I will still eat some expensive or not. The quality there will be much better to what we can get here. I'm a New England shoreline seafood restaurant snob. Fresh seafood is very important. Where I live Red Lobster is the place for seafood. I've eaten there several times and was never impressed.

There is a fabulous seafood restaurant in Seattle we go to for special occasions. The prices are outrageous, but it is soooo good. It has been a few years since we dropped $$ there. www.rays.com/boathouse/boathouse-menu/

Frequently eat things caught that day

I'm allergic to sulfites in food among other things. A quick scan of the allergen list for Red Lobster two years ago revealed the only thing I could eat was steak and there might have been a chicken dish that didn't have added soy protein.
My niece and nephew wanted us to go with them. We passed after I checked that out. I do kind of like the biscuits but the mix you can buy had something I was allergic to last I checked.
With the sulfite allergy I'm super picky about where I eat seafood.

Have never been thru their doors since. But like you being New England seafood snob I am a Gulf Coast seafood snob. I have eaten good seafood around the country but it's where seafood is local and not shipped in. And have said before but my favorite son fishes every other year in Alaska but he can't provide me with fresh lump crab or shrimp I've had friends tell me what they pay for shrimp, etc. I would have to become a true vegetarian at those prices

Their prices seem more reasonable for size than what I pay for frozen shrimp at Kroger. And I have issues with what Kroger considers Medium, Large, X-Large and Jumbo. If the bag say X-Large, the shrimp are more medium size to me. Medium look more like salad-sized shrimp (small). Biloxi Shrimp Company

Red Lobster was one of the first places DD and I ate after covid. We won't go back either, the quality has really gone downhill. It was somewhat questionable long ago but now forget it.

Yet Red Lobster is very popular here in Memphis. These poor souls who think RL is great have never had fresh and local seafood. Kind of like pizza. Pizza Hut is often rated the best pizza in Memphis, citizens here have never traveled to pizza meccas like Chicago, NYC and New Haven, CT (my particular favorite place for pizza).

I also do not understand people who think the Olive Garden is good Italian food. If that is my option for Italian is, I would rather stay home and cook Italian ourselves. Quality would be much better.

I and friends could often walk to some of the best Pizzerias in New Haven. I also lived on Wooster Square which was one block over from Wooster Street where Pepe's and Sally's were located. Year after year, at least two New Haven pizzerias are listed in the top ten pizza joints in the country.

We do have an excellent Italian eatery in town, the owner is Italian, good food, good prices. Just to fattening for DD and I. We eat there rarely but its good.
In the interior of the country not much good seafood. However, if you can get smelts fresh they are from the Great Lakes and very good. This years have been some of the best.
At the Woodlands in Texas was a great seafood market. I bought fresh tuna and canned it, can never eat store bought tuna again. They had all types of wonderful fresh fish. At the Mexican grocer, Fiesta, could buy fresh fish from the tank and have them cleaned. Wonderful
I sure miss the good ethnic foods from down there. We used to have good food and cooks around here, no more. Everything comes from one of those frozen, processed places like Sysco or one of those, awful.

Pepe's has expanded significantly, and is all over Southern NE and parts of Westchester. Do not get to go as often as we like, and I cannot pass up the Clam pizza. Sally's sold to an investor prior to the pandemic, with plans to expand like Pepe's. Have to see if that is still the plan.

The owner and I even had a discussion about New Haven pizza. He was very familiar with the pizzerias in New Haven. He even mentioned the white clam pizza. His store makes a good white pizza. I have in the past ordered one and I added canned chopped clams to the top and reheated it. Not quite the same but not bad.

Living in the Upper Midwest, I'm perfectly happy with Red Lobster. It would be wonderful to have the fresh seafood that you folks on the coasts get, but you can't get much farther from either coast than the Twin Cities. Of course there are better, more expensive seafood restaurants here. The almond crusted scallops at Kincaid's are really good. But that's more of a special occasion restaurant.

I live in the coast near a processing plant for expensive local seafood. I used to send my supplies a gift box when they went out of their way to help me. Sadly, that is now considered bribery and I can't do it anymore.

We had the world's best seafood. We liked to fish, clam and oyster gather. He refused all old seafood so wouldn't eat grocery store seafood except shrimp, but we got them and ate them on a boat before in hood's canal. I would buy live lobsters and crab, crab fresh off the boat when at the beach. He would boil them and be eating them minutes later. My dad didn't like old fish either, we fished then they went on ice and were cleaned and eaten the same day. He hated that people didn't put them on ice and left them all day before taking them home. Once we were fishing a lake near my parents house so I put a live trout in a 5 gallon bucket and took it to dad. He didn't want it so mom was going to eat it, she put it in the sink but it was moving so she didn't want to kill it. ISO killed it for her. Live crayfish, and other fresh caught seafood is the best. We got 24 tuna in three days that is about 96lbs of tuna and I got a big halibut once when I go on charter boats. I grew up with fresh fish, dad caught mostly trout and salmon. I see dead trout in the store and think why?
