VATICAN CITY — Strolling through St. Peter’s Square, the heart of the Roman Catholic Church, Steve Bannon surveyed the enemy camp.
The populist political consultant has a new target in his crusade against “globalism” — Pope Francis.
“He’s the administrator of the church, and he’s also a politician,” said Bannon, a former adviser to President Donald Trump. “This is the problem. ... He’s constantly putting all the faults in the world on the populist nationalist movement.”
Two years ago, the pope cautioned against growing populism in Europe, warning it could lead to the election of leaders like Hitler.
He has called for compassion toward migrants, saying that fearing them "makes us crazy," as well as other marginalized groups including the poor and gay people. He has also defended diversity.
Bannon alleges that Francis has mismanaged numerous sex abuse scandals roiling the church, and says the pope is not treating the issue seriously enough.
Burke and Bannon reportedly met at the Vatican in 2014 and are both involved in building an incubator for budding right-wing ideologues in Italy. Bannon described the project as "an academy that brings the best thinkers together" to train "modern gladiators."

I feel this is just another leg in the Steve Bannon destroy the world tour, so I take his allegations even less serious than say Rudi G. However, posters may have a different take on this than I do.

Pope Francis did not start the sex abuse scandals in the Catholic Church, and he is doing what he can to work through them. I don't like what has happened, but sex abuse amongst clergy is hardly his fault. Steve Bannon is just another tiny-minded tin tyrant, looking for another paper platform to hang his shit hat on and spout his venomous vocabulary. He's so far out of the mainstream society, he cannot even see it, and knows he'll never get back in, so he's gone over the deepest of the deep end.
Sure, pick on someone who isn't going to fight back. That's what the right wing-nuts do. They pick on the Pope, transgender children, pregnant and poor women, or anyone without a strong voice or the financial means to take the fight back to them. Beat up the weakest and call it a victory, you Trump-groveling, dictator-kiss-up cowards. The rest of us see you for what you really are.

Just to give some context. The "Burke" reference here is Cardinal Raymond Burke who was bishop in LaCrosse, WI and later archbishop of St. Louis. Very conservative in both religious and political matters. (I would say he ignores much of church teaching when it comes to social justice and community responsibility issues) Here is the wiki article on him. Cardinal Burke ETA: Pope Francis has sidelined him in several ways, removing him from posts at the Vatican that he use to have.

The world would be a better place if Steve Brannon got hit by a bus.

The world would be a better place if Steve Brannon got hit by a bus. you are going to have to convince me that he has not been hit by a bus, first. he certainly looks like it.
