Another article about the book: McConnell told Biden not to call Trump after the election, worrying it would send the erratic president into a fury: bookAfter the 2020 election, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell was so concerned about how President Donald Trump would react to a phone call from President-elect Joe Biden that he worked through a backchannel to ensure it didn't happen, according to an excerpt of a new book by journalists Bob Woodward and Robert Costa that was obtained by The Washington Post. What grown men talk like this? Last I heard anyone threaten not to be someone’s friend was a mean girl in third grade. Exactly what a narcissist says though. I’m the greatest person in the world, so obviously you will be crushed if I refuse to be your pal.

Because of what came out in this book, Trump is calling on his allies to charge Milley with Treason.
Yes, let’s charge the head of the military who decided to not act on any rash actions the enraged loser president might try to take post election, but let’s ignore the treasonous acts of that president on 1/6.
And frankly every time Trump makes a public complaint about the election being stolen from him, which happens anytime he gets within sight of a camera or microphone, that should be a separate treason charge for undermining our democracy.

I would like to have a public trial of Milley for treason. To properly defend him, the defense would be forced to call Donald J. Trump to testify under oath.

He was telling Pence he would be on the target list going forward.

That doesn't surprise me and was probably a good idea. I am currently reading "I Alone can Fix It". Its about Trump's last year in office and I am amazed at the amount of personality conflicts and infighting, although I probably shouldn't be.

Trump just wants to punish anyone he perceives as being against him. Milley did not do anything treasonous, but I think Trump has. Unfortunately I don't think we have any laws against misinformation or lies about elections.

The scary part is Pence was trying to figure out a way to comply with what Trump wanted, and ended up calling Dan Quayle to get his input on what to do. Quayle told him there was no legal way to do what Trump wanted, so just ignore him. Pence did, and democracy was saved. Dan Quayle!! A hero!!! Who’d a thunk.

So I wrote incorrectly- Trump is mad that Milley called China and reassured them that no matter what Trump said, the US would not suddenly attack them. That was back in the days I used to check the news first thing in the morning and last thing at night, terrified to find out what Trump might have done in order to cling to power. Glad to know more powerful people were also concerned and putting in safe guards.

The Quayle conversation is actually in the book I am reading. I don't see Quayle as a hero, as much as a former VP from Indiana who knew there was nothing legal Pence could do. Trump is used to people breaking the law on his behalf. Sometimes he can be mollified by ego stroking. Not sure if it would have worked for this case though.

Not just Pences life. His wife and daughter were there too. I don’t even want to think about what might have happened if that pack of friendly strolling tourists bumped into them. As a daughter would it be worse to see my dad hung or to be hung with my dad? Your mind can’t even contemplate it.

I don't find it terrifying because Pence does not strike me as a well traveled man. Quayle is from a rich Indiana newspaper family. He probably knows Quayle in some capacity. He probably does not know other recent VPs. I am glad Quayle did give him reasonable advice.

I agree with this. Unfortunately I think some people in his orbit do not see this basic truth. Chris Christie being one of them.

I think people in his orbit get excited about what Trump can do for them, if the bow and scrape good enough to get his favor, but they forget how quickly Trump throws them over when he no longer has a use for them - or he needs a scapegoat. Christie tried hard to get a position in the Trump admin but Jared wouldn’t allow that because Christie helped prosecute his dad. That was probably the best thing that could have happened to Christie though, because if he had joined, he would either be under investigation now or kicked out with the imprint of Trumps shoe on his butt.

The only thing I'd ever say to Trump if I was Pence is "I hope you die alone choking on your hamburgers. Then I'm inviting the Obamas, Bidens, Harris and the Clintons to tap dance on your grave."
