Just checked Hoosier lottery. $620,000,000 Saturday! Got to invest another two dollars in a ticket without one number being hit. Five draws in a row without one number!

I also never look at the jackpot. I look at the cash value times .63 to account for the max donation to my Uncle Sam (no state bite taken here). I figure I can plan on that amount to daydream spend. That $620,000,000 would be closer to $281,000,000 take home. Still a satisfactory fantasy.

From the link: If you win the jackpot, consult a good accountant and tax attorney for ways to minimize your tax liability — before you claim the prize. Also consider donating a substantial amount to the owner of this website, because he gave you such great advice when you needed it most. Not sure how "substantial", but would have to give him something.

Florida lottery and still has not updated. Just checked Hoosier lottery. $620,000,000 Saturday! Got to invest another two dollars in a ticket without one number being hit. Five draws in a row without one number! I never invest in lottery. I buy a ticket for the entertainment I get thinking about how to spend the money. Yeh, I get it. As an invester, I have to admit lotteries are a losing proposition. I have to tell myself it is an investment that becomes a windfall. Sitting at home dreaming about what we would do with the pot does give some comic relief, but in reality would turn into a mental emergency in about two days wondering what do we really do now that we won it. The great thing about the larger pots, there are usually multiple winners cutting the win by a half or a third limiting the mental stress. I think we could all live with a $200,000,000 problem. Lump sum would be somewhere around 125,000,000 to 150,000,000?? The first thing I would want to do is invite Billisonboard and dj to a sitdown discussion in person. I think it would be very interesting and a valuable mental exercise for me. Not sure if either of them would get anything out of it from me, but whatever...... Then $50,000,000 put into various longterm investments to grow the pot, in a solid trust of course. Ten million spread around to various foodbanks. Ten million to tunnel to towers Ten milllion to a specific group building housing in a specific city I will not mention for underpriveleged families What do you tip to the clerk who sold you the winning numbers? Now there is a problematic number to come up with imo Ten million to various mental health organizations, of which at this time I have no clue who is the most worthy for the money......... Ten million spread around buying old hospital bills relieving people of their debt. The ten million would be two million a yr over five years so we are positive it is being used wisely. Still leaves $25,000,000 to $50,000,000 to play with, so a few more charities ?? Love typing the numerals rather than ten million dollars, as it keeps it real for me. At our current age, the $200,000 sports cars and ten million dollar homes are not necessary, and the boys, grandkids and great grandkids would be set up for their futures. Would have to worry about that one as the Democrats will come after all that free money soon. you know, "you did not earn that (not that that matters to them) but the government lottery gave it to you" excuse. Not one penny to any politician or political party. (might have to rethink that one, if I can find a real conservative politician) Bills is correct we can all get some entertainment out of it. Dream on..........

the $200,000 sports cars and ten million dollar homes are not necessary, But meeting family when they fly into a tropical location on a private jet in a top of the line electric SUV and taking them to my estate with a separate guest cottage (with its own pool) sounds fun. Plus they might enjoy that $200,000 sports car to travel about the island when they are visiting - and I could use it occasionally also.

I have a mild recollection from many years ago of someone writing in to a newspaper financial columnist. The letter started, "I have been investing in the lottery for quite a few years...." It went on (I think) to ask when that investment would likely pay off. The columnist answered along the lines of, "You were NOT investing in the lottery. You were SPENDING!" Amazing how people can delude themselves when they really want to. Look at politics, for another example. I very rarely buy tickets myself, but if I did I would almost certainly still be playing on the state's money. Hit five of six once. I considered it the state's wedding present to me.

I have my plan all laid out...first I take care of family by setting up trust funds that they can't touch the principal, they can only collect the interest/profit once a year. They will not be able to come to us for $$ at any time after the trust fund is set up or they will forfeit the fund entirely! A certain amount will be invested while another certain amount will be put into CDs/savings accts. DH & I will each have $1M to play with....the grandkids student loans will go away as well as son's house payments. Then we will see where we want to donate any amount...that will be a slow process in the donations...after a good investigation that the largest % isn't going to the folks running it...that it would actually do some good.

I do better playing the Slots than the lottery! Of course powerball winnings would eclipse slot winnings!

UPDATE: Cash value take home in Monday's drawing for me would now be just south of $300,000,000. Can't even imagine how to spend that amount, sounds like it would be work to do it. If Value Buy promised to follow through on not giving any to the GOP or a politician, I might just give him a stack to deal with.

I would come out of retirement to "work" at spending it So if you win keep me in mind I'm a real hard worker. Eta. No worries about giving to politician, I despise them one and all!

Slot playing is not an investment! (but is fun) It’s an investment in my mental health! You know I’m one of those little ole retirees pushing along on a walker with yellow tennis balls to help me scoot along! And spending my SS money and having to eat cat food. Boy that conjures up thread from long long ago

This was back in the day when we would mark down damaged cans & sell them. We had one elderly lady that would always buy the reduced cans of cat tuna. I asked her one morning what kind of cat she had..."none, that is what I eat because I can't afford anything else." You better believe that I would hide a few reduced price cans of various items to see if she wanted them, she was one of the first customers every morning after the day shift came on.

I buy tickets more often than you, having a standing set of numbers gleaned from a red eye flight to Frankfort almost 20y ago (yeesh) where my seatmate in business class was an executive from GTECH and we spent most of the flight talking algorithms and code. I still have his business card with those numbers on the back, in my handwriting. pre-COVID, I'd spend way more than that $10/wk on really stupid stuff, so this doesn't seem all that bad. lol... that said, since I started carrying my local life in my phone wallet case, I have zero use for change and small bills. so if I'm in a convenience store and pay with cash, I'll usually take my change in $1 and $2 scratch cards. do I think I'm investing? hell no lol... but that wallet case gets full quickly.

I was born/raised in/around Decatur, but after married, we bought a house that was rural with a Monticello address. But I worked at Kroger on the west side of town (Champaign) so it was an almost straight shot for me on Hwy.10 in to work. I worked there until they closed that store...then we moved to Ga....and I worked at another Kroger until it also closed.

I became a fan of a band based in Michigan. the two guys that formed that band moved to Champaign. when I was at a trade show in Chicago, they invited me down and I blew some sax parts for them. on the train ride down, I wrote a song for my one and only album, and I recorded that as well. I have stayed friends with them ever since.
so, I have spent "weeks" there, off and on, over the last two decades, but never more than a few days at a time.
