For me it really depends on how you do the math. I bought a Class B RV last year for $21,000. I hope to get at least 10 years out of it so I guess I could guess at it costing $2,100 year.
Over the summer we have had 3 weeks away at a family camp. (We parked the camper on the property for free) I've spent $200 in gas going back and forth and we bought the camp owner a new lawn mower as a thank you, $375. I'm not going to count groceries because we would have eaten anyway. I spent $50 on fireworks one week. So those 3 weeks cost $2,625, $525 if you don't count the van.
Then we have gone for 2 other weekends at another location that cost us $40/night for 4 nights total. Let's say another $100 for gas. So those 2 weekends were $260 total or $130 each.
So under $3,000 for about a month of getaways. $900 if you don't count the cost of the van.

They opened up the pools here after the 4th of July. And that is as far as I have gone. I had a swimsuit so cost was $0. I do hope that I will be able to travel to Munich in December though. I bought my ticket for that in March. Dates can be changed so it could still end up a 2022 trip

I went to Seattle in May. That was about $1000 for M-Sat.
Then F-M in nola that was another $700ish not including flight on rewards.
I dunno if my friend's wedding counts as vacation but with a canceled flight and having to figure it out that was another $1000.
I'm going on a weekend cruise for labor day, that'll be under $700.
Another weekend cruise in September that'll be like $600.
Still have two more weeks to plan before years end. And a week with family that will prob only be $200 or so.

I'll let you know this winter. 😄 I don't really vacation in the summer. I leave that to people with school kids. Once school is back in session, I'll be taking off a lot!

I need to pull up a report from YNAB. We went camping 4 days in May, 4 days in June, 4 days in July and 4 days in August. Have spaces booked for 5 nights in Sep, 4 nights in Oct and 4 nights in Nov.
The biggest expense is the campsite fee (about $45 for full utilities and $30 for no utilites), then gas to get there and back. We cook most nights (eat out once per trip).

$1500 or so? We rented a house for 4 nights. Brought most of our food..ended up eating out like once a day, usually for lunch. We also spent some money in the local economy.
Yes. Worth it. We had two days where the 6 of us spent real quality time together.. We talked, we laughed, we enjoyed each other. I figure, except for holidays during the school year, that's the last time that will happen until whenever we can schedule a graduation party in Summer of 2022.

My major trip was a splurge but typical for my big trips. I take two in most years but with COVID that won't happen in 2021. UnCruise to Alaska two weeks ago: $4,600 for the cruise (including the dreaded Single Supplement but minus loyalty discounts) $500 tip (totally voluntary and on the generous side for what they suggest) $1,200 Airfare $300 overnight in Seattle; for the overnight in Anchorage I used Hilton points Not too many extras: maybe $200 on stuff I bought and a few overpriced restaurant meals. So, $6,600 but they refunded half the cruise cost since it terminated early due to the two cases of COVID on board and I have a $300 credit on Alaska Airlines since I wasn't able to get Business Class part of the way home after I had to come home a day early. So it turned out to be a bargain!

We went to New Orleans, LA; Gulfport, MS; Pensacola, FL; and Mobile, AL for 8 nights at the end of July/beginning of August.
Flights for 4: $1000 Rental Car/Transportation/Gas: $605 Hotels: $875 (used points for 3 nights in Pensacola)
Food: $725 (combo of eating out and grocery pick up order; if our hotel didn't have free breakfast, we ate granola bars and/or fruit) Parking: $6.75 (used a bunch of points from work travel to cover almost all of our airport parking) Excursions/Fun Stuff: $665 (aquariums, zoos, USS Alabama, etc - we also used our local science center pass to get free entry to a couple of kids/science centers; we were supposed to do a dolphin boat ride, but a storm cancelled it and we couldn't reschedule that, so ended up spending less than expected here)
Total: $3877

$15,000. But I got to stay home. I have five sisters and one brother. When Mom was alive, we used to get together in early August. But Mom passed away in 2017. Covid was decreasing in the spring, so my youngest sister suggested that we gather in Minnesota in early August. A Christian retreat was available near the Twin Cities with decent rooms, a swimming pool, and three meals a day. Knowing how expensive it can be to travel, I told the family that I would pay for the 4 nights of rooms and meals at the retreat. All told, there were 29 of us there - not all stayed at the retreat, so it was a bit less than $15,000, but I told my youngest sister who did all the planning to keep the rest (she's poor as a church mouse and extremely frugal). Only 3 relatives could not make it. It was wonderful! And well worth it. Plus I got to drive the 30 minutes home each night and sleep in my own bed. By the way, the relatives came from as far away as Massachusetts, Atlanta, North Carolina, and Colorado.

Nothing. We decided this was not the year to do any traveling. Of course, I've got the itch to go SOMEWHERE, but it'll have to wait until at least 2022. Unless of course, the anti-maskers and those who refuse to be vaccinated make Covid go on even longer...

Didn't get to go, was so disappointed, not sure what hubs spent, but I'm guessing $1500 or more for gas, hotel rooms, and buying dinner for 6 several times. And I doubt I get to go anywhere. Makes me sad.

GF and I did a week in Chicago in May. Made it "Museum Week" since we had free admissions to several of them. Went to Lincoln Park Zoo and Conservatory, Art Institute of Chicago, Museum of Science and Industry, Shedd Aquarium, and the Field Museum. Missed out on Adler Planetarium because it was still closed. Still had a great week at a great price. Airfare, six nights in hotel, meals, and transportation for both of us was probably $1500-1600. Two of the meals were at Rick Bayless' side-by-side award winners Frontera Grill and Topolobampo. Had to do a couple of pizza places too. Lou Malnati's and Giordano's, also both good.

We took 2 1-week vacations this summer. Week 1: Beach in NC. Split cost of house with siblings - $400 (our portion) <snip> Week 2: Hamptons + NYC. Housing (split with sibling) $3,700 - our portion. I continue to be amazed at the difference in rental costs between NY/NJ beaches and NC/SC. My family would drive from Ohio to the Outer Banks in NC and get one week in an oceanfront house for a reasonable amount. The Ex and I rented one in Avon in 1984 for under $1,000 for the week. At the same time, people were renting oceanfront homes in NJ for $30K for the summer- so maybe $3,000/week. I'm sure that if you could find a place to rent for a single week it was more than that. It made me realize why my parents had driven all the way to the Outer Banks.

The Outer Banks is pretty expensive these days. Unless you go in May or September before true summer season, families are looking at $3,500 to $5,000 for a house rental each week. At my old job, at least three people in my department (of less than 10) went to the Outer Banks every summer.

Yeah DH's family is a fan of the Outer Banks and it is not cheap. If you want oceanfront it's even more money. I'm looking at an agency they use and a 5 bedroom oceanfront the last week of September is $7,000. No pool. It looks like rates are not really dropping until October this year.
I got a 6 bedroom oceanfront house with pool for early October in Myrtle Beach for $3,000.

We’ll be renting small house next to beach at the jersey shore for 2 weeks this September. September costs decrease a lot compared to July and August. We also prefer the September ocean temps and lack of crowds We pay one week friends pay other. Total rent is $4400, we bought travel insurance this year for $440 in case of hurricane or if one of us had gotten ill. Other costs will be dinners or lunches out. Don’t count groceries cause we’d buy anyway No cost for gas for my Tesla, supercharger nearby won’t cost anything either.
Sadly no other vacation planned for this year. We never travel in summer cause we live on a lake. Might take vacation with son’s family to Hawaii or Costa Rica at their kids spring break - depending on Covid . Will be happy when the two little ones,7,5, can get vaccine

Will be happy when the two little ones,7,5, can get vaccine Oh, I agree! DS’ in-laws have been great about including them in safe family vacations- a rented condo in Breckenridge, camping- but the little ones are 7, 5 and 3. And the latest from the KC Ballet is that they won’t allow under-12s to performances and I was hoping to take them all to The Nutcracker this Christmas. I can see why rented houses/condos are so popular now.
