www.cnn.com/2021/12/28/sport/nfl-legend-john-madden-dies-spt/index.html(CNN)Hall of Famer John Madden, whose Oakland Raiders teams never had a losing season and a beloved football analyst for three decades, has died, the NFL said Tuesday night. Madden, 85, passed away unexpectedly in the morning, according to the league. "On behalf of the entire NFL family, we extend our condolences to (wife) Virginia, (son) Mike, (Son) Joe and their families," NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said. "We all know him as the Hall of Fame coach of the Oakland Raiders and broadcaster who worked for every major network, but more than anything, he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

woof, no. the best game of the year was always the Pro Bowl in Hawaii, bc he refused to fly. zero risk of having to listen to him as a commentator.
that said, he earned his accolades as a coach, and spent his career following up on that. may he RIP. 🥀

I became a Raiders fan watching Super Bowl 2. Yep I know they lost LOL but they caused me to give up my love of the Packers from that day forward. But Madden as an announcer drove me up the wall - I started muting TV when he was broadcaster - I could/can watch football without all the talking heads and that includes ALL announcers. I still watch football with no sound!! But should say I pretty much understand the game. I watched a show the other day (DVR) called 30 for 30 about Madden - very enlightening about the man himself. I deleted it out of my saved now wish I had kept it. Having said that - 30 for 30 is a good show about all sports teams, players, coaches and such. I also watched the one on Al Davis - ok sports nut is signing off!!

I think I saw that toward the end of The Two Bills that I watched last weekend - Belichick/Parcells and the road from New England to the Jets and back again.

I can't believe he lived as long as he did. he has always been overweight, and if you ever watched him on the sidelines, he was a hurricane of stress.
but I really loved him as a coach, and he is a pretty funny guy.
