The women are all beautiful and invariably light up the room whenever they enter. The men? OMG! They're all handsome and personable. How is it that these people, whom everybody loves and who don't have any enemies, wake up dead as the result of some violet crime?

The same way that every accused murdered was "a nice, quiet person who kept to themselves and would never hurt anybody" or a "nice family man who loved his children"
Perspective is everything.

I watch a lot of those shows, too. I think it is because they don't mention Covid or politics. I don't pay close attention, but I get the gist of it.

I watch a lot of the shows too! Mainly because they have a beginning, middle and end. I don’t have to follow for 5 years to watch hot dude finally get hot bode But we have several channels that carry these cases and I’ve notice they are just renaming show and moving them around to different channels. Recorded one the other day and thought it sounded familiar I mean really we must have new murders for new shows Maybe we need a 12 step program. Half the time they make good background noise while I surf or read!

I try very hard to stay out of that handsome and likable category, that way I'm sure avoid a tragic and painful death.

Have you watched Midsommer Murders? Many of the victims in those stories are very unpleasant people. When some beloved village resident is the victim, it's usually because the murderer viewed them as an obstacle of some sort. Many of the victims in Death in Paradise start off looking like paragons of virtue, but when their lives are examined in the course of figuring out who killed them, they often turn out to be not so virtuous.

Probably for the same reason missing young girls who are white and blonde receive more national media attention than missing young black/brown girls.

Death as entertainment requires good looking people to do the dying otherwise it wouldn't be entertainment - it would be real life?

Makes me kind of glad that no one will ever say I "lit up the room" about me.

She’s a detective in a northern English blue collar area, and a lot of victims aren’t that wonderful. A kid who, it turns out, enjoyed mean cat fishing games. A drug dealer. An unstable kid prone to violence. The nice thing about Vera is she doesn’t care if the victim is attractive or ‘nice.’ Also, she calls everyone’pet’ and she’s middle aged and frumpy, always wearing a rumpled raincoat, but she’s really good at her job.
