I was improving my eating and exercise habits, slowly, before vacation. The vacation actually helped since there's a park a couple of blocks from my mom's house. I went there every morning to walk. It was so nice to walk and see trees, hear birds sing, etc. Plus I don't have a car there. I would walk to the grocery store every day, carrying a little grocery cart along with me. It was about 4 blocks away, but it made me move. And coming back with my cart full was a little workout. People go the store almost everyday there. There's no concept of going once a week and buying for the whole 7 days as I do here. People like everything fresh, plus the city is very walkable and there are grocery stores nearby. Some days I ate healthy, but most days I would get delicious local food. I would go out to eat with friends. I tried to control portion sizes and not worry too much about it. By the last week I could feel I'd lost some weight. I could feel my stomach area was tighter. <snip> Coming back though, I asked the flight attendant for an extender as I boarded, but when I got to my seat I could fasten the belt without problems. Granted, I had it extended to the maximum possible, but it was comfortable and I didn't need the extender. <snip> Sorry for the long post No need to apologize- that's a real victory! I sort of had the same thing happen to me in Germany and Malta- didn't have a car, walked a lot (Airbnb rental was an hour's walk form main attractions but very pedestrian-friendly and beautiful weather). Lots of places where I could get good, fresh food. I ate bread and cheese and had an ice cream cone (single scoop) nearly every day and LOST weight. I'm going to check out BumpeeGirl; right now I've got a few favorites bookmarked on Team Body Project. Typically they have 3 people doing the workouts with various levels of stretching/exertion so you can follow the one you're comfortable with.

Well 143 today. I do think I want to get a new battery for the scale. If that is true my eating and hiking on the trip broke even. Either way I need to come up with some new goals. I certainly met the goal on the trip to be able to do all the activities that I wanted to do, well besides the longer hiking in Glacier Park, but that had to do with the sever winter storm that was going on while I was there. I love the snow and was thankful for it, but did not feel comfortable doing the harder longer hikes with that going on.
But now I need new goals. I think I would still like to lose some weight, not a lot between another 10 and 20 pounds, but I think for going to the gym I am going to work on muscle building, maybe 3 times a week. Honestly, this is the first time in my life when my main health goal has not been to lose weight. Still want to eat healthy, I will say I was very glad to be back in my kitchen. I believe that I maintained eating pretty health on the trip besides the slices of pie, Rommegrot, and frozen custard. I stayed away from chain restaurants and fast food, looked for more local stuff I would not be able to have here. I had a decent food budget allotted, and it was certainly easier to stay with health choices that way. But it did make me think, just another way that being financially tight can affect someone´s health. Today I am going to do yard work at my aunts, so I think that will count as my gym day.
I am another one that is going to say just walking makes a huge difference. This past two school year with bouncing between the 8th grade and 7th grade hallways I did more walking then I think I ever have as a teacher. When people at work would comment about my weight lost, I would reply with ¨chasing 7th graders,¨ It wasn´t a wrong answer.

Ahem. I sprained my wrist Monday while doing yoga so no treadmill for me last night (hurt to do anything, much less try and put on my Ascis). I wrapped it up last night and iced it, and it seems to be doing better today.

I was talking to someone today about the weight loss success I made at the end of last year, and they asked me what had worked for me. First thing I thought of was this group. The support + accountability. So here I am, hoping to find that again.
It’s been a difficult six months for my family, having back to back tragedies. I fell back on emotional eating to cope, and then just could not find the motivation or drive to make changes. I hope being back here will do the trick. Last time I posted in February, I was 208.8. Scale last week was 218.1. Ouch. Starting off slow. I’m tracking all of my food and beverages, whether good or bad. Just to get back into the habit. Also trying to be more mindful of my choices.
Has anyone heard of or tried 75 Hard? I had an interesting discussion with a coworker about it yesterday, and I’m very intrigued. I’m going to talk to DH and see if he wants to do it with me. Its not a diet, but there would certainly be health benefits for me. And I like the idea of the challenge; I feel it will help me get into a solid routine and establish some really good habits. More to come.
Its great to see the progress you’ve all been making!!

I googled 75 Hard. Sounds interesting, and I like that it isn't super explicit. It seems to give you the groundwork, and you figure out what works for you. I doubt I would try it, but I can see where I could use some aspects of it. Like the exercise 45 minutes 2x/day. It is whatever type of movement you can do for 45 minutes. Though at this point, I would likely start at 45 minutes 1/day.

I found a way to "trick" myself into drinking more water. I had been hovering around 80oz/day, 5x 16oz bottles (the most common size sold in large packs, our well water is not very tasty). Switched to a 20oz bottle last week and have drank no less than 100oz/day.

Yesterday was a travel day which included three restaurant stops. I think DH and I will make some purchases at the grocery store today. We have been too overwhelmed to have our crap together, so we only brought healthy snacks; we didn't meal plan or bring food with us. We told ourselves we'd just figure it out. Well, we're 24 hours in, and two of our three meals were not healthy. Part of the problem is our current location--PNW coast. Not much in the way of food variety. By Friday evening, we'll be in Seattle, so we'll be able to find healthier restaurants and cafes.

Minnesotagirl7, I also Googled 75 Hard and found it interesting as well. I like the fact one can follow their current nutrition plan, and the fact there is apparently no cost to receive the information. I saved the info webpage to read later when I have more time. Wrist much better. Treadmill time this evening. Leaving for vacation next month and I need to ramp up the stamina.

Hi Kids! Sorry I haven't popped in here in awhile, but I really don't have anything new to report. I'm still staying in a 4-pound range of my lowest weight. Not sure if that's the best I'll do, or if I'm destined to lose more weight, but I won't complain. Nice to see all of you are doing well. Keep up the good work! P.S. Knee Deep in Water Chloe & Minnesotagirl7, I eat when I'm stressed out, too. Please don't let a bad day or two, or even a week or more of stress eating make you give up on yourself. We can do this!

Just a quick check in
Hit water and step goal.
Not so well on other goals.
Not sure what goals I should have. I need to work on getting better sleep.

Have fallen off the tracking wagon. Still just under 200lbs, and I know that I can do better. So my new goal is to track food, exercise, and vitamins.

Being under 200lbs is a very important milestone. Not only for your emotional wellbeing, but it also makes a huge difference for your body. The closer you get to 200lbs or under, the better your blood work will be, and you'll be healthier.

I haven't been exercising lately because I had the veins procedure last week. It's called schlerotherapy. I have to wear compression socks constantly for two weeks. I also walk around the house every couple of hours, but I can't exercise for a few more days.
I can tell by the way my clothes fit that my weight is still going down. The next doctor's appointment is August 17th, and the nurse will take my weight then.
At the moment, I'm being very careful about food because I can't exercise right now. So I can't burn any calories that way. For me, the two big game changers are exercise and dinner. Exercise not only helps me lose weight but also improves my mood and my self esteem. Dinner is usually my downfall. I would eat a whole McDonalds meal for dinner every night while watching Britbox if I could. Since I started skipping dinner and having a yogurt and a piece of fruit, or a bowl of soup, etc. that's when it made a difference. It's a struggle. I don't have much of a problem with a healthy breakfast or lunch, but dinner is when I generally fail and it's what makes the real difference for me.

Ava I switched to having my "dinner" meal at lunch. I can train myself to not eat later in the day, or at least just have a small healthy snack.

Been a decent week since re-joining here. I’ve tracked everything. Making better choices, but not the best. Scale down to 216.3 this morning. I pitched the idea to DH of doing some version of 75 Hard. He wasn’t overly receptive. Not going to let that derail my plan or enthusiasm. Going to nail down my version and start Sunday.

Minnesotagirl7 . I am glad his reaction didn't faze you. For years I'd been basically following a low carb lifestyle and ramped it up this past March for various reasons. During the entire time DH ate bread, sweets, etc. and even poohpoohed my suggestion of watching serving sizes. Only recently, after I'd lost the 20 this year, he started paying attention and making a few changes.

Delighted to report the treadmill made a difference and I finally broke through the plateau. Down 22.8 pounds since mid-January. Hang in there, everyone.

Went on vacation for a week and came back late last night. Up a pound from when we left. After being in massive transition since the end of April, we are finally living in our new house. Here’s to establishing a routine!

Because I am a numbers nerd, I looked back in my old nutrition journals (I choose not to call them diet journals) and discovered I haven't weighed this low since before getting this new computer. We're talking 2014 probably. I'll have to pull journals from my old CPU. Motivation to finally do that then finally take the old computer to the e-waste place. And I understand our journeys aren't just about the scale numbers. I feel better, have more energy, and certain health issues are improving.
