How much vacation time do you get per year?

Anyway, I get 4 weeks of PTO per year (no separate sick time bucket ). However, I have nearly 16 weeks banked right now. ;D

Part of that is because I am a workaholic, but I also think of my vacation time as a backup emergency fund. If I should lose my job for any reason, I figured I would get paid out for my unused PTO (my employer is pretty stable so the chances of losing it are pretty slim). And the longer I wait to cash it out, the more the vacation time is worth thanks to salary increases.

Does anyone else think of their vacation time in the same manner, or am I just being weird?

I do the same I get 3 weeks vacation that will be paid when I leave employment and have about 550 hours saved. I get 96 hours sick but seldom am sick so get paid 1/3 of the unused each Jan with 192 hours carried forward.

So if I was really sick now I could get about 225 hours sick leave then start using vacation and since both accrue even if you are out sick or on vacation it would last about a year.

Oh I plan to. I'd like to take 1-2 months off next year and explore Europe. I can't take that much time off this year due to major projects at work, but next year looks pretty good as we won't have any significant upgrades since they'll all be completed this year.

My job is use it or lose it: Vacation/personal time I get 3 weeks a year.

My wife can transfer up to 40 hours (so 1 week max) into the next fiscal year and also get about 3 weeks a year.

Company max is 30 days per year but everyone starts below that and accrues 2 more days each year. Currently at 23 days per year. Not use or lose it so it rolls forward. Once things slow down here I plan to take some time off because I need/want it and I don't want to max out.

Four weeks, use it or lose it. That's vacation only, and is based on a combination of time with the company and rank.

ETA: In 2012 I hit my 10-year anniversary and it goes to 5 weeks. ;D

Depends upon length of service. DH has been with his place of employment nearly 24 years, he gets 7 hrs every other week and I think he had 140 banked. He has over 800 hours of sick leave banked though.

4 weeks PTO is both vacation and sick days. Company is 3 weeks for years 1-3, 4 weeks for years 4-6, and then 5 weeks for everyone over 7 years of service.

We used to be able to carryover only 120 hours (3 weeks), but that was bumped up to 480 (12) that can be carried over. I think this is for fathers and adoptive parents who don't get paid short-term disability when welcoming a child into their family.

I cashed out about 2 days last year and carried over 3 weeks, but I am planning on cashing out almost 3 weeks this year and still having 3 weeks in the bucket. Only used a week of vacation time this year. Woud I like to go on a vacation? Yes! But it isn't in the cards at the moment. I will either vacation or get LASIK with my vacation time cashout though!

I get 6 hours every two weeks, so four weeks a year (that will increase to 8 hours every two weeks in about four years). We're allowed to bank 240 hours, after that it's use-or-lose. Also get 4 hours sick leave every two weeks.

We have ~10 paid holidays. (Six plus the week between Christmas and New Year's off.) All full-time employees accrue 12 hours per month of vacation time (for a total of eighteen days per year). You can bank up to 216 hours. Vacation time is exactly the same for all employees regardless of length of service. Every six years, you're eligible for a six week sabbatical.

Sick time is considered separately. There's no defined limit, but I think you have to have additional documentation if you're out more than seven consecutive days.

I accrue 6 hours of annual leave (vacation) a pay period (this is dependant on service time), and 4 hours of sick leave. You can only roll over 240 hours of annual leave into the next year (no limit for sick time), but I've never gotten to that point. I have a lot of sick time saved up that I plan on using if I ever have kids, as there's no paid maternity leave.

My current (soon to be old) job - 17 days vacation, 9 holidays, 8 days sick time (can be banked).

My new job - 22 days vacation (can be rolled over), 10 holidays, 3 personal (paid) days, 2 weeks sick time for the first year, then 1 month paid plus 75% pay for a second month (then it goes up to 3 months and 3 months after 3 years).

I used to get two weeks vacation, two personal days and five sick days. I recently changed jobs to go back to an old employer. Fortunately they really wanted me back, so I negotiated for three weeks vacation. Everyone here gets three personal days, and we have a very generous sick leave. It's actually part of our short-term disability, so technically we have weeks of sick time, however, you can only take two days in a row without a doctor's excuse.

We can't bank vacation and personal days. It's use it or lose it.

Wow steph. I have 12 years here and get 3 weeks, use-or-loose. 4th week comes at 15 years. I do not have sick leave, just an honor system not to abuse it. We get 9 "holidays", but we run 24/7, about 363 days/year.

Three weeks (based on years of service), with the option to purchase 2 more for a total of 5 weeks. Since buying the vacation is essentially getting time off without pay (they withhold from your check until you use it, then pay it back to you), I pass on that option.

Sick time is based on years of service. Right now I have 6 months. It renews every year. So my maternity leave this summer will fall under that for the most part, and then I will take some time unpaid. They set it up this way so you have enough sick time to pay your full salary until LTD kicks in incase something drastic happens.

15 PTO days per year (that includes personal time). We also get half-days on Fridays between Memorial Day and Labor Day. We get to roll over up to 5 vacation days a year, but I don't roll any over. Last year I only had 10 and I don't think that's enough. Take a weeklong vacation and 5 various random days and there's your vacation for the year.

Ok, just curious because I've never had a job that had them, but what is a personal day compared to a vacation day?

apple, the other jobs I had were hourly and personal time was off the clock. You either had to use vacation time (given in hours) or you didn't get paid. I'm salary now, and at my company personal days could be taken at the discretion of your supervisor without affecting your vacation bank. These would be for things like taking off for a religious holiday that the company is open for. Since our large acquisition last May, the policies have changed to give everyone an extra 5 days of time off and that did away with the discretionary personal time.
