Proud Boys Member Reportedly Organizing 'People's Convoy' to Washington
A leader of the "People's Convoy," the protest planned for Washington, D.C., to resist vaccine mandates for U.S. workers, is reportedly a member of the far-right extremist group Proud Boys. American truckers in the convoy are allegedly departing in late February for the nation's capital to protest government COVID-19 mandates they deem unconstitutional. The organizer for Maryland's chapter of the convoy is believed to be a member of the Maryland D.C. Proud Boys. Jordan Green, a reporter for RawStory, gained access to the Peoples Maryland/Virginia Convoy chat on Telegram, verifying the connection to the nationalist group. "We've been tasked with collecting supplies, having people ready for the sides of the road when they do come through our territory, and if they stay in our territory to supply them," @gthaze wrote under the username Peter Venkman, according to RawStory. RawStory claims the same username posted comments in the Official MDC Proudboys channel on Telegram last month. Before changing their username to @gthaze, the account was "Ghost MDC," allegedly matching the name on a patch worn by a Carroll County member of the Maryland Proud Boys chapter at a rally, according to Green. There are over 46,000 members in the People's Convoy (OFFICIAL) national Telegram channel. Users have posted warnings from other states urging those participating in the protest to be cautious. "You need to know exactly what you are getting into and who you are dealing with," username Jeff wrote in the channel Wednesday night. "We have a corrupt government and corrupt courts with corrupt judges. You better expect the absolute worst! They are not going to just give in. And you need to remember the US is an armed society." Other posts in the Telegram channel talk about the January 6, 2021, insurrection at the Capitol, saying the convoy will be a duplicate. "True Patriots follow Trump AND HIS GENERAL MIKE FLYNN. This is real!!! Convoy is Jan 6 round two," user Robert Anderson posted. The People's Convoy is a spinoff of Canadian truckers' "Freedom Convoy" that protests new requirements mandating truckers get vaccinated against COVID-19 or face possible quarantine or testing. According to a January 2021 report from the U.S. Department of Justice, the Proud Boys are a "nationalist organization." Since then, the group has been banned from several major social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube. Newsweek could not independently confirm the user's screen name, as it appears to have been changed or deleted. Article here: Proud Boys Member Reportedly Organizing 'People's Convoy' to Washington

nice of them to admit that they are planning an armed insurrection BEFORE the fact.

Isn’t it a little late to mount this kind of protest? Corona is going away, at least for now, and at least in other parts of the country (not my bright red slice of it, where we never had many restrictions against it in the first place). I’m not aware of any vaccine mandates being advised for truck drivers.
Why not call it what it is - a Let’s Go Brandon Grand Snowflake Tour.

It's sad to even think this, but I hope the Capital police are well-armed this time, and not afraid to use force if the protestors try to do a "Round 2". Some of those police had injuries that lasted for months. This time the police should have the freedom to fight back.

The insurrection on January 6th was poorly planned and executed but at least they got a couple of things right - the day and the place. If they were going to stop Biden from becoming president, that day was the day to invade the US Capitol Building where they were counting the Electoral College votes. The declaration they want ended is signed by the Secretary of Health and Human Services so attacking Congress makes no sense (not that making sense would matter). Thinking this one is going to fizzle.

I think the protest will not be more than sound and fury.

School mask mandates were lifted in NJ. What mandates are truckers protesting against? Individual companies can choose masks or not and policies in between that. I'm too tired, but I can I have a small virtual protest against their protest?

The only upside to the rising price of fuel is it's costing these covoys lots of money.

I read an article about how participants have dropped out due to the Covid restrictions lifting and the focus of the protest becoming more of a general disgruntlement. I can stay at home, get some work done in my yard and save a lot of gas money while still expressing my general disgruntlement.

They are building capacity. But the people who are responding know that they are being cased so they are using one strategy now and holding a better one in reserve. But unfortunately for them the original guys know that so they using one mobilization strategy now and saving a different strategy for next time. 🤔

The only upside to the rising price of fuel is it's costing these covoys lots of money. Absurd trucker convoy jamming up the Capital Beltway has me rooting for higher gas pricesOK, let me get this straight: A truckload of U.S. truckers has assembled outside Washington, D.C., to protest something, but nobody quite knows what. Is it the mask and vaccine mandates that most cities and states have already dropped? Who knows. On Sunday, they formed a convoy and did two loops around the Capital Beltway. What did they accomplish? Who knows. They’re threatening to repeat the driving-around-in-a-big-circle thing Monday, but to show they really mean business, they’re adding a third Beltway lap, and organizers say they’ll add an extra lap each day until their demands are met. What are their demands? Again, who knows. ... Look, if you trucker convoy people are mad and want to vent your anger, I get it. Just the other day I stopped to get a vanilla cone at McDonald’s and the soft-serve machine wasn’t working. I was furious. But I didn’t respond by making it damn near impossible for America’s hard-working satirists to write silly things that expose other people’s silliness. So to defend my profession, I hope rising fuel prices make it fiscally impossible for you all to keep trucking the 64-mile loop around Washington, trying to convince who-knows-who to stop doing lord-knows-what. Please leave the mind-bending absurdity to the experts. Because, frankly, we’re swiftly running out of material. how many truckers are we talking about here?
PS- they have been raising funds for this via GoFundMe and other places, so i would not be so keen as to root for higher gas prices EXCEPT THAT it will end the silliness sooner.

Something about truckers trying to drive around the capital beltway just makes me laugh. I drove that road for years and it is a hellscape that no one gets on for fun.

They apparently didn't have much success yesterday due tiot the way people drive. Trying it during the week with all that traffic, who would even notice if they made it worse.

Disorganized, pointless angry flash mob - sounds exactly like something the Proud Boys organized.
