I just find it so hard to believe he would even try this. Soooo hopeful that laws are in place to stop him asap! It's a twitter feed, give it a bit...

This is what the republican party has become. We all need to show up to vote people like this out of office.

The Dallas County DA announced he will not prosecute families seeking gender-affirming care. I would post the link but it's behind a paywall.

He has also instructed all teachers, doctors, and caregivers to begin reporting any trans students they see.
The Republican Party has become the party of snitches. Like Russia.

The party of small government, my ass!
ETA: this sort of behavior continues until they suffer at the poles. All those who do not vote, and all those republicans who will not vote democrat despite being "against" this sort of behavior are complicit. Glad I live in a rational part of the US

I bumped into this video yesterday: (Trae Crowder is a comedian - there's some not safe for work (or children) language and this is one of his comedic "rants". ) I find what he says humorous and often to the point. (for some reason his accent hits my ear wrong - I assume it's very exaggerated None of the "southern" people I know or am acquainted with who most definitely have accents/different speech patterns talk quite like he does. I'm assuming he's being "humorous". Hmmm. now that I'm thinking about it it might be that he is imposing an accent on the wrong speech/phrasing pattern.. I don't know what it is - but it hits my ear wrong.)

It's spreading. DeSantis-backed 'Dont Say Gay' bill sparks outrageA Florida bill that would limit classroom discussions on sexual orientation and gender identity and encourage parents to sue schools or teachers that engage in these topics continues to move through the state House and Senate. It's being called a "Don't Say Gay" bill by LGBTQ advocates, who fear that if this bill is signed into law, it could act as a complete ban on the lessons on LGBTQ oppression, history and discussions about LGBTQ identities. An amendment to the bill was proposed Friday that also would require school officials to disclose a student's sexual or gender identity to their parents within six weeks of finding out about the student's identity. State Rep. Joe Harding, the sponsor of the legislation, withdrew the amendment Tuesday afternoon before it was to be debated and voted on the House floor. Harding said in a statement to the Tallahassee Democrat Tuesday that "nothing in the amendment was about outing a student," and that it was intended to "create procedures around how, when and how long information was withheld from parents so that there was a clear process and kids knew what to expect." "Rather than battle misinformation related to the amendment, I decided to focus on the primary bill that empowers parents to be engaged in their children’s lives," the statement continued. The Florida Senate Education Committee had moved the bill forward earlier this month, but it still has to be approved by other Senate committees and the state House. Yeah, the accent is off but the message is spot on. And his comments on the power grid are on point too as ERCOT announced that the electric power supply will be "tight" through mid-day tomorrow. Cause, you know, they are having a little bit of cold and ice up in North Texas. But, y'all don't worry none, Abbott got his campaign funds from the oil and gas industry without delay.

Wiki says Trae “Crowder grew up in rural Celina, Tennessee, near the Tennessee/Kentucky border.”

The underlying premise in both these new laws is that the schools have to rat out the ‘out’ kids to their parents, and the parents will perform the necessary actions to nip that trans/homo activity in the bud.
I wish I had a gay kid in school in Florida so the school could call me up to inform me that my kid was running around saying he was gay.
Wonder what they’d do if I said ‘I know, we’re so proud, and he’s got the sweetest boyfriend” and hung up.
I guess they’d report me to the cops or DHS or something for failure to clutch my pearls at having a gay kid.

Ignorant question here that I know for a fact is gonna spark some outrage, head shaking and gasps: ”trans children”- define the child part! Do we think it is a good idea to allow/tell children that anything they want is possible? Even if that means a sex change that from what I read is not necessarily painless and easy? What if they change their mind when becoming adults? Do we expect public funds to be involved in the transformation?
Personal opinion is that we should allow children to be children. Almost all boys wanna play with dolls and all girls wanna play with trucks and tractors. Just like adults do! But if say a boy likes playing with Barbie dolls, it doesn’t mean that the parents should steer him towards a sex change procedure because “he might be a girl inside” How about we allow them to become adults first so they can make their own decisions? Informed or uninformed, THEIR decision!

You know life doesn't count after it's born. It's not about pro-life it's about controlling women. But even Republican women would probably wake up if they blatantly stated that so they have to wrap it up in a noble religious cause. And I'm sure they will use it to fuel even more bills like this because we "must protect the children!" because clearly these suicides happened because we allowed children to believe being LBGTQ was normal.

I think it's about these people thinking they can buy a good person card by doing this. Seth Miller had a great bit last night on his show. It wasn't about this particular issue, but I liked the blunt perhaps you are a bad person message. It concerned Trump's speech on Putin with the rich GOP cronies in attendance. I'll post if the clip turns up tonight sometime. To paraphrase the bit, "you are a bad person." Forcing women to birth unwanted babies will not change that.

Informed or uninformed, THEIR decision! I don't think you can get surgery before HS unless its a clear medical sex parts issue. Like which one do you want to keep, or these are missing, or recently ... a person's balls remained inside the body cavity and the local doctors were confused why this person did not present like a girl. Its usually not as simple as playing with X or Y. The person feels they have the wrong body, and in many instances, it has been found that the fetus was bathed in more of the opposite gender hormones while in utereo, so the brain develops in a certain gender manner, but the body might delay and develop the other way. Its complex and not as simple as some want to pretend. And XY is not the onlu combo that exists out there with regularity. XXY. XXXY, and others. And then there's nurture and social expectations on top of that.

Informed or uninformed, THEIR decision! Yes this is ignorant. Like incredibly ignorant. Discovery a couple of years ago did an excellent documentary on the science of sex and gender. I suggest you start there with educating yourself. Then there are books and various lectures you can seek out to further educate yourself. Being diagnosed as transgender and being able to do hormone therapy and/or reassignment surgery requires the involvement of doctors and psychologists. It's not something you can just walk into a doctor's office and say "My son likes Barbies give him a vagina!" The fact that you think any parent would encourage a child to do that because they want to or any doctor would agree to that that is really bizarre. I'm sure the parents of transgender children want what is best for them as any parent does. As it stands transgender people currently represent about 3% of the population. Transgender atheltes, the other favorite conservative boogey man, are less than that. I imagine the number of children in Pk-12 is even smaller than that. The world didn't end when women could vote, interracial couples could marry, or homosexual couples could marry/adopt. So conservatives need to find a new boogey man to get people riled up so they don't notice what the left hand is doing and get them to cheerfully sign away their civil rights in the name of "protecting the children". Why shouldn't people who are transgender be allowed to live their lives as they please? Who are they hurting? Naturally they want to be treated like human beings as the rest of us are. They should demand their rights and it's only natural it's happening now that headway has been made in other areas involving the LBGTQ community. They've always been there you just never noticed because conservatives weren't ringing the hysteria bell in an attempt to get votes. They'll still be there and the world will not have ended anymore than it did when other targeted groups finally won.

Thanks for the explanation NomoreDrama but my “ignorance” was referring mostly to “how it’s this decision made”. Is it the child, is it the parents? Who supports the consequences, expenses? What all is involved in the decision making? It seems to be a hot topic in the conservative circles and often mentioned as “ungodly” or something similar. As it happens, I have direct contact(not on the regular basis) with a group of young adults that are LGBTQ, of all colors for that matter. Also, one of them is a transgender and I love him to death! Sweet, wonderful kid! They enjoy having me around because I ask them blunt questions, I don’t color it pretty as to keep them comfortable! They greatly appreciate that, answer all my questions, clarify everything but I would never ask them “what made you do that” because I know there is nothing that made them do that, it’s who they are. However, one of your remarks sounds a bit weird for me still :”Being diagnosed as transgender ” I never knew that one needs to be diagnosed for that!
My ignorance on the matter had nothing to do with women voting rights or interracial marriage. That it appears to had been a problem just in “oh, we are so far ahead the world!” US. The rest of the world didn’t care and as you might know, I grew up in “the rest of the world”.

One of the employees at a retail store was in transition when I met them. He's a competent manager. I hardly remember even what he looked like initially. Of course, I really only care if you are a good person or not, and like competent people. I was OK with him in the beginning and fine with him later.

Just like to get SSDI, you need to prove a disability through a doctor in order to qualify.

It's a question of mental health, not cosmetic surgery. I'm fine with that. I don't know what's going on the Evangelical States of America, but it's scary. Canada needs a wall. You guys are nuts.

As far as I’m concerned, medical care under any form and circumstances should be given to all provided that is necessary. That would mostly leave the butt lifts and boob increases to the “elective” side that would not be funded by public. But as you know, opinions differ and education and health care seem to be rather unimportant compared to “what country will we invade next” or “how can we boost corporate profits?” As a young man, before I actually became an “American” I was always in awe of “how great this nation is! How do they do it?” After living here a bit over 25 years, I can’t stop but wonder “ how in the world did this nation become the most powerful?”

The rest of the world didn’t care and as you might know, I grew up in “the rest of the world”. Gender reassignment surgery is not covered under insurance as far as I know that may have changed. That's why it can be so risky because people will seek it out in countries that do not have the same scruples we do but the price is right. The decision is made by doctors and psychologists from what was explained when I attended a talk on the subject in college. In the case of minors anything medical the parents have to be involved so that's a given. You can't just go to a doctor and get or get your kid hormone replacement therapy, nor can you just walk into any American plastic surgeon and get gender reassignment surgery. There is a laundry list of things you must meet in order to qualify for either. I don't think they even allow gender reassignment surgery on minors in the US that was a topic that came up on I am Jazz on TLC. The episode I caught part of was she has been on hormones for the required amount of time but her age disqualified her from surgery.
