There were elements that really wanted to turn this violent. I credit the police and the honestly peaceful protesters for stopping that from happening.

There is a big element of white privilege going on. I want to see the police show the same restraint when the protesters aren't white.

Since they did not quote the actual article or even the phrase in context, I am dubious. People who write the headlines are different and less well paid than those that write the articles. Did the police probably have guns on them? I would think so. That's different from actually using them to threaten someone they arrest. I think some people got overzealous and saw what they wanted to. MO

Please stop calling them peaceful. They were not peaceful. You can call them mostly non-violent but they were most definitely not peaceful.

Having useful idiots party on your streets honking horns day and night and setting fireworks off whenever the fuck they feel like isn’t peaceful. Declaring it is your body and your choice so you won’t wear a mask but harassing others to take theirs off isn’t peaceful.

Disrespecting businesses right to have restrictions you must follow and verbally abusing staff isn’t peaceful. It is so much bullshit to act like they are not intimidating people to try to get their way.

And that isn’t bringing up the scary shit that we could eavesdrop on their Zello accounts. Like the self described very well off American that was concerned about the $15,000 investment he had made through GFM and his offer to come up with security specialist friends to help them with logistics.

Elizabeth May at the end of her time during the debate points out that it’s like being in a domestic violence situation and the cops are saying you aren’t being abused if he hasn’t pulled a gun on you.

Attached is a video of Elizabeth May's contribution to the Emergencies Act Regulation debate.  I hope it is available outside of Canada.  It is 30 minutes long.  I would really appreciate it, if people would watch it.  Not only does she and others bring up what has been happening in Ottawa throughout but I think she gives a good overview of what the Emergencies Act is and isn't as well as her concerns about how it is currently being implemented.

Fox News Contributor Admits to Creating Fake Story About Canadian Woman Being ‘Trampled’ to Death

Fox News contributor Sara Carter has walked back her entirely fictitious claim about a woman dying after being trampled by a Canadian authority on horseback amid ongoing trucker-led protests.

While the claim wasn’t accurate, the tweet was red-meat for her over 1.3 million conservative Twitter followers, who quickly amplified the baseless death as evidence of Canadian government wrongdoing.

“Reports are the woman trampled by a Canadian horse patrol just died at the hospital ... #Trudeau #FreedomConvoyCanada,” Carter, who purports to be an “award-winning correspondent,” tweeted Friday evening.

Shortly thereafter, conservatives picked up and amplified the tweet, including former Fox Nation hosts Diamond and Silk and Republican Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX).

On Saturday morning, attempting to do clean-up, the Fox News contributor admitted her reporting was false.

“The Reports I was given earlier yesterday from sources on the ground that someone may have died at a hospital during the trampling was wrong,” she tweeted.

The Fox News contributor and frequent Sean Hannity enlisted field reporter added that “someone was taken to a hospital with a heart condition - not due to trampling. I want to clarify this again and apologize for any confusion.”

Carter didn’t return The Daily Beast’s Saturday evening request for comment, but the fictitious tweet about the woman dying at the hospital was deleted following the inquiry.

Canadian students give Nazi salute to Jewish teacher whose parents survived the Holocaust

Canada’s largest public school board has apologised after students at one of its schools directed Nazi salutes at their Jewish teacher last week.

The antisemitic incident took place on Thursday at Valley Park Middle School in North York, Canada, which is overseen by the Toronto District School Board (TDSB).

The unnamed teacher, whose parents both survived the Holocaust, said she entered her classroom to find two pupils making the offensive gesture, while another said “Heil Hitler”.

The event occurred on the same day that antisemitic graffiti was found at the school.

Earlier this week, Colleen Russell-Rawlins, TDSB’s director of education, released a statement apologising for the pain and harm caused by the incident.

“On behalf of the TDSB, I want to apologise specifically to the teacher, and to all the students, staff and families who are impacted by this horrific situation not only at Valley Park, but throughout our system,” she said.

Ms Russell-Rawlins added that TDSB was committed to countering antisemitism and other forms of racism, which she said have risen sharply in Canada.

The education director said steps would be taken to “proactively” inform students “about the roots of racism and hate”.

Shari Schwartz-Maltz, a TDSB spokesperson, said the pupils would be punished but did not give further details. She added that education was the best way to challenge bigotry.

In a letter to parents and students on 17 February, George Bartzis, the headteacher at Valley Park, described the antisemitic incident as “very upsetting and unacceptable”.

“We take great pride in our school as a welcoming, safe, and inclusive place and this has always been our message to students. It is also not reflective of who we are and what we stand for as a school and as a community,” he said.

In light of the abuse, pupils and students at the school will learn about anti-semitism by hearing first-hand testimony from Holocaust survivors and their descendants next month.

The affected staff member remains “deeply traumatised” by what happened, the anti-racism charity Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Centre (FSWC) said in a statement.

Michael Levitt, the organisation’s chief executive, called for an emergency response from the TDSB, saying the rise in antisemitism at its schools was “unprecedented”.

He added: “It is unfathomable and shocking that, in 2022, a Jewish teacher is faced with Nazi salutes and a ‘Heil Hitler’ chant in her classroom. Clearly, something is broken in Toronto’s public school system and requires immediate attention.”

it was soliciting donations for Truckers for Freedom, which are organizing a "rally"
to send trucks to DC starting on March 2nd.

i will believe it when i see it.  they were requesting donations by the mile.

i am not sure that conclusion follows from ANY of this.
i am not even sure something is "broken".
what we have here is a long term chronic racist faction.
it is probably in EVERY society.
it is only how those societies choose to deal with it.
you can't stop it from being there, and you can't 
"teach" it out of households that probably filled with
Nazi propaganda and "loving" parents that instill these
values.  they will ALWAYS win over the school system.
the best thing a school system can do is not tolerate it, probably.
