So one year I paid slate and got slate plus. Now I am not paying and think I have a few article a month limit. There are plenty of ads so not sure why limited.
Is the limit a new thing for all? Or only for those like I who subscribed one year and now they are weirdly trying to get me to subscribe again? So then what’s slate plus if you have to pay anyway?
I was inclined to subscribe again, but conversely this highly limited access with lots of ads makes me not want to!

Market Watch, which publishes the Moneyologist columns, also makes you pay. They allow you the same few articles a month limit.
What I do is use all 3 browses--Edge, Chrome, and Firefox. I copy and paste the headline into one of the other browses and usually haven't used up my limit there.

I have noticed that a lot more have gone to subscription this year...with a few free article each month usually. I don't subscribe to any of them, so I generally find what I'm interested in reading at a different site.

They've had the limit since they introduced plus.

You get more articles on slate plus I think too. Some are only released on it. Not worth the $5 imo though.

Ever since I graduated from college I've subscribed to the local paper - the Minneapolis StarTribune. Now I just subscribe to the online version. About four years ago I also started subscribing to the online versions of The New York Times and The Washington Post. I liked reading their articles and wanted to support the papers. Then I realized the importance of supporting a free and fair press, and I made a commitment to subscribe to other news sources that I liked such as the L.A. Times. Not everyone can afford to subscribe to a variety of news sources. I certainly understand that. But since I do have the resources, I decided that supporting the news sources that I valued was something I enjoyed doing.

The local paper here is the expensive one but I want to know about local happenings so I subscribe to the online version. They no longer put out a print version on Mondays and it's much smaller than it used to be.
I also subscribe to the Boulder Daily Camera for $5 month. That is mostly for sports but it has more national news than the local paper.
I sometimes subscribe to the Washington Post. Depends on the special they have going.
If we don't support local news, there will be no local news.

I have always had a paper subscription to whatever the local paper was. Between TD and I, we have subscriptions to the NYT, WP, and several others.

I like CNBC better now, anyway.

My local newspaper subscription ran out on February 15. They let me log in until last night. So I paid the new subscriber price for another year.
