People like to be entertained. That's why fox is popular. News can be boring. Truth is often hard to except. Of course fox will beat out real journalists. The problem arises when people don't see the difference.

I asked a question on another board: Wallace was a journalist, not an opinion hack. We all know that people like Hannity despise journalists. does FOX News have ANY Journalists left? I am actually SERIOUS about that question. I can't think of any. Neither can I. But the question is, do those talking heads at Fox claim to be journalists. I do not think they claim to be journalists. In fact, most tell you they are not journalists, and if you watched them, you would know this. I do not think Wallace always said he is a journalist in prefacing his remarks Now, since I have not watched MSNBC AND CNN for several years now, I will ask the following: 1. How many of their hosts are actual journalists? I used to watch Joe in the Morning faithfully five dats aweek until he fell under the loves spell of Mika The hosts will have "journalists" on for discussion purposes just as Fox commentators do. 2. What makes a journalist an actual honest political commentator rather than a person who also jumps the shark in describing the opposition such as all of the CNN commentators do?

The son running the company is not a rightwing conservative. CNN and MSNBC do have their share of full time liars spreading crap all day and night. How do I know? Fox provides the clips discussing it.

We have the POTD. Laughable. Believing Fox is telling the truth is like believing a vampire with blood dripping off his fangs claiming he didn't bite the woman he's kneeling over and claiming he didn't bite her.

After pleading with Meadows for Trump's help, these same Fox News hosts told their audiences that the siege on the U.S. Capitol wasn't Trump's fault, that it wasn't really a Trump riot and that Trump's coup is no threat to democracy. The texts revealed on Monday, however, prove that these folks have spent 11 months lying and gaslighting, and that not one of them believes a single word they say publicly about the attempted coup or the Capitol riot. "It wasn't real" directly contradicts "it was a glorious act of patriotism." But the seamless shifting between these two lies doesn't seem to rattle the Fox audience. Viewers aren't deluded or confused about what is going on. They watch because Fox News is propaganda. They know the riot was real and that it was an attempt to overthrow the government. What they seek from Fox News is to learn the official party line — or lines — that they can use when lying online or to the people in their lives. Fox viewers shouldn't be viewed as innocent dupes, but as active participants in an effort to rewrite reality and stand up a fake story that justifies the insurrection. www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/jan-6-committee-just-proved-fox-news-knowingly-lies-on-air-but-don-t-expect-their-viewers-to-care/ar-AAROpsvFox news is the US equivalent to a terrorist organization radicalizing the base. If those text messages did not reveal that, there is no hope for this country. They knew who was responsible for the seize on the Capitol. And Mr Law and Order President sat there and let it continue. The spinning and gaslighting they have spewed this week is unbelievable. Rationalizing an attack on democracy by sayinig "oh everybody does it, fox news plays the clips" confirms to me how radicalized they are. This was an attack to OVERTURN AN ELECTION.

not even a day ago, I pointed out that Hannity despises journalists. he doesn't seem like a self loather to me.

I know it is really low. it is funny watching you shill for the American Sliderule Company. hopefully you know better than to invest in it.
edit: I was off by a factor of THREE. pathetic.
just so everyone realizes HOW pathetic ALL CABLE NEWS IS, COMBINED, the TOTAL audience is about 1/3 that of the crime show NCIS.
pathetic. I don't even know why this thread exists. it is like discussing the sexual proclivities of Coors lovers. WHO.....CARES?

What makes a journalist an actual honest political commentator rather than a person who also jumps the shark in describing the opposition such as all of the CNN commentators do? I watch FOX news about as often as CNN and MSNBC. almost never. I use them to lull me to sleep on business trips.
but to answer your question, let's look at CNN. i have NO IDEA, to be honest with you. but you got me curious.
so, CNN has SIXTY SIX anchors and hosts. that is a problem right there. with so many talking heads, it is hard for audiences to focus:
www.cnn.com/specials/tv/anchors-and-reporters
i am going to start at the top of the list and review the first SIX in alphabetical order:
ACOSTA: masters in communication but no journalism degree AMANPOUR: summa c*u*m laude journalism BECKY ANDERSON: masters in communication but no journalism degree ARDUINO: journalism degree ASHER: journalism degree AVLON: no journalism or communications degree
so, i would guess based on this that CNN has roughly 33 journalists working for them. and if the next question is "why does it even matter", the answer is that journalists are trained to have ethical standards. and yes, that really does matter. because opinion hacks and "reporters" are not. they are mostly entertainers. the role of ombudsmen in reporting is important, and outlined in this article about Chris Cuomo:
www.theguardian.com/media/2021/aug/15/chris-cuomo-cnn-ethical-troubles-info-tainment-journalism
this ombudsman points out that corralling "commentators" is pointless. they are never going to follow journalistic ethical standards, because they simply don't believe them, and despise those that do. and that is why our news is going down the shitter. because opinion by entertainers is displacing journalism. and that is REALLY BAD for the USA. REALLY BAD. generally, shithole countries KILL their journalists. here, we just fire them, and replace them with Barbie and Ken.
so, if you are asking me to choose between a network whose hosts proudly boast that they are NOT journalists, and one that has 50% of on news personnel with a journalism degree, i am going for door number 2, thanks. and i would do so if they had TWENTY viewers. i don't eat poop, and i don't watch it, either.
NOTE: as i have said before, i think that network news is a waste of time. but it should be noted that the average CNN viewer watches or reads something like five OTHER sources as part of their news diet. so, don't go thinking that CNN is a cult in the way that FOX is. it isn't.
and yeah, i used that word, again.

confession: i have seen Amanpour sometime in the last year and i found her very professional, believable. straightforward, restrained, and thorough. i consume far more NPR, however, because i can listen to it in my car while i drive. i really don't have time to sit around some feed trough and have news forcefed down my throat by some entertainer. but i do it as a substitute for Valium when i can't fall asleep in some strange city.

If CNN and MSNBC were combined into one channel, the ratings more than likely would be a bit different between Fox and the hypothetical new channel.

It's just that there is no benefit to reading a pointless thread between you and somebody continuing to try to BS a point while being either too dumb or twisted to realize there is no point to be made. Besides, I said everything I needed to back in #14. A little advice, if I may? It rarely takes more than one post to dismiss a VB thread. If you are often spending more than that you may indeed want a new hobby after all. Pretty much anything would be more fulfilling, I would guess.

Just because someone has a journalism degree does not make them emotionallly nonbiased individuals. Couple of the people on your list, I do not follow. AMANPOUR, I agree she is good and probably as fair as the come, but she was used more for reporting from the crisis situations. ACOSTA, sorry although not a journalist he was one of the leftwingers carrying the Russian collusion case to the bitter end, and even after the last report came out saying ,oops, sorry about that one he carried on with it..... Asher, i have to google,

Don't you think the "left" watches CNN and MSNBC to be entertained also, or at the least to reinforce their own political beliefs? 100%. CNN is garbage. I don't watch MSNBC, but I won't argue against it having garbage status. One problem I do have is that many people consider the 3 national networks to be "hard left, liberal propaganda" - and once someone whips that shit out, I know our conversation is pointless. We basically watch either NBC or ABC National Nightly news. We do have to watch the news to stay informed even when mislead by them. hard left liberal agenda.........you can tell where the networks stand/stood when they spend 12 minutes on their opening on various alleged issues congress was investigating and not mention how good the economy was, etc, and now you get the 11 minutes opening on how well Build Back better is and how great Biden has been for the nation.

Are they pushing communism, a people’s revolution, running commercials for the Socialist Workers Party? Asking for donations for ALF and ELF? I’m confused.

That is the present Democratic party. By the way, "Hard Left" was not my quote. I pulled it from a response to me. I will say the three National news stations do lean very left and always promote the daily plablum that the WH puts out to their democratic politicians that they want pushed on citizens.

Are they pushing communism, a people’s revolution, running commercials for the Socialist Workers Party? Asking for donations for ALF and ELF? I’m confused. Meh. VB is just another graduate of the Windy City School of Hyperbole. Not an accredited school anywhere in the world. Much like trump University.

Ahh, yeh. That is the present Democratic party. By the way, "Hard Left" was not my quote. I pulled it from a response to me. I will say the three National news stations do lean very left and always promote the daily plablum that the WH puts out to their democratic politicians that they want pushed on citizens. They only lean "very left" of your opinion - not of the collective American citizens.
