I was just at the grocery store and the king crab legs were $45/lb!!!! I spent all my food stamps on them. But seriously, I usually serve them at Christmas. I don’t think that is happening this year.

I don't eat seafood. What did they used to cost? Well, that depends on where you live. We can get them off the boat, so often only $10/lb around here.

One of the better restaurants has 12 crab legs for $34 according to the menu currently online.
Yikes, though!Frozen Alaskan King are $45/pound at the "good" grocery store. The "normal" crab legs are $12/pound.

I think I'm glad I don't care for seafoods or fish! Buying beef is bad enough right now.

I'm glad I filled up on my Alaskan cruise this past August, on the night they had crab legs on the menu. DS loves them and so did my older granddaughter when we had them at a restaurant- her sister was less than a year old and they aren't supposed to try it at that age but I bet she'd like it too. I wouldn't be surprised if their 2-year old brother liked them. It could get expensive! DDIL doesn't even like the smell, though.

I looked an 8 legs are $26.99. It doesn't say how many pounds it is, but it was just 2 small looking clusters, so maybe one tops.

How many pounds does it take to make an average meal (I don’t eat them so not familiar)? If most of the pound is shell, do you need like 2 pounds per person? Yikes!

Best Thanksgiving meal I ever had was at a friend's home located in a town on Long Island Sound. While his girlfriend prepared the traditional turkey spread, my friend and I went out on his boat to check his lobster traps. Lobster for an appetizer.
There were plenty of legal sized lobsters in his traps so we took them home. Boiled/steamed them and served with drawn butter. We were so full of lobster we had little room left for turkey and the trimmings. I went home with a number of full Tupperware containers.

When I last bought king crab for TD and myself, I bought a over 3 lbs thinking it was too much. It wasn’t. Rest of dinner was a salad and baguette.

I don't buy the legs, but I do buy jumbo lump for crab cakes. Or I did until the price hit $60 per pound. Now I buy enough for DH and I eat something else. Fortunately, October begins stone crab season, which isn't cheap, but it is a renewable food source. I have them with a small tray of snails with garlic butter as my night-before-Thanksgiving meal.

I bought Dungeness lump crab last spring to make a pot of whisky crab soup. I think I got it for $40/lb at Costco. I think the Cliff House makes it better, but they are no more. sublime-living.blogspot.com/2014/09/whiskey-crab-soup-recipe-pacific-nw.html

I just got back from visiting my sister in Seattle and we paid $15 each for Central Market's dungeness crab cakes. Oh, they were good! I was just shopping at Costco here in the Twin Cities yesterday and noticed that their 1-lb. containers of lump crab meat are $40 each. Oh my. I think they were maybe $30 last year, and I know that at one time they used to be $20. I typically buy two 1-lb containers of lump crab meat for New Year's Eve. I spend New Year's Eve at my brother's and make a seafood casserole and crab cakes, each recipe requiring one pound of crab meat. For feeding the seven of us, it's well worth it.

Might have to make this over the holidays. I actually have some very good, very old whiskey I inherited. Neither of us drinks it, but sacrificing it for soup could be a worthwhile endeavor.

I just got back from Costco and saw the Dungeness lump crab in the case….$50. This soup might be Plan B for NYE this year.

Word on the street is global warming is impacting the King and Snow crab harvests in the Bering Sea off Alaska. Not good news for us PNW types. Have always done a surf and turf Christmas Eve dinner with King legs. Maybe this year we go Dungy and have the beef Christmas Day. Paid $25 per for Bay Dungeness on the Oregon coast a month ago. Took 5 to feed the 4 of us as they weren’t filled out but were delish.

I hope when I get up to Washington I can eat a bunch of crab legs or lobster, love them both. Need to be careful though, allergic to oysters and fear one day the other will get me too. But I sure like them, been a long time since I've had any.
We had fries and shrimp tonight with salad, a good meal.

I will still eat some expensive or not. The quality there will be much better to what we can get here.
