They found that someone who watched only Fox News would be expected to answer 1.04 domestic questions correctly compared to 1.22 for those who watched no news at all. Those watching only "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" answered 1.42 questions correctly and people who only listened to NPR or only watched Sunday morning political talk shows answered 1.51 questions correctly.

FOX is failing miserably in their duty to inform the public.
perhaps their license to broadcast should be revoked.

MSNBC viewers only know 3% more than those that watch nothing.

which is about 20% more than what FOX viewers know.

advice to those that watch cable news: STOP.

I wonder how good news knowledge is for those of us who watch the major channels broadcast news - CBS, NBC, and ABC. I think NJ12 does a great job of covering news local to NJ plus some NYC and other news sprinkled in sometimes. Not really a source for international news although they are doing human interest stories on some Ukrainians in NJ.

In addition to the regular networks, I like to catch international news programs.  You often get stories that they don't even cover in the good old USA.

People that I have met who sourced Fox News have been the most sadly misinformed people I have talked with.  I find children to generally be far more rational.  (Given that rational decisions and opinions can only be formed from "real" and true information inputted)

i think AJ is fantastic.  approximately where US journalism was in the 70's.
they pull no punches.

About 25 years ago, a study concluded that regular Fox News viewers were found to be the least informed while believing they were extremely well informed. 

That's a dangerous combination, and it seems to have brought us to where we are today.

They believe they are informed because they believe that any other viewpoint isn't the truth. If you are asking hard facts - like the name of heads of state or something, it is easy to grade them incorrectly. But, with something like Covid, where things are changing and we are learning more everyday, the "truth" seems a little more iffy.

On all the cable news programs there isn’t enough distinction between ‘news’ and entertainment. My lovely MIL watches nothing but FOX and friends and thinks it’s news. When my DH tells her some piece of news she hasn’t heard before she’ll tell him ‘I don’t know where you get your news from but that’s not true.’ 🙄

Except for those of us who live in red areas - all I can get on the radio that isn’t right leaning is NPR. The talk stations have money people like Dave Ramsey or far right loons.

I stick with reading it on multiple sources.

Bill O'Reilly Blasts Fox News Hosts' Ukraine Coverage: 'A Disservice to the American People'

Former Fox News host Bill O'Reilly put his old network on blast, saying "it's a totally different operation now" while criticizing television news at large for spouting propaganda.

In a segment of his BillO'Reilly.com show, the 72-year-old credited Fox News National Security Correspondent Jennifer Griffin for correcting several guest commentators for spreading misinformation about Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

He rolled a clip of Griffin calling out Douglas Macgregor for claiming that Vladimir Putin is entitled to annex Ukraine and that he is not after the western part of the country.

"… There were so many distortions in what he just said, and talking about the west and NATO vilifying Putin and sounding like an apologist for Putin, and talking about how he thinks he knows how far Putin wants to go," she said. "I don't think anyone that I've spoken to here at the Pentagon or elsewhere [in] Western intelligence believes they know how far Putin wants to go."

O'Reilly upheld Griffin's pushback as an example of how far Fox News - among other news channels - has fallen in terms of accountability and factual accuracy.

"Now, why I'm running that clip is - not only to show you how gutsy she is - is that it used to be that propagandists would be slapped down hard and now they're not," he said.

NPR will get you a hell of a lot smarter than network news.

In the early aughts, I used to watch O'Reilly. I also used to watch Hannity when he was paired with Colmes. Most of the time I disagreed with O'Reilly and Hannity. But it was interesting hearing their positions on current events.

Former Fox News Director Jack Hanick Charged With Violating U.S. Sanctions in Work for Russian Oligarch

Former Fox News director Jack Hanick was charged on Thursday for violating U.S. sanctions in his work with Russian oligarch Konstantin Malofeyev, according to the Justice Department.

The U.S. sanctions on Malofeyev prohibit American citizens from working for or doing business with the individual, and Hanick, 71, was found to be working with him over the course of several years and made false statements about that relationship. Hanick was provisionally arrested in London in February, with the sanctions charge carrying a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison. The false statements charge carries a maximum penalty of five years.

"Konstantin Malofeyev is closely tied to Russian aggression in Ukraine, having been determined by OFAC to have been one of the main sources of financing for the promotion of Russia-aligned separatist groups operating in the sovereign nation of Ukraine," U.S. Attorney Damian Williams said in the release. "The Indictment unsealed today shows this Office's commitment to the enforcement of laws intended to hamstring those who would use their wealth to undermine fundamental democratic processes. This Office will continue to be a leader in the Justice Department's work to hold accountable actors who would support flagrant and unjustified acts of war."

Malofeyev was previously sanctioned for threatening Ukraine and providing financial support to the Donetsk separatist region. Hanick "knowingly chose" to help Malofeyev by spreading "destabilizing messages" and attempting to establish TV networks across Russia, Bulgaria and Greece, according to the department.

In December 2014, the Department of Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control designated Malofeyev as a Specially Designated National for being one of the main sources of financing for Russians promoting separatism in Crimea. Hanick worked directly Malofeyev from around 2013 through at least 2017. He began traveling to Russia in early 2013 to meet with Malofeyev regarding plans for the TV networks and later that year moved to the country after negotiating employment terms with Malofeyev, the department said.

After 2014, Hanick continued working and reporting directly to Malofeyev, playing a leadership role at the Russian TV network as board chairman and general advisor and producer, according to emails from 2015 to 2017.
