The Afghanis had 20 years to secure their country. I cannot fathom how some people, especially any Americans, somehow think this is our fault, or really, our problem.

I think this all goes to our arrogance on how we think other countries should/could change to be like ours and our ways of life with our massive amount help all the while not taking into account the culture. If you think about it, on a really small scale, the colonialization of these countries is like the movie My Fair Lady. You take a low class person and attempt to bring them up your righteous social norms to make them a pillar of society. I'm trying to remember a country over the last 60yrs that we helped win democracy and maintained it. I'm sure some history buff will be able to but none readily comes to mind.

I see Biden finally got out of the White House went on a road trip to the South to see the damage Ida did. The damage was bad. I'm glad I don't live in the South to have to worry about that.
But I wonder how hard it would have been if Biden had taken a sharp left and also gone to the Texas border to see the huge mass illegal immigration crisis brewing at the border to see for himself. That's a big problem now facing the US with no solution in sight.
I want to know just where they are putting all these people along the border? The detention camps must be overflowing?? And where are these camps?

I don't think he cares that much about that problem. you can vote accordingly.
however, I will also point out that he assigned that job to someone else. if you are going to get mad about HER performance, then blame her, imo. and no, I have no problem with you doing that.
PS- it is further from New Orleans to McAllen than it is from Washington DC to Chicago. people that are not from that part of the country have no idea how far it is.

Your right about Harris. She's become the invisible VP. I rarely hear on the news anything about her. I'm sure she didn't much like it when Biden did a lateral pass of the border time bomb football to her. I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when that happened. Whats really scary is if Biden gets tossed out she becomes the president. God help us all no matter what your political affiliation is.

I think Ida is the important thing right now. NJ luckily did not get the wind the South did, but we had flooding and tornados. It was pretty bad. Flooding in places it hadn't flooded before. I am glad I wasn't near where a tornado developed and took out several large homes.

The worst I can imagine her being is far less than one-tenth as bad as Trump was. After the last few years, I'll take my chances. She may not have the same vision for America that I do, but I seriously doubt she will try to destroy it like the last PO tuS.

Has Biden changed course from Trumps path of cutting off financial assistance to South American countries? If you’re starving it becomes imperative you migrate someplace else, even when you know you’re not wanted. Obama had been paying for some of the countries to establish camps for poor people in their own territories to feed the poor, which helped reduce immigration on our southern border to very low levels. Trump cut that off and increased the number of immigrants coming. Preferred the stick to the carrot method, as he does with all things.

RipVanWinkle should pray for President Biden's good health if he's that concerned about Harris.

Did Biden toss rolls of paper towels to the people affected by Ida? If not, please start complaining that he is not showing the " empathy and decorum" we should expect coming from a sitting persident

If trump strolls down the escalator again there won't be any paid actors this time to cheer him on. Former Trump aide says campaign paid actors to appear at his 2016 presidential announcementlink

BTW--when do you think Trump will stroll down the escalator with a declaration that HE IS GOING TO BUILD A WALL AND MEXICO IS GOING TO PAY FOR IT? The talking point of any American regardless of political party SHOULD be Afghanistan and how badly it was handled. I hope there is a congressional investigation on it. Why was it handled so badly? Who gave Biden all the bad advice and did he just ignore it. Are any of these "experts" going to lose their jobs? Is this a impeachable event like the Dems did to Trump over his leaked phone call to Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Why not impeach Biden over his July call to Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani? In his call he said the “perception around the world and in parts of Afghanistan, I believe, is that things aren’t going well in terms of the fight against the Taliban,” says Biden in the July 23 call. “And there’s a need, whether it is true or not, there is a need to project a different picture.” or this The best case scenario would be Joe get impeached by the House but not the Senate like Trump because they don't want Harris as President.

Reminder of what Trump's call was about: In July 2019, he urged his Ukrainian counterpart to investigate one of the frontrunners to take him on in the 2020 presidential election. link

As a side note, I’m glad we don’t have to pay for Biden to visit one of his resorts every weekend, with taxpayers picking up the cost of the SS teams staged there, and the possibility that Biden might blab state secrets in the resort dining room. Cheaper for the taxpayers to have a president who doesn’t travel except when necessary.

Yeah, I think most Americans are glad to get out of that mess. Let the investigations begin, let's find out what the hell we were doing there for 20 years in the first place. Do you really think the withdrawal would ever have been a smooth operation? We probably would have been out years ago if that were the case! Thank you President Biden for ending that mission with no plan on what to do once we put boots on the ground!

The call wasn't well done, but its far from impeachable. I would have preferred he acknowledged that things were going badly and they were attempting to speed up the departure. But he wasn't using a foreign power and bribes to go after a political enemy. It's sad Biden knew it was going to heck then and did not let the American people know. I think it would have been far better to let us know than to pretend things were proceeding in an expected fashion. He was unable to hide the news of the Taliban taking over as quickly as they did. It was not a surprise to me things weren't going to go well near the end. I feel bad for the soldiers who lost their lives. But I feel far worse for the people in the US who lost their lives due to Ida. They weren't soldiers pledging their lives for a cause, they were just people, some of them very young caught up in floodwaters worse than expected. NJ's death toll is now 25. www.northjersey.com/story/news/new-jersey/2021/09/03/ida-nj-deaths-damage-flooding-hurricane-updates/5710535001/

Ford was not impeached from the withdrawal from VietNam, which was also quite messy. there were no inquiries into it, and America was collectively relieved to see it over.
that is how I expect this to go.

Yes. America is collectively glad to be out of that money pit. It’s just the Trump MAGA people itching to do a tit for tat impeachment of Biden that are currently howling for blood. If presidents were impeached for handling things in an incompetent way Trump would have been gone six months after Covid struck.

If Biden should be impeached for Afganistan then where were the calls from all these outraged people to impeach Trump over Syria?

I hate to say it, but I am not too concerned about Afghanistan, and if you are American (civilian) and stuck there-why were you there in the first place? And why did you wait until the last possible minute to leave?
