Tonight when I got home from work, I looked around the cupboard and fridge for something good to eat. I didn't see anything interesting so I decided treat myself and go to KFC for the 2 piece dark meal.
Now its been about 2 yrs since I've been there because of all this this covid crap. Last time I got the 2 piece meal it was $5.99. I was shocked to find its now $8.99 . I went home and made me a tuna and cheese sandwich.

Chicken is one of the food items that has been difficult to find during the pandemic.
Prices are going to increase now because there is a new bird flu and entire flocks are being destroyed.

Even my favorite Chinese buffet is up 30% over the last year. A trip to McDonalds for "cheap" lunch now costs me $12. Food prices have been creeping up for some time. They will eventually level off, but I don't expect to see them decrease much.

There is a local place where we go for wings when TD gets the craving. For the first time ever, there was the term ‘market price’ on the menu under price.
Since when have chicken wings been on the same scale as lobster? Oh, and in my order of wings, 2/8 were the wing tips! That never should have happened.

Granted they're eating 2 cheeseburgers each these days, but that's without drinks. Cheeseburgers used to be $1. I don't even know what they're running now. A lot more. Im also getting the spicy deluxe grilled chicken sandwich there, which isn't cheap, either. Slap a couple slices cheap-ass iceberg and tomatoes on there, and it adds a buck or 2 to the price.

Wage increases might be a contributing factor as well.

I only order off the deals on the mobile app for McDonalds. There's usually BOGO of Big Macs and free fries, otherwise, it's not worth it outside of the dollar menu.

Anyone experienced in butchering chickens? wanted to mention to Rip I normally sell KFC's secret batter recipe for $25. But due to inflation, the price has increased to $48.95 per download. Didn't want his spirit crushed two days in a row.

Grow your own chickens. Problem solved (other than knowing KFC's secret batter recipe). Raise your own chickens. Grow vegetables. Anyone experienced in butchering chickens? Yes, I used to help my grandmother butcher chickens. You can either wring their necks or chop it off with a hatchet...best to do that on a piece of a 2X4. I can also skin & clean rabbits & squirrels and clean fish...either skinning (catfish) or scaling...I can even filet then if necessary. Back to the chickens...once it's dead, you will want boiling water to dip it in so you can remove the feathers easier.

I thought the old-fashioned way was a hatchet and a tree stump.

Yep to all Kedee said as well. Also skin a deer and butcher a hog. Doesn't mean I want to do any of that again. Well besides the fish. I enjoy fishing, so I will clean what I catch.
All that being said, with chicken breast being like 90% of ODD meat intake and the fact that we don't always have them in stores right now I have stocked up in the freezer with them, when I can. I do figure 4 packs is enough however that will last her a month, so just picking one up now when they are in after we use 1. The whole first in/first out deal.

At grocery store I usually go to whole chickens were all around $20 (and up!). There were around 4 brands. Crazy when a whole barbecue chicken is around $6 or $7.

Are you talking about a whole raw uncooked chicken? I’ll have to check out chicken here. I don’t eat chicken but the rotisserie chickens most places here are $5 and have been at that price for years and still there. Fresh Market is at $7.00 I think. Got my curiosity up!

ah, Chicken flu... www.reuters.com/business/healthcare-pharmaceuticals/usda-reports-highly-lethal-bird-flu-kentucky-chicken-farm-2022-02-14/ I don't think it will effect poultry prices in the US - there are a lot of producers of poultry around the US and the Bird Flu isn't wide spread at this point. I think the increase in prices of poultry is due to labor shortages at packing plants and the old "supply chain" issues. I think restaurants have way bigger jumps in prices due to other issues rather than the cost of their "ingredients".... fast food (at least in my area) was increase in leaps and bounds every 6 months before the Pandemic. (back in 2019 - I was betting that the next "recession" or "huge job loss" would be triggered by people no longer being able to afford to eat out at the rates they were use to... because the price of ALL restaurant food kept creeping up and up and up.... Back in 2019 - I was truly starting to wonder how people managed to have so much income that they could spend so much on "take out" or "restaurant" food on a regular basis... But then the Pandemic happened... )

It will be interesting to me to see what happens to delivery companies and certain food establishments as the pandemic becomes endemic. I think the primary growth of food delivery is in the top 40% of income earners although 'My 600lb life' makes a case for almost all of the severely overweight doing so as well regardless of their income status. I think as things open up and workers are again required to come back into work physically, it will be interesting to see how this affects takeout and home prices.

DN3 is the manager at a Dairy Queen. I can't tell you how many times he has been yelled at because they didn't have chicken tenders. Customers were calling to see if they had chicken tenders.
He also said that lots of elderly people think it is outrageous that there are no more $5 meals. I know it went to $6 and may be $7 by now.
I also know my dad would have quit eating there over the price increase. He thought prices should be like in the 50's. He was very upset when the $4 meals became $5.

I think the chicken tender shortage is ongoing. I don't know why, but what's stocked at the grocery store has been fewer varieties much like the beginning of the pandemic. Maybe labor issues?

I haven't noticed much of price increases where I shop, but some things are harder to find. Chicken breast for example are still 1.99/lb when I see them. What I have noticed is that where there use to be the yellow discount stickers on stuff that needed to be sold that day, aren't there anymore. I would grab that stuff once in awhile if I new I would cook it that night. But that tells me things aren't sitting on the shelves, and people who relied on those items to stretch their budget are most likely seeing a jump in their food cost. I am wondering what the farmer markets prices will be once they start opening again. The CSA box I look at every year, hasn't gone up in price but I do wonder if they are putting the same amount of stuff in them.
While I don't eat out very often, I have noticed price increases with restaurants around here.

Chicken breasts have been pricey and in short supply for awhile around here.
Chicken wings have shot up too.
But legs, thighs and whole Chicken is still cheap so I grab the family packs and freeze them in meal sized portions.
I have no clue how pricing works.
I mean one Chicken has all the parts. So two legs, two breast halves, two wings etc. Why the price difference?
Maybe it has to do with the process of making them boneless? Or demand? I know DH doesn't prefer bone in chicken. I told him deal with it.
