Are you having problems with the IRS FIRE System (File Information Return Electronically)?
First of all, it wasn't even available until January 7th and it didn't work that day. January 8th (Saturday) I came into work and managed to upload some 1099s.
Last night the site was super slow. I was able to log in but ended up getting an error.
Today it is moving super slow again. I will probably get an error.
They want you to file these electronically by January 31st, but the site it s#it!! Grrrr!

I use Sage 300 CRE software for work, and the 1099's and W-2's get electronically filed via a service called Aatrix. My W-2's were mailed out sometime last week, and I have received mine...which resulted in DH telling me I need a minimum 10,000 a year raise or I should quit... have not done the 1099's for work yet.
DH has 3 employees. I use Quickbooks for that. I printed the W-2's last night, but did not try to file them with the IRS yet. I am not sure if I am due a credit for COVID Sick time and or Family Leave for one of his employees - need to confirm before I file 941. I guess I could file the W-2's b/c that will not affect the W-2's but I don't need to file them until the end of January so I will look at it within the next week or so. I was very releived my W-2's were correct though. I had to switch payroll products mid year, and I was afraid they might be wrong. Checked my totals to the 941's and they were good to go.

The software I use creates the electronic files but I have to upload them to the IRS. The FIRE System is where they get uploaded. I dread calling the IRS to find out what the problem is. Odds are I won't even get through.
We do tax reports for many different businesses. I wish I could send them off and get them off my desk.

I tried to call the IRS on Tuesday afternoon re a notice I got regarding 2020 reporting. I got through the voice prompt menu to a certain point and then it said something to the effect that their cue was full for the rest of the day, said Goodbye and hung up on me. So if you need to call them, I suggest you start early in the day. My solution was to just toss my forms in the mail and hope for the best. We are under 21 employees so we are not really subject to electronic reporting.
