I've been to 3 stores so far & can't find a T-bone any place. And there was a "new to me label" on some sirloin steak...it was 'filet of sirloin'. I bought that & it was fine, just like normal sirloin. Also, in many areas there are shortages of saltine crackers. With the crazy weather, a lot more folks are eating soups. There have been outages of other items, but they generally show up a week or so later...so no biggy. Who can afford T Bone? I agree about the description of cuts of red meat. There are names on some cuts I have never heard of in the counter. Try buying what looks like a beef "rump roast" or of for the life of me, what labeled a chuck roast. Look at the pasta sections. Spaghetti of all things is almost non existent. Evidently the consumer is trading down to the basics, and the pasta sections are empty days at a time Saltine crackers seemed to disappear at New Year's for the most part. I think that was because Nabisco seemed to be in short supply of the various party type crackers so people were forced to downgrade for the parties.

Okay, we had not major grocery shopped in about eight days and went yesterday. Some of our basic items were over ten percent higher regular priced than last trip. Milk was down about $.20 a gallon, and eggs were down $.40 dz, so there is that. Spent $125 for nothing out of everyday use, and that was up from $105 The usual stuff inside the middle of the store was basically higher, and meat was way up per lb, produce prices for potatoes were much higher. Add styrofoam plates to the shortage, but hey, we use plates and wash them anyway. One exception was for the give away everyday price of boneless chicken breasts which are still $1.99 lb, a bargain. People are pissed at the Dollar store going to $1.25

The dollar tree's highest price has been $1 for like 20 years. Some things were 2 or 3 for $1 back then, but $1 was the highest price point. Did people really think think that would NEVER change? I am shocked that it lasted this long.

I was at the dollar store last night - I needed a new bottle of Spic N Span (or other general purpose cleaner) and some aluminum 9 * 13 one use baking pans. The price did go up to 1.25 (not sure what the actual name of the "dollar store" is... we all just call them all "dollar store" and then the location.
I'm with daisylu - I'm kind of amazed the $1 prices held as long as they did (at least 5 years here - when the dollar stores moved in...)
For the most part - the "dollar store" botttle of Spic N Span and the aluminum baking pans I bought are still tremendously cheaper at $1.25 pre item.
That .25 increase across the board was a tough pill to swallow - I bought 7 items all together and the $1.75 increase was surprising... I had a mental tally of $7.00 and tax - not 8.75 and tax...

Yep a 25% inflation rate! But darn, check out the prices of birthday cards, and some are name brand ones! I figure if I buy one every time I go there, I beat the inflation game all the time!

I need to hit up Dollar Tree and get some more aluminum foil pans. I've used all but one that I had. We have a bake sale the end of this month, so I'll use that one and possibly one more.

My director discussed this in one of our weekly meetings. Even though the dock workers were working 3rd shift, the truck drivers who were needed to haul stuff away were not, so there wasn't anything to do for them. (I could be wrong on the specifics here, as that meeting was months ago, but it was along those lines.) yeah. the truck drivers refused to show up until 8AM, i think (they stop picking up at 4AM). but i am pretty sure that DID get resolved. Yes, truckers were the problem. Is the law to only allowing union truckers to work the dock areas still in place?
