My wife has been under the weather for almost a week now. She called the doctor's office and was asked if she had covid symptoms or a fever. She has a fever. Was told not to come in until you have a covid test. She decided she wanted a Covid test. Set one up for next Tuesday with CVS Pharmacy. Earliest she could get in. I said we can do it earlier than that...... I checked with our county health department website Listed a number to call, no appointment necessary for testing........ Called it and they said we do not do that at this office, but gave me the address where they are doing the drive thru testing, with no appointments. Immediately took her there. In line for five minutes had not moved forward, car was in park, and car in front of me backs up into our car..........striking front grill, etc. Young woman gets out and says sorry but we have an appointment at Walgreen's in an hour..........an hour when one is two minutes west of this site, but maybe that was not the one she has the appointment.....exchanged insurance and info, she leaves and I steam....... FREE COVID TEST HERE! signs everywhere at a closed bank building where you looped around the back all the way to the front door of the building where two cars at a time were being taken care of. Once in the maze, no way out because of curbing. etc. 45 minutes and it is our turn. She asks if we have an appointment. I said we do not need one according to the county. She says they are incorrect, gave us the q code to put on the phone, and were told to leave so they could get to the next cars in line. Do the paperwork on your phone and you can get back to the end of the line (no cuts back in because we were already in line) Turns out it is not COUNTY OPERATED SITE but just another company BILLING OUR GOVERNMENT for the free test.
so tomorrow morning at 8:40 am we will be 19th in line. I know it will go smoothly tomorrow (not) and I do not think she haa covid as both of us have been totally vaccinated since mid March and I feel fine so far....would think if she has it, I would be feeling nasty by now, and if she does have it, how many people could be infected before she is actually tested. Based on local news as well as Chicago nightly news it sounds like it is the appocalypse again this summer and the state is not ready for it. We were tested in January last year to make sure we were ok to travel to Florida and had the Modurna shots in Florida. I guess my point is, if this is out of control again, why cannot we get the test when needed..........I remember people who were tested in January this year that tested positive were told to stay home and they will contact you in a few days to see how you were doing! Rant over.......

Update...... Arrived at 8;10 for our 8;40 appointment. Finally at the front of the line at 8;32 only because people without appointments were given info to apply online and come back lessoning the line totals. My wife observed on the low lying marquee in front on the road it stated: "no appointments necessary". I pointed that out to the female attendent who was the same one that turned us away yesterday, and only asked that it be removed to avoid more confusion.......anyway, attendent after asking if we had an appointment, asked for my wife's name and went back in to get the swab kit. We were told to open the kit and fill out info on the enclosed sheet, name adress phone email then take the cannister for the swab out and fill out the tiny label on the vial.......waited til 8:50 to get the go ahead to swab both nostrils, break part of the swab off place in vial and put the cap on. I thought we were finished. She then asked do you want the ten minute test. (we thought that was what we did, but that is the test that takes two to three days to get result back) That finished the testing at 8:58 am. Attendent told us we would be notified by email the result of the rapid test within 30 minutes. (sign says 15) It is now 10:20 am central, and still no result sent to us. Had a 26 yr old niece get the rapid test yesterday and had results in 20 minutes, but this was at a location in the neighboring county. She was negative.

Wow. That sounds like a hassle! Sorry you had to go through all of that. Rant warranted!
When I had Covid in November, I had NO idea. No symptoms. I only tested because DD2 and her husband tested positive and I babysit for them.
I just got over having a cold for at least 2 weeks, a few days ago. It seems more likely that's what your wife has. But good to be tested, to know for sure.
I hope this mess ends soon! Good luck!
