandy (later Radio Shack, now bankrupt) and Brunswick were my first three stocks. of the three, Disney was by far the best investment over time.
i am not making a case for Disney. just reflecting.

Companies make donations to politicians because they need their support for a regulation or bill at some point. Unfortunately, this is how our system works. The organization I work for sends money to both republicans and democrats. They honestly don't care about anything other than getting political support when needed. You do that by donating to campaigns. It's a shitty system...
In regards to Disney just being a pain in the ass I have found almost everything has become a pain since covid. You have to plan for every little detail these days. I find it highly annoying but it seems to be getting a little better. At least restaurants in my area are now starting to be fully staffed so you don’t need a reservation. For a while you could not get in anywhere without one.

I am now totally confused why Disney keeps digging that hole around their empire. It is like they are tripling down with their stance, and I do not see a winning outcome for them. Disney always tried to stay out of news that could affect them financially. Maybe this wil not, but it could. www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/disney-corporate-president-says-next-generation-queerer-company-must-get-with-it/ar-AAW0Slc?li=BBnb7KzEvidently "The happiest Place on Earth" does not flow up to upper mgmt. Myself I do not have a dog in this fight with them. I am pass the age of fighting the crowds at DW and do not buy their streaming services, but, we do occasionally buy gg kids Disney stuff. I do not think they are winning a lot of hearts and minds with this tactic. (If you want to change corporate structure and thinking do it quietly and privately within a timeframe and do not put all your warts out there for the world to see) maybe they are at that point already to do the next step..........or the upper mgmt is at war with each other.
