On Saturday morning I got my hair cut. On the way over one road had the right hand lane blocked for at least half a mile. I thought there had been a crash, but no. Turned out all those cars were lined up to get gas at the very lowest price around here: $4.999
The place I go to is $5.3999 and that is about $0.30 below average. I did not line up to get the cheaper gas on my way back. And it is about 8 miles from my hone so no chance in hell that I will go over there just for gas...

Prices dropped about .15 cents a gallon here. Noticed it when out and about yesterday. Of course it’ll probably climb back up 30 cents to make up few days of lower.

As an aside: I watched the movie Giant last week (Rock Hudson, Elizabeth Taylor, James Dean). There's some not particularly pleasant commentary on our Government and American oil in it - and this movie is from the 50's. So, I'm guessing American oil has been a hot topic for a very very long time. Oil is 90% of the reasons we go to “help” foreign countries for whatever reason the media/politicians spew! On the topic of Giant the movie if you ever get to see the documentary Children of Giant that is another eye opener on a different level. Saw it years ago on PBS or at least think it was pbs. May be on google but it’s old but interesting.

Price of oil per barrel has dropped considerably. Price of gas here dropped from $4.259 to $4.249. Dropped around ten cents on Sunday, but no change since then. I look for the national average to fall to plus or minus $4.00 a gallon very soon based on commodity prices.

From your link- Without energy, food and trade services, PPI rose a modest 0.2% in February -- markedly less than in January and the lowest level since November 2020 -- and 6.6% over the 12-month period, also a decrease from the start of the year.

Careful, all those numbers confuse the narrative. Things are just awful! They have never been worse! It is all the President and Democrats fault! Things were perfect when Republicans were in charge!

I think the price of gas affected the price of a case of water in the short term. The grocery store usually prices their brand at $2.99 or less for a case. Yesterday's sign had it at $3.99. And I ended up paying $3.99 for the only regular sized 3 pack of romaine lettuce in the store. Only other option was cute small artisan romaine lettuce at an unknown price. I might end up buying 3 cases of Poland Spring water for $11 unless I get to the further grocery store in hopes their water case price remains under $3. And the war in Ukraine looks worse and worse.

I paid $3.79 a gallon for gas last week. It's $3.99 today.
I will be using a tank of gas to get to the basketball tournament this weekend.

Big bonuses if he hits the $1.00 with only one spin.

My experience with increases prices: I went to get a new phone because my 2018 Samsung had reached its 16G storage limit--four years of require updates takes up some serious space. This was a phone that I had paid $110 for back in May 2018.
I went to AT&T but they didn't have any with higher storage limits so they punted me to Best Buy. THEY didn't have the one that was the next level up in storage--sold out company-wide--so I had to go up to the next model. So, instead of the $200 that I expected to pay, it was $379 plus the cost of the case and the screen protector which brought the total to nearly $500. Cost almost as much as my mortgage payment when it was all said and done.

I’m not sure this is the thread we had a discussion on price of eggs and to lazy to dig thru post and don’t remember who my reply was to. But the jest was that someone said they bought 60 eggs for $xxx and I replied that I would have to take their word for it since I had never seen 60 count eggs in stores where I shop.. Fast forward to today. Picking up my normal 18 count of EB eggs when I see 60 Eggs on box up high on shelf. I couldn’t see price so I moved down a little to check price. Apparently one of the snatchers and grabbers decided I should not occupy that space and practically bumped me out of the way. But I can now say I’ve seen 60 count eggs. And my avocados have gone from .78 to .82 to 1.00 in two months time. But ice cream is still same as last 5 yrs. Go figure.

Another data point on gas- $3.69.9 at Costco in MO. I REALLY wish they'd outlaw that silly .9. Does any station use any decimal OTHER than .9? I did shopping for DS and family's visit and bought my usual bag of dried blueberries- the kids love them in pancakes AND for snacking. I swear they used to be $6.99 or $7.99 a bag. Today they were $10.99. I get that some of it is supply chain, fuel costs, increased wages, etc.- but I think they're all tacking on a little extra because they have handy excuses.

I just got the Estimated Market Value of my residence for 2023 property tax purposes. 2022 assessed value - $319,800 2023 assessed value - $377,400 There is an exemption amount that reduces your property taxes but it's based on the value of your residence and it decreases as your house approaches $413,800. That amount was set 10 years ago and never adjusts for inflation. The median house price in Minnesota in 2011 - $135,000. The median house price in 2022 - $355,900.

There was a reason behind the .9 explained a while back but I don’t remember enough of details to try to repeat. But it had to do with pricing and marketing.

I should be getting mine next week and I sure hope the percentage increase isn't that high. I've been paying pretty much the same property taxes for 22 years now. It's only gone up a few hundred/year in that time.

@athena53 ran across this about .9 on gas
The practice of tacking 9/10 of a cent on the end of a gas price goes back to when gas cost only pennies per gallon and was a tax imposed by state and federal governments. Gas stations added the fraction of a cent on the end of the price instead of rounding up the price. Back then, a full penny would have been a budget-buster for customers. The federal tax was implemented in 1932 as part of the Revenue Act of 1932 and was supposed to expire in 1934 — except it never did.

@athena53 ran across this about .9 on gas <snip> Thanks! The station could still round it up by adding 1/10 of a cent to the price but I know there's a whole marketing psychology behind prices ending in 9 rather than 0. Apparently things priced at, say, $99.99 are perceived as more of a bargain than something that costs $100.

I see $99.99 and my mind goes to $100.00 He said I was wrong. I guess it's easier for me to think in whole numbers.

Mine does to, or it sometimes sees $99.99 as more than $100, because I automatically add sales tax to the $99.99 number, while I'll wonder if the $100 already includes sales tax. Though, it's usually smaller numbers that have sales tax already included in the rounded price. Or maybe I'm just backwards. ETA: plus look at the visual. 4 large numbers--99.99, vs only 3 small numbers--100. Psychologically, more large numbers would feel bigger. You need the logic center of your brain to translate it the other way.

They are 5 and 7, and when we check prices on things (last thing that comes to mind was the school book fair), I always tell them that $5.99 means $6 😆 We haven't gotten into the intricacies of sales tax yet though!
