Ugh, I just opened the bottom drawer of my large file cabinet and it's one huge mess of miscellaneous paperwork, computer stuff, etc. I know to take it one page/manual at a time, but at the moment I feel like I'm trying to empty the ocean with an eyedropper. Sigh..... back to work.

This year is not off to the great start I was anticipating. My car is in the shop and it will cost a minimum of $1200 to fix it (not until next week) and I have covid. I feel pretty much like I have with any other cold or flu I've ever had: tired, achy, sore throat, cough and most notably ANNOYED! I had goals this week. Whining over...I've only been in contact with DH and two other people recently and I let them know. So far they are fine. I guess Netflix is in my foreseeable future. oh no! I haven't been in this thread since just before you posted this. I hope you're on the mend now? <hugs>

So...if any of you need help decluttering, come spring thaw, I'm really good at holding trash bags. So long as it's within a days drive from Indianapolis.

nidena, I did something similar with my clothes 3 or 4 years ago. Prior to that, I hadn't done a major clothing purge for about two decades. (After the purge a few years ago, I posted a picture here on WIR of the before and after of my side of the walk-in closet.) I will admit I kept a bin each of concert shirts, Harley shirts, clothing that doesn't yet quite fit, and I refuse to toss, and a bin of keepsake shirts. Since the purge, I've donated a bag about once a year, but lately I've been thinking it's time to do another major one. Speaking of ridding of old items, I received an email from Decluttr saying they received and reviewed the CDs I sent to them. They gave me just .80 less than they originally offered! (Two of DH's CDs were damaged, apparently.) This means $40 for our dining out account, and two boxes of clutter out of the house. When I have time, I'll review more of my CDs for this process, as the majority of this submission were DH's. If you decide to use Decluttr, PM me as they have a referral program. I started a new game with myself over the weekend called, "How long had that completed task been on your to do list?" ~Found my missing glove-about a month, well, more like 12 months because I was missing it last year, too, LOL ~Clear out kitchen pantry of all crackers, etc.-about a week ~Organize back pantry to get things off the floor-several weeks ~Figure out what is wrong with the new LED candle-several weeks (turned out it already needed new batteries) ~Review with DH trail maintenance reports-5 months or so ~Review auto service coupons to determine relevance-several weeks ~Store the remaining Christmas items-a week Other regular tasks completed: ~5 loads laundry including sheets ~Emptied 3 garbage cans ~Scrubbed 3 toilets ~Meal and groceries planned ~Fun stuff: Watched YouTube videos, listened to a few NFL games, played too many Words with Friends games, and made several meals in the new air fryer I am pleased about the fact our main kitchen counter is nearly cleared off from the holidays. re: concert shirts - I totally get that, I'm the same way. I found a link awhile back for a place that will make a quilt out of old t-shirts. I just haven't pulled the trigger on it. (haven't found that box in this house yet, either..) sign up for their mailing list. they send me "coupons" and sale notices all the time. no reason to pay full price. www.projectrepat.com/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=brandcampaign&gclid=Cj0KCQiAoY-PBhCNARIsABcz770SPnJo8mFWNcqc5emBaGSrOUZ16y1jF5hViTCD70-2ZMv6KX2CFmcaAiILEALw_wcB

One bag of shredding is done and in the recycling container. At this point, the shitepile has been separated into two piles: recycling and filing. The recycling is in the bin. I know there's more shredding to be done once I start tackling the files. Tally, bags of shredding: ll ETA: Updates as I go along, to keep the thread uncluttered. this is exactly where I'm at. on Friday, I opened the toy box in my guest room, knowing I had stuffed a bunch of things in there from the old house that didn't have a home here. oh boy, did I find a lot of crap to get rid of! 😳 there was an old foldable cardboard storage box of paperwork from HS and college (I know...) on top of a stash of NKOTB stuff - posters, a puzzle, posable figurines, yeah. the rest of the toy box was all listed on the Buy Nothing group. all that is left of *that* is a printer and a bunch of cables. I've gone through all of the paperwork and have a sizable shred pile to actually shred. anything recyclable is already in the bin. keep up the great work, everyone! I love what I've read as I caught up on this thread. will make sure I check in more often 🙂

Thanks for this chiver78 I have several totes of concert t-shirts and I can't bring myself to get rid of them. Same for basketball t-shirts. Looks like I will need to buy 2 eventually.

If you prefer a more personal touch, my friend Pam does T-shirt quilts. Her FB page: Sew Blissful Stitches Mine turned out great and I got to pick the border colors along with the stitch pattern. I think it cost $200 or something like that. She's based out of Ohio.

I did get most of the paint and Christmas tubs upstairs and have more to do Monday. Clearing out the laundry room has shown me how much I’ve stashed in there and I’m attempting to keep it clear so I can find and install tiles next.
The 3 largest vases that don’t fit on the pantry shelves went atop the china cabinet today.
I need to move the rug from the office out to the garage and then move the cabinet with electrical stuff on it. Then I’ll be close to empty for the floor pour and tile eventually.

I was just offered a bunch of individual hours with another professor, so little prep, no marking and sometimes on Zoom. Now I'm reducing my hours by 13%, which is perfect! nikiz628 good luck with the surgery! I think you're wise to do as much as you can before, because you're right about not being able to carry any weight for a while. Also, make sure they give you enough painkillers! Being sliced open hurts.

Up early today because older dog went to the vet for a teeth cleaning and I did not sleep well last night. As with most procedures, he couldn’t eat or drink for 12 hours and was very unhappy about it.

Trying to declutter my Todo list and its not working. I still haven't been paid UE and the only way to find out why not is to call the re-employment center which is not open today. The state sent me the official loadable card last week. Why, IDK, as I signed up for direct deposit. I am dangerously close to that 10 weeks the guy in my complex told me about, and he's still waiting (it months now). At least he has a new job.
Today whoever got the job I was applying for starts today. I didn't even get interviewed after going through the group Teams meeting. I guess I didn't get my stuff in quickly enough, but I was exhausted from working on ID.me for 5 days prior to that. Well at least Road Runner Sports didn't fight me on canceling the renewal I got no email on.
So sad and angry I just want to scream.

happy Monday, everyone. I was mulling it over last night, and I think I've decided to allow myself ONE tote of "I don't wanna assess this thing right now" and I can park it for awhile, out of sight. my totes are clear 20gal plastic with lids that snap shut. I'm imagining the NKOTB stuff, old movie posters in good shape, that kind of thing. I may be able to get some $ for some of it, and while I'm in the mindset of "pitch, sell or gift" I'd like to keep plowing through. I'll lose my steam if I stop every 5min to figure out if some collectible is actually worth something.
on the agenda today is to finish the cardboard box with the NKOTB stuff in it. there's more paperwork under the collectibles. After that, the guest room is basically done for clearing out crap. I can shred the pile next to the shredder and figure out the next thing to attack.

I did manage to write up, photograph and donate my pile on Saturday! Win for me. Really mind boggling is that I donated 24 pairs of socks and I still have plenty.

I have some things that I can't yet make decisions about. For me, it used to be the Beatles collection, but now it's become my parents' things. I am not as bad as my sister who can't let anything of theirs go and her husband couldn't let any of his parents' things go. There are some things I am on the fence about and I'd rather keep for now and give it more time. It is times like this when I do wish I lived somewhere bigger and I could easily sell the Beatles collection items locally. Here I have to do it on eBay and I found out unless it's very valuable, it's not worth my time. My niece was really in to NKOTB, too. She's about the same age as you. DN1 was in to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Did you quit/get laid off from your job at the nursing home? I didn't advertise because it was painful and a surprise. Less of a surprise to some of my co-workers, but the admin had put a target on my back and HR let her pull the trigger. They "investigated" but not actually by talking to me. I thought I had a good shot of returning as the last employee investigated actually did use swear words at a patient and it was witnessed by employees.

I'm sorry you lost your job, Opti . You and me both. I didn't love it, but it finally paid enough to float by. I endured through over seven direct bosses, probably eleven of more administrators, but I ran afoul of the last one. I can only hope someone above her treats her with the consideration she has shown me.

There is high demand for office staff in healthcare settings right now. You should have no trouble finding a job.

DH even cleaned out the cabinet above the refrigerator I can't reach. Let's just say that the stuff in there was last used when our friend's son was 3 months old. The kid turned six years old last month We dropped off two donation boxes at Goodwill. We had three but I forgot where I stashed the last one until we got back home.

There is high demand for office staff in healthcare settings right now. You should have no trouble finding a job. There is, but there are far more applicants than jobs. In the beginning I was getting interviews. Now Indeed regularly has 200 to 300+ applicants for one office staff healthcare job (that I applied for). I'd prefer not to go back to the SNF/AL space, as I would like to go back to having a life even if its only being able to attend church regularly and do things like choir. I did not have to do insurance verification as doctor's offices do, I could easily learn, but at least one interviewer thought it was a big deal. I have a Master's in Electrical engineering dammit. I think I am more than up to it, but hiring peeps want what they want. So much of getting a job is sales and timing. And luck, lots and lots of luck.

soupandstew the others have already heard this story, but since you're new here ... DH and I had our 31YO kitchen remodeled in 2016 (it was literally falling apart). The installer had purchased (not sure what it's called ... facing?) that was the same as the cabinets to "hide" a small niche near the corner cabinet. He said to me, um, given that you're not very tall, if you want, I can leave that niche open, because it's JUST big enough for a small stepladder! So that's what we did! (I'm 5'2.) Like you, I no longer feel comfortable standing on the top of the stepladder! I too ask my DH for help with the top shelves. But I thought you might enjoy the story LOL.

Opti , I have ZERO qualifications in career coaching, but might people think you're overqualified for the healthcare jobs since you have a Masters in Engineering? Would it be worth leaving it off your resume? Alternatively, is there any sort of certification you could do to get back into engineering? Like I said, I'm certainly not qualified to give advice on this. But if I were you, even though it's painful, I'd lay everything out on the YM jobs thread and ask for advice. There are engineers, people in healthcare, recruiters ... I'm SURE you'd get good advice there. And I don't see applying for jobs anywhere on your list ... shouldn't you be focusing on that too? Perhaps you are, and you just didn't put it on the list. In which case I'd add it, because you really need to focus on that too. Best of luck to you, as always. We are all rooting for you!
