In a nostalgic mood... Does anyone else remember the Club Car lock? Did you have one? Anyone you know have one? Do you (or anyone you know) still use one? I never had one it seemed kind of silly to me...

Thieves have figured out how to steal many Hyundai Santa Fe's and Sonatas and many Kias (other cars too) that have electronic ignitions.
Police Department have been giving these out to combat thieves.
The daughter of a friend of ours nearly had her car stolen last summer, but for some reason they did not take it. They broke a window and broke the steering column though. DH got her a club from the MKE police to put on her steering wheel.
We have a Santa Fe, but ours is not one of the affected models, so we don't use a club.

I have one from 4 cars ago.
I bought it when I “stole” the car from my ex-husband and he wasn’t making the payments. I had started working for the bank that had financed the car and my name was on the loan.
I was getting around in my grandfather’s old beater and it didn’t have a/c. One Saturday afternoon in the summer, I was taking my kids to the movies and DS, about 3yo, was in the backseat sweating buckets and looking miserable, and kept saying “Mommy, I’m hot” in a little pitiful voice.
I got SO mad, thinking about their uglass Dad riding around in the car with a/c and not even paying the car note. After we left the movies, I went and bought a Club. Then I went home and figured out how to use it. I changed into leggings and tennis shoes and called and asked my bestie to meet me at my Grandmother’s house to take me to get the car. I left the kids at my Grandmother’s house. My Mom was there too.
When we got to my ex’s parents’ house, the car was on the street, he and his stepbrother were in the front yard. Before he realized what I was up to, I’d hopped out of Bestie’s car and hopped into ours. And Bestie had pulled in front of the driveway, blocking stepbrother’s car in until I left.
They still showed up at my Grandmother’s house right after I did. I’d barely got the Club locked on the steering wheel before he opened the car door. I was so nervous, my hands were shaking. I’d called and told my Mom I was on my way back, so she was on the porch when I got there. Grandma had the kids in the back of the house, distracted, so they wouldn’t know anything was going on, in case it got ugly.
Ex told my Mom to tell me to give him the car back. She said “Nope” and kept standing on the porch, waiting to see what he was going to do.
I had another trick up my sleeve. Stepbrother was on probation in another state, he wasn’t even supposed to have been out of that state. So I ignored Ex and told Stepbrother “I suggest you leave and take your brother with you, because I’m about to call the police”. And started dialing on my cell phone. Stepbrother told ex “c’mon man, we gotta go”.
I locked that Club on the steering wheel every single time I got out of the car, even if I was just pumping gas. It was a PITA, but I didn’t want him to be able to get the car back the way I’d gotten it from him lol.

I drive a sick. No one knows how to drive one anymore so no one would steal it. I learned how to drive a stick when my grandfather bought me one in high school. The first 2 cars I bought myself were sticks. I still kind of miss driving one. I’d like to have an old stick shift sports car or muscle car one day. My first car was old and slow as molasses, but I could make the tires squeal on take off. Soon as I got going though, the fun was over lol. My Godfather taught me how to make it start with a dead battery. That knowledge came in handy more than once during my years driving sticks.

My 'garage car' is a sports car with a stick. Modified for racing. It's old but very fast!

It seems that car jacking is the way to steel cars in my area - so the thieves have you get out of your car (or try to get your keys after you've opened the car door). The car jackers are usually a couple/three people (based on ring videos and street cameras . That and if you leave your vehicle running unattended - you won't have a car when you get back. For unattended vehicles - if it's not locked - someone will go thru the stuff in your in car (lots of ring videos showing a couple people walking down the street trying car doors - when they find an open one - they help themselves to whatever you have in your car. Also for unattended vehicles (like parked on the street) catalytic converters are often removed. I was reading the local police reports - and it looked like most stolen cars (that were not car jackings or vehicles left running) were done by family members or someone the car owner knew. I don't think I've ever owned a car that someone would want to work to steal. I'm sure if I left it running and unattended someone would take it - an easy theft of opportunity.

If I’m ever near wherever you live and I get a chance to meet you, maybe you’ll take me for a ride in your ‘garage car’. My biggest “want” besides traveling is to have a powerful car from the 60’s. If I win the lottery, that would be my first purchase lol.

I had a Club in the 1990s and that I used while at work. Let my boss use the truck one day and when I got ready to go home I discovered he had taken the Club apart and wound it around the steering wheel. Then he stood and laughed while I messed with it.
I had to give up stick shift in 2001 because my left knee went out. Took a long time for me to stop automatically 'stepping on the clutch' when coming to a stop.
Memories ..............
