Um....no. absolutely not. I don't want to waste my time listening to uninvited voice-mail messages. Former Senator Asks FCC to Allow Unlimited Ringless Voicemail RobocallsFormer U.S. Senator David Perdue, a Georgia Republican, is requesting the Federal Communications Commission to potentially allow unlimited ringless voicemail robocalls to show up on U.S. citizens' phones. On Wednesday, Perdue's campaign submitted a proposal that would allow political campaigns, charities, businesses and robocall spammers to leave unlimited voicemail messages, per the approval of the FCC. Additionally, the proposal would allow voicemails to be sent to millions of phones that are covered under federal law to dismiss robocalls. Complete article here: link

Wait. What I get pre-recorded messages on my cell phone - Vanessa keeps calling and leaving me a message about my soon to expire extended warrantee on my car. And then there's the nice woman who wants to help me lower my interest rate on my credit card debt. Do people even listen to their voice messages on their cell phones? most people Text. Is this a step that's needed to allow robo texts? But, I already get those - realtors and political one. I'm guessing there's more to the "unlimited ringless" messages than just their ability to fill up a voice mail box with trash. What else does this effect?

As any VM’s left have a specific phone number attached, at least on my iPhone, I can instantly tell whether I want to listen or not. That being said....Perdue is obviously shilling and is a jerk wad anyway. So this should be ignored by all.

Verizon has the neat filter. It's called neighborhood or something. Anyway it cuts out about 95% of those car warranty and other calls that spoof a number to look similar to yours to get you to answer.

I simply swipe left on any number that's not a contact, unless I'm expecting a call. Hell, I even swipe left on the people I know. I'll listen to the voicemail and then decide when to call back.

Hmm, now I know why I have such trouble calling people to let them know their holds have arrived at the library! I thought it was just people who didn't know how to use/set-up a cell phone (and refused to switch to email notification). Just don't complain you never got the message to pickup your requested items! I tried, honest.

They asked that we enter all the phone numbers into their phone's contact list so the patients know who is calling them. Teen persuasion: how do your library customers put their names on a hold book list? Is it in person? If in person, could you mass photo copy a message with the library's name and phone number(s) and hand out to the library patron which states you will call them when the book they requested comes in and that they put your library name and phone number in their cell phone contact list so they know who is calling them?

I leave my VM on my phone FULL. Me too. Anyone that knows me knows to text me. If they need to speak to me, they can ask me to call them. My VM is full, and 100% of the calls are spam, mortgage companies trying to get me to refi, or charities asking me to donate more than I already do.

We go thru about 8-10 books a week between us...unless we are reading the same books.

A medical group I visit every three years sent out an email to all their existing patients with all the phone numbers they might call from to their patients. Teen persuasion: how do your library customers put their names on a hold book list? Is it in person? Lots of ways to place a hold: in person, by phone, or thru our online public access catalog (OPAC). There's the option to receive email notification for holds (as well as early reminder of due dates, and overdue notices) if you provide your email address; as long as an email is in your record, notification is automatic. That's why it's our favorite. I've convinced most patrons to goto email notification, but our oldest patrons haven't adopted email, so want the phone calls. Many still have landline here, we do because cell service is poor in the boonies. But it's shifting over time, if you add a cell phone, you eventually drop the landline. The last to adopt aren't tech savvy. Your idea is a good one, but might still be beyond some of them. Of course, even the email notification has its drawbacks. I'm not sending them out, they are generated by Central for the entire system. But it's a no-reply system. Invariably a few patrons get the courtesy "your items will be due in 2 days - please return or renew" email and hit reply to ask to renew. A few days later I get a nasty-gram from the email spooler that an email bounced back to them, and it's forwarded to me. I can't blame patrons for hitting reply on it, that's normally how email works, and there's no warning on the email tagging it no-reply. I've begged M at Central to just add a line at the bottom of the form. Nope, no can do! Can we at least put a hyperlink to the OPAC, where they could renew it themselves online? Nope.

Received a text message yesterday asking me if I was 'Tennesseer'. I replied yes I was and asked who was texting me. They replied they were interested in buying my home. There was a Stop option from receiving future texts. I typed STOP.
I still don't want these types of text message. No less intrusive than dumb-assed phone calls.

Thank you - that's helpful, if you identify yourself. But usually the subset that do this greet me with "Hey, you called me?" Umm, yeah, I called a dozen different people in the last hour. Which one are you? Or should I just guess?

I got my cell number while in the military, 2000 miles from home. I haven’t lived there in 16 years but still have the same number. Because most of the Spam calls come from the same area code as the. Phone number, it is easy to ignore them. I will answer if I see an unknown call from my current area code, as it is usually legit (am now about 1500 miles from the area code where my phone number is based) 😀

Have a friend who complained about having to answer all calls because of calls from doctors, insurance co. I asked her why she didn't add those numbers to her contact list since she at least knew they were legit. She didn't know how! So every time she got a legit call she would let me know and I would add to her contacts. I finally showed her enough times that she can do it own her own now. I like the way your medical group thinks!!! As for library, I place holds online. I have call me when book in but have landline number listed. My caller ID shows that it is the Library. They will leave VM if I don't pickup. I can also go online and check to see if book ready for pickup. One day I will probably get around to giving cell number but just don't think about it since it isn't a problem.

I created a contact in my phone for the texter's name and their phone number. Once created, I then blocked the contact from ever calling/texting me again.

I recently changed phone plans. I now have Scam Shield which automatically blocks calls which it considers "Scam Likely." I rarely carry my phone and don't answer most calls anyway, but now it doesn't allow all of the voicemails from these marketing entities or scammers either.

Questionable incoming phone numbers are often flagged with Potential Spam. I don't answer. I do check though to see if they left a message. Other numbers are outright blocked by Verizon.

Here's a different take. Hiker lost on US mountain ignored calls from rescuers because he didn’t recognise the numberA man who became lost for 24 hours while hiking on Colorado’s highest mountain ignored repeated phone calls from rescue teams because they came from an unknown number, authorities say. The hiker was reported missing around 8pm on 18 October after failing to return to where he was staying, Lake county search and rescue said. Repeated attempts to contact the man through calls, texts and voicemail messages went ignored, according to a statement released by the agency. Complete article here: link
