I don't know if anyone is following this story. I am confused as to why they can't make the BF talk to the police. Any ideas on what's going on? I'm also shocked by his parent's behavior. I don't know that I'd want someone living with me who possibly committed murder. www.msn.com/en-us/news/crime/boyfriend-of-missing-van-life-woman-wrote-mysterious-post-a-year-ago/ar-AAOrrgo?ocid=undefinedBrian Laundrie issued a statement through his attorney Steve Bertolino on Tuesday, after it emerged he had lawyered up and has been refusing to speak to police about his girlfriend's whereabouts.
Laundrie said in the statement, obtained by ABC7, he hopes the search for Petito is 'successful' but did not provide any explanation as to why he returned from their cross-country trip alone.
Petito was reported missing by her mom in Suffolk County, New York, on September 11 after the family hadn't heard from her in 13 days.
She had been traveling on a cross-country trip with Laundrie since July in their campervan on an adventure they were documenting on YouTube..
Petito last spoke to her mom on August 25 from Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming and her last confirmed sighting was the day earlier when she was spotted with Laundrie at a hotel in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Totally weird.
Police names the boyfriend as a person of interest so maybe now they can bring him in for questioning.
I don’t understand how he can have no comment on where she went. Did he wake up one morning and she was gone with no note? Where was that? Did he report it to the police?
It’s not like she’s a set of keys he mislaid somewhere. He can at least say where she was the last time he saw her.

I doubt she's alive. Since some people have a habit of taking risky photos, I'm hoping its an accidental death not an intentional one. The creepy thing is the mother got 5 texts that she suspects were not from her daughter after Aug. 25. If she wandered off, I'd hope he would go for help. I'm leaning to he doesn't want to be blamed for her death so he got a lawyer and became quiet.

There's basically a 1% chance he didn't kill her.

Most of the characters do not follow procedure, so its rare a suspect doesn't talk or gets the opportunity to say nothing.

If I was gonna go the Crime Show story plot route here's what I think happened:
She died of a drug overdose - her fiance woke up after a couple of days of "high" next to her dead body. In a state of panic - he got high again and passed out. A day or two later still in a panic (and now everything is even worse - she's been dead for days...) he dumps the body and heads out looking for more drugs to 'help him think clearly about what to do next and to dull the pain'.
He comes up with a story and as he's run out of money (for drugs) he heads home to mom and dad. He tells mom and dad his story - but they see through it and get the truth from him... it's an unfortunate accident that makes him and his family look really really bad and then they lawyer up.
I'm guessing that a couple that can afford to be on the road for 6 or 8 weeks - are either fairly wealthy or school teachers. I'm guessing the spectre of "doing drugs" ruins both of their careers if they are school teachers (well the guy's at least - the woman is dead). If they are wealthy - then odds are mom and dad are too and know enough to lawyer up and say as little as possible publicly. I'm guessing they will just let it play out and hope to get as lenient a "punishment" as possible with as little publicity as possible.
I'm guessing they are all just hunkering down - waiting for her body to be found - so the "truth can come out" and they can move to the next stage of the process. I'm guessing if her body is found quickly they will be in the news a lot longer than they want - they will have to wait for their "celebrity, everyone looking at them" to die down again. If it takes a while to find the body - it may not make the nightly news and they can all heave a huge sigh of relief - the "media storm" is over - and they can work on keeping their son out of jail.
If it turns out her boyfriend had anger issues or beat her - he killed her and it wasn't an accident. If it turns out it was an OD or a "photo op" gone bad accident (and the boyfriend isn't violent) then it's an accident and the guy is just responsible for being a crappy human being.

I don't think it was drugs. I was trying to find the video for their youtube channel for the trip but found something else. Apparently they had a fight in Moab on Aug. 12 which was documented by the police. She hit him during an argument. He tried to drive away in her van, and she managed somehow to crawl into the driver's side window to stop that.
Here's the link with that. Its a very slow laborious discussion. I'm not convinced the disappearance and murder of the lesbian couple on Aug. 13th is connected, but the guy goes over that as well. Around the 26 minute mark or so he addresses that police report. It takes him about 10 minutes to go through it.
Parts of the report are redacted, but since the word manic for some reason was left in, its possible both were unmedicated bipolar types.
ETA - I think part of the report mentioned he may have been drunk. Sounds like they weren't smart enough to abort the trip as they were fighting for days according to her prior to this incident.

They were in looooovvvvveeee, what could go wrong? I suspect being trapped in a van with someone for weeks in end led to a psychological break, and he has no idea what happened. He was scared, and went back to the only safe place he knows, mom and dads house.
Hell, being trapped in a van for months with my wife of 30-years would compel me to rethink my life choices, and we still like each other 😊

And it gets weirder. Apparently he flew back to Florida between 8/17 and 8/23. 8/24 there is physical evidence of her being in Salt Lake City Utah. I don't think Mom has revealed all the tweets after 8/25 yet, but its still curious to me he returned instead of just staying home. An extended van trip is not the best idea for a young couple who apparently broke off their engagement right before the trip. Its starting to feel pre-meditated to me even if he himself was on a manic high. www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/last-text-message-missing-gabby-petitio-sent-to-her-mother-is-revealed/ar-AAOtCqo?ocid=undefinedShe's also questioning Brian's trip back to Florida in August to help his father move their belongings out of a storage unit.
Brian left Gabby in the Fairfield Inn in Salt Lake City and flew back home to Florida from August 17 to the 23 to help his father empty out a storage unit where he and Gabby had their things.
According to Schmidt, Brian's father offered to let them keep their belongings at his house so they wouldn't have to pay for the storage unit.
He left Gabby at the hotel so she, understandably, wouldn't be alone in the van. Brian then flew back to Utah and they left the hotel together on August 24.
Schmidt now wonders why it was necessary to move Gabby's things during their road trip and what became of her stuff. 'Where are her things?' she asked.

I read an article about what a real 3 month van-life trip was like with another person. And although that guy didn't include murderous thoughts in his story, he was honest about the hard part of the journey - the inability to get any alone time, the inevitable annoyance with your companion, the discomfort of such a small weird space, the stress of being somewhere different all the time, the frustration of finding quality internet connections, etc.
It is fully reasonable to believe a normal spunky relationship would get increasingly more painful under those circumstances. And if neither of them knew how to call it quits, getting seriously worse is a distinct possibility. We all know he killed her. Let's see if he can OJ out of this one.

NEWS FLASH: MISSING PERSON REPORT FILED! Yup. Missing pretty young white females get all the national media attention while the average looking young women of color at best get just local attention for a day or two.

Well that's odd - because YOU are the one who brought up trials and fairness. Correct?

I think he knows something, whether its everything remains to be seen. I wonder if she really left Utah or not? Did he really fly to FL and back to Utah while on this trip? In the cop camera video he initially says he has to stick close to the van and Gabby because he has no phone. Yet towards the end of the hour plus video he has a phone and she has one. She even tells the cop to remind him to take his charger. His parents live in FL and he is with them there, yet the lawyer they hire is based on Long Island NY where her parents live. I looked at his website. He's not even one of those lawyers who has a practice in both NY and FL. I don't understand why it took her Mom so long to get the police involved. Odds are she had no idea that he was at his parents, yet if she usually spoke to her every three days, why wait for over two weeks after the last Facetime to take action? I still hope this was accidental even if it was two mentally exhausted people fighting.

When POC start getting fair trials, then maybe I'll give a shit about whether wealthy Caucasians do.

I read that as: "Correct Imawino, I am the one who brought up trials and fairness." I actually meant that the dress code for some courtrooms seems unfair when the weather is hot. Leads to quick convictions due to discomfort. This is patently unfair to the defendant. "I'm wondering what his chances are for a fair trial ?"It's right in there, don't see how you can miss it. Your post questioning whether he could get a fair trial mentioned *nothing* about the dress code. You can't even infer that's what you meant from what you said. So I call bullshit on that. Also, I'm pretty sure courtrooms are air conditioned so it's still bullshit.

There’s no evidence of a crime in Gabby Petito’s disappearance, Florida police say While it could be connected, I personally don't think it is. Brian and Gabby seemed to camp near no one. Creepy guy easily could have been a local who hated lesbians. And yes the tough thing is there is no evidence of foul play, so there is no evidence to allow a real investigation. Yet the fact he lawyered up once he got home implies he knows she's not coming back from personal knowledge. And given his lawyer's statement about intimate partners, it feels a little damning. Really, if any two people went out on a long trip, one returned and lawyered up, and the other one is missing, the returnee would be a suspect whether it was a parent, friend, colleague, spouse or whatever. It feels like the lawyer, Brian, and his parents do not expect for her to be found.

I don't think it was drugs. I'm gonna stick with drugs. here's why: Back a long time ago - the son of a wealthy, important local person crashed his car, killed a person, left his car and "ran away" (happened early Sunday AM). The young man was able to get home without being apprehended/questioned. The parents (and their lawyers) kept the young man "under wraps" at home for nearly 6 weeks. Even thought the police had his car and had eye witnesses who saw the young man get out of the car and run away from the scene. The police also had testimony from witnesses at the places the young man had been (restaurant, bars, dance club, bars) - drinking, getting high, drinking more, getting higher... the police didn't get to talk to the young man until almost 6 weeks after the accident. Plenty of time for the lawyers to get a case together. Plenty of time for no drug/alcohol tests, plenty of time for the young man to get "sober". The young man's "official" story was that it was a car accident - he was driving home after begin out and had swerved to avoid an on coming car that was in his lane (coming the wrong way down the one way street he was on). He wasn't speeding or so high or drunk that he missed a "curve" in the street, jumped the curb, went up an embankment and crashed his vehicle thru the wall of a brick building (killing the person on the other side of the wall when the wall and vehicle landed on them). Oh, no, young man was doing the speed limit of 25mph - the other vehicle he swerved to avoid caused him to go flying up and thru the building. (Odds are he was speeding - going atleast 50mph - probably more when his vehicle hit/jumped the curb, went airborne, and crashed thru the brick wall that was 30 feet from the curb and 6 feet above street level - killing the person inside the building) The case got dragged out for 3 years. The young man spent some time in jail during those 3 years (on and off) - the case ended with him being guilty and sentenced to prison time - but the periods of time he spent "in jail" before and during his trial counted towards that time - and he spent a couple of days in jail after the trial. There was some BIG ANGER from the local community - because the young man was known for his "partying ways"... His parents sold their house and moved before the trial ended. It's amazing what money, connections, and good lawyers can accomplish. Anyway - I'm guessing the parents of Brian Laundrie are sequestering their son - so that when he is taken in by police he's "clean and sober". I'm sure the young man and his lawyers are going over what actually happened and coming up with a story that mostly fits events that happened and are rehearsing it - so that when he is taken in and questioned by police - he has all the "right answers" that go with whatever story he's been told to spin. Just like the son of the wealthy, important local person story I told above.

Hear that sound way, way up there ? Wings flapping. There was no more talk of air conditioning in that one sentence answer, than racial equality as projected by imawino. (reply #15) My apology in #18. She continues with trolling. #22 I apply an equally nonsensical answer. #23 Bullshit indeed. Thing is, though, she's absolutely correct. If you asked these exact same questions, only with a Black man being the person of interest, my answer would be "none (or very little) chance". The jury probably wouldn't even truly listen to testimony because they've already convicted him. And if you can't see that things would be very different - simply because you didn't mention race - then you're blind. Willfully.

Tiny, you may be right. Its also possible given Brian wasn't taking drugs for issues he had like Gabby, i.e. anxiety or whatever, that he's actually been put on drugs. Brian was seriously speeding before he was pulled over by the police. Maybe the parents are trying to get him to a flat affect or less talky space. Hopefully we will eventually find out.

Willfully. Of course she's absolutely correct, I could list a hundred things from my one sentence answer that would be abolutely correct. It's the reason for my AC post, our courtroom wasn't Air Conditioned that long ago. My contention is that my one sentence answer wasn't about race, which I already said with apology in #18. She continued trolling on this afterwards, hence the AC post as example. Willfully blind indeed. If you wanted us to not leap straight to a race-based answer, then you should have phrased that post completely differently, for one. And if you were talking about dress code/AC, then that should have been stated at that time, as well. Instead, you deliberately left it open for interpretation - with the obvious having to do with race comparisons - and then threw in dress code/AC later and tried to make it sound like that's what you meant all along. Bullshit. It's trolling.

This Brian dude would have been smarter to stay away from home for a while. If he had gone off the grid for a bit, then both of them were reported missing, and then he suddenly shows up all beaten with a sob story about getting lost/attacked by wild animals, it wouldn't have been suspicious at all. It would have been a somewhat happy ending....one of them survived!
He can't even cover him self up well. He's guilty of something, whether it was an accident or not. Coming home without her, not reporting her missing, not talking, and lawyering up. Dude is guilty as hell!
I realize he panicked and did what most people would do. But coming home without her was his first and a huge mistake if he's trying to get away with something.

Well it looks like the boyfriend has now gone missing. link I wouldn't be surprised if they find him dead by suicide and then they really won't have a clue where to find her.
