point of clarification. is the "first day of trading" according to your first post TUESDAY?
because TO.DBM traded today. no holiday up North.
i trade a lot of canadian stocks. so this is going to keep coming up.
is the "first day of trading" the "first day of trading on US markets"?

djAdvocate I usually give a date at the bottom of the OP or say Tuesday. This time I did not so apologies for that. i will start all entrants with today's open and try to be more diligent about clarifying the contest dates in future weeks.

Good Morning everyone. I am trying to get back in the game this year. Last year I was gone for a big part of the year, and did not bother getting into the game because I was still gone sometimes over a week at a time, and never put the effort in to join the fray. And yet I still missed the first two weeks here  For the first qtr this year I will probably play mostly our infrastructure/Industrials as even as the markets may be up or down for the next few months, the infrastructure/industrials should be stronger than the actual markets as a whole. Alcoa, ticker AA has a great chart for the last year, and should continue upward. Cleveland Cliffs has been all over the board the last year, but needs some good vibes by mgmt to move it this week imo. I do own two hundred shares right now. Will go with AA This week, but it is close to a triple bagger for a year, so I am tempting the Gods to torch me. AA, long DOW looks weak at the opening............. |

Russell closed below 2100 today.
major support level.
dates back a whole year.
this is the SEVENTH test of 2100 in that time.
i will be carefully watching the opening. might be time to short this market.

side note: some stocks are performing quite well right now. the metals sector is doing well:
DBB- the base metals sectors has been doing well for about a month now, and the technicals look good.
CEF- gold and silver also look good
LAD- this one is also on a tear, but it is kind of an anomaly. probably due to high prices of used cars.
CA:DBM- building materials stock
DBC- basic commodities inflation hedge has been on a tear for six weeks. new SEVEN YEAR HIGH today.

dj, if the QQQ's opened at the bell Gap down this morning, that is where he takes the number from, not the Friday's closing number. Many a time we have all taken a hit on the opening bell compared to the Friday close. I mostly use CNBC DATA and for whatever reason opening prices on my picks do not always seem to match Yahoo which is used here, but usually just a couple of pennies at most. In the past I use to check Yahoo to make sure, and clark's numbers are correct as of yahoo.
I am showing the opening on the benchmark as being around 370 on CNBC way down from your reporting of the 380 benchmark which was the actual Friday close but four off of Clark's opening number for it.
And on the market today.
Mod's pickTGT, was up while WMT WAS DOWN A COUPLE OF POINTS......
Brutal market.......
steel stocks took a big hit today. So much for infrastructure!

Why have we not heard from architecto for nearly a month? I don't know what the problem is with Arch's computer, but he has emailed me. He has sent emails to both Mod & Uncle & is concerned since neither have replied to him. Evidently he isn't getting anything from either of you & you aren't getting his. I "think" I have his son's email...should I alert him that his Dad needs help getting his computer fixed so he can communicate? ETA....I'm wondering if he got hit by one of those scams that say they are Microsoft? I know a gal on another board I frequent got a message from them today, but she knew not to call the number they had on the screen. She called Best Buy instead & the Geek Squad told her how to get out of that mess....just ctrl, alt, delete and then when the screen comes up...click 'restart' and that fixed hers. I wonder if resetting his computer to a date a couple of months ago would work? |

i got phished recently. it was REALLY convincing. i gave some really private details away, but the most crucial one i mistyped, which saved me a load of grief. went in and changed EVERYTHING on that account immediately after. no fallout as far as i can tell. but it was both humbling and upsetting.

My wife and I have one hoa company that sends out a mass email to the residents every Friday. We never receive it, contacted them to confirm email address being sent to, and it is ours. If they email just us at our email address we receive it all the time. Mass mailing of an email never. Neither they or us can figure out why. We are listed in their mass emailing list. We check junk and spam box not there....... That happened to someone else I know...can't remember who now...but do remember that it all came down to how they had separated each email on the list...whether it was a comma or a semi-colon....it was just a matter of changing it & it worked after that. Might suggest that to your HOA folks. I'll see if I can find his son's email. Arch is saying that Microsoft took over his computer. I think he got scammed & needs it to be fixed for that. ETA....Ok, found the email & sent him a message. Now I just hope he helps Arch get his computer back working right. |

The last two hours of trading were brutal. Netflix reported after the bell and was kneecapped in the after hours market, dragging other streaming services down with it. Last I looked, Netflix was down a $100 a share to just over $400. Disney dropped over 6 points, Roku down, etc....... Most of us should have taken kaddee76's lead and shorted heir horse this week. Then there was Peloton......  I see more red tomorrow......... |

I checked the futures a few minutes ago and notice bitcoin was under $39000. Even the ten yr rate came down this morning 1.76% and gold down too. No where is reallly safe this week. |
