only eggheads and communists read the fine print, tallguy. Well, I'm certainly not a communist. The other...? Well, I do try to balance my tendencies! Mostly I just hate seeing people distort the discussion. It's easy enough to make a case using just true statements, if truth is what you are interested in.

I hate anecdotes. I really do. I am so tired of people saying "I saw a woman at Vons buying caviar with food stamps" as a case against welfare. if you want to make a case against welfare, don't use your own stupid observations about it to make it. make it on the basis that it is ineffective, inefficient, or some other SYSTEMIC variable.
as much as I am sorry for a certain poster not having as much retirement money at the end of the day, using that as a GENERAL case for ALL retirees is a fundamentally flawed argument. simply say "this happened to me" OR say "this happened to me, and here are the statistics which show that it happened to 1M other retirees". otherwise, it is just you getting pissed off at Vons.

All issues real, imagined, or just plain invented will be laid at the feet of Biden. I just saw Tucker blaming the fiscal 2020 Trump/Repo-Con deficit on Joe. I’m sure it was sucked up by all the FAUX heads that don’t realize he fake newsed them all. They will now be ranting about that the idiots. What is the song that has the tyrics "In your Head" "In your Head"? Tucker is in your head....... As much as everyone loves to call me a Trumpette, etc, I do not watch Tucker or Hannity. I do watch Fox cable in the morning segment, and wish I had time for the 9 to 11 segment but do not. Faithful to the Five, and try to catch Gutfeld! a couple of times a week but that is it Zombie, by the Cranberries - about two children killed by bombs in the Irish Troubles. Zombie Lyrics [Verse 1] Another head hangs lowly Child is slowly taken And the violence caused such silence Who are we mistaken? [Pre-Chorus] But you see, it's not me, it's not my family In your head, in your head, they are fightin' With their tanks and their bombs and their bombs and their guns In your head, in your head, they are cryin' [Chorus] In your head, in your head Zombie, zombie, zombie-ie-ie What's in your head, in your head? Zombie, zombie, zombie-ie-ie-ie, oh [Post-Chorus] Du, du, du, du Du, du, du, du Du, du, du, du Du, du, du, du [Verse 2] Another mother's breakin' Heart is takin' over When the violence causes silence We must be mistaken [Pre-Chorus] It's the same old theme, since 1916 In your head, in your head, they're still fightin' With their tanks and their bombs and their bombs and their guns In your head, in your head, they are dyin' [Chorus] In your head, in your head Zombie, zombie, zombie-ie-ie What's in your head, in your head? Zombie, zombie, zombie-ie-ie-ie, oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh, eh-eh-oh, ra-ra

My niece is a Nurse Married to another Nurse. Her DH is currently travel nursing in Florida. He was on a 7 or 8 week contract, but she said they are ending it a week early - because they say conditions have improved and they no longer need the travelrs. DN said that her husband has been making so much that he alone makes what both of them used to make together. They have 2 small children, I think their baby is just about 6 months old. She just works on call right now maybe 1 day a week or every other week from what I understood.
So, when they do the travel nursing, depending on how far you are from home, the amount they give you covers your housing in your new location too. They were doing the travel nursing before the pandemic started, so it is not new, but the need exploded. She said he now plans to work at a local hospital, he will get higher than normal pay, but his housing will not be covered b/c the hospital he will be working at now will be about 10 minutes from home.
All this to say, I am figuring that not just Medicare, but all insurance plans will go up a pretty steep amount next year to cover the increase in costs hospitals have had to bear over the last year. We haven't had an increase in over 4 years, and it is doubtful it will be equal to the 5.9% SS recipients are getting.

My sister's neighbors are both nurses (husband and wife) and doing this same thing. The money is tremendous, but they also acknowledge the travel and hours are so hard on them. They have no children so easy for them to do this. Sometimes they are required at a moment's notice to appear half the country away when they accept the contract, but I assume that is their choice by agreeing to the timeline. Never thought about increased hospital costs being passed on to insurance and patients................When you think about it, this is scary for them as they do not know how really bad the situation will be in different hospitals. Has to be mentally exhausting. One thing to do this in your local hospital, but living out of hotels and walking into various situations, is something I would not want to do.

They don’t live in hotels-they usually sign a contract for 4-6 months and rent an apartment. My brother owns a house in Orlando that is rented on something like VRBO, he agreed in advance to do this gig, and they blocked off the use of the house. Niece flew alone with 2 year old and 6 month old 2x (she came back to WI last week for her SIL’s baby shower), She was heading back to FL this week. My brother and SIL were there at least a week, and My other niece, her husband (works from home) and 2 kids were there a week too. House is at least 4 bedrooms, may be bigger idk. Brother bought house when pandemic started.
My niece’s house is a $400,000 house, nice for this area. So they pay for their existing house, and living accommodations where he is working. The pay scale is set up to account for that.
