The South has been warm. We were in the low 70s today until the rain and T-storms moved through (along with a tornado watch). About 70 degrees tomorrow and 75 Friday and Saturday. But severe weather Friday night and Saturday-probably a tornado watch overnight Friday. And then plunging temps. Maybe 35 degrees day temp Sunday. Bjg drop coming.

Yes. Warm weather in the winter in the south = tornados. Lucky us.
Spent about an hour last night in our tornado shelter watching the weather announcer track the path of a tornado that fortunately (for us, anyway) stayed south of us. Saturday is looking like the same, except the storms may be stronger - but right now the worst seems like it will go north of us, which would unfortunately take it over the same Kentucky area that got his hard recently. Not good, especially since most of the damaged structures haven’t been repaired yet, which means they won’t do so well in strong winds.
Everyone think positive thoughts for them.

We have had two tornadoes touch down and damage/kill people since I moved here in 1994. The first one was Thanksgiving weekend (Sunday) in '94. Among those killed were a co-worker's husband, brother and one of her twin sons. Instead of seeking shelter on the first floor, the three remained on the second floor playing pool. The other was in February 2008 on Super Tuesday, primary day. I have never seen a tornado on the ground but I did see a funnel cloud during a night time storm. I was able to see the funnel cloud when a bolt of lightning behind it back lit the funnel cloud. While tornadoes are obviously dangerous, the back lit funnel cloud was pretty cool.

I was able to see the funnel cloud when a bolt of lightning behind it back lit the funnel cloud. While tornadoes are obviously dangerous, the back lit funnel cloud was pretty cool. I watched the 2011 tornado pass through my back yard. The most surreal moment was when a big orange flapping thing ended up covering the kitchen window (we were sheltering in the kitchen pantry and too stupid to think to shut the pantry door) The orange flappy thing turned out to be a tarp that my neighbors used when they went camping and kept stored in their attic (until it blew away). Also in their attic was a fake Christmas tree, a branch of which went like a javelin through an upstairs window, and a second branch that stuck about 14 feet up in the side of the tulip poplar in our front yard. All it’s real limbs blew off so for a year or so that’s the only limb it had. Since then it regrew limbs but still has that one fake Christmas tree limb. Sad. That made me hyper aware of storms. Last Thursday a tornado touched down in Rainesville Al and the weather channel was interviewing some guy who decided it was a great idea to go to the grocery store during a tornado watch and ended up having to get into a shelter at a friends house when he got caught outside with one. Be weather aware, people!!!

Well this sucks. Starting last night, we finally have a temporary reprieve from the excess cold. Unfortunately sometime between closing last night and opening this morning, a pipe in the Men's room at DD's froze and burst. DD's off work for ?? because the restaurant flooded. Weird that it didn't happen when it was colder. I'm assuming there was some precaution they didn't take last night that they had been for the past 10+ days.
