GA governor Kemp got booed at a GOP convention in Georgia. www.cnn.com/2021/06/05/politics/brad-raffensperger-brian-kemp-georgia-republican-convention/index.htmlBack in the 2020 election, Trump put massive pressure on Kemp to simply toss the votes from several heavily democratic districts around Atlanta. Kemp would have done that if he could, but the GA constitution does not allow the governor to do that. Since then, Kemp has pushed through a new voting law that does give new powers to the GA government to throw out votes it doesn’t like. However, that apparently wasn’t enough to satiate Donald Trump, who very shortsightedly trash talks Kemp and the GOP Secretary of State Raffensburger any chance he gets. Kemp used to be the Secretary of State in Georgia, prior to his run for governor, and during his run he very openly tried to make it harder for minority voters to cast their ballots. He send out one of his buddies in the election commission to shut down polling places in black areas of rural counties, claiming those voting places were not ADA compliant. This forced minority voters to travel a lot longer to the next nearest poll. I live in a rural but very white GA county and none of our polling places were closed, although all but one of them have ADA issues (stairs you have to climb). I can walk into my polling place and cast my vote within just a few minutes, while polling places in heavily minority areas can have 8 to 12 hours to wait. By relying on these subversive tactics, Kemp barely managed to squeak out a win for governor against Stacy Abrams. So here is how Trump is shooting himself in his foot with Kemp - Stacy Abrams is expected to announce that she’s running against him for governor in 2022. There are already commercials running about how the GOP has further tried to restrict minority voting. Abrams’ has increased her GA and national recognition since the previous governor election - and every time Trump trashes Kemp, Trump makes it more likely Abrams will win. Most likely, a GOP contender for governor will step forward, and will probably win the primary, but there will be a bloody primary run. At the same time, it looks like Abrams will run unopposed, and all the monkey wrenching the GOP has done to try to restrict the ability of minorities to vote runs the risk of alienating the moderate GOP and independent voters. It may seem far fetched that a black woman could be the GA governor, but I would have said it was really far fetched that our two state senators would be a Blackman and a Jewish man, and yet here we are, thanks to Trump’s insistence that the GA voting system was corrupt, which kept a bunch of GOP voters at home for the January senate election run offs. www.ajc.com/politics/hopefuls-begin-lining-up-to-run-in-2022-with-a-kemp-abrams-rematch-topping-the-ticket/I5BGUHXHTRG7NP3Q57YVTBTENY/Trump is not helping the GOP win. He lost the House, the Senate, and the presidency, and he’s still making it harder for GOP candidates to win. And yet the GOP thinks it can’t win without him.

Yup, the party is all in on cray-cray.
I am just trying not to get to over optimistic and complacent. The Dems still have a lot of work ahead of them not to lose the House and Senate for one. The other is that Cray-Cray thoughts lead to Cray-cray actions, including violence and domestic terrorism.

HH, do you think Kemp is running again? I wonder with all the bad publicity he is getting from DT. I'm hoping this opens up the field (whether Kemp runs or not) & we have a new governor who's name is Stacey!

An expensive and bruising GOP primary would not be a bad thing for the Democrat in the general election.

I think it’s ironic that Kemp, slavishly devoted to Trump, stands a good chance of not being elected because he did not commit an illegal act to throw out the Atlanta votes to make daddy Trump happy. I hope there is a brutal primary between Kemp and whatever half wit candidate does the best job at sucking up to Trump. The half wit will win, and hopefully the moderate GOP voters and independent voters are sufficiently horrified by the half wit and impressed by Abrams (who is an excellent speaker) that she easily walks away with the governor post. Extra sweet bonus - the racist Georgians who can’t stand a black female governor, black senator and Jewish senator pack up their flags and mobile homes and coon dogs and move to Alabama, which is so backwards only 15% of the state is vaccinated.

Psst, HH. I'm pretty sure that you left out a "not" between the two words that I have bolded above. Feel free to edit that post if you want to. It won't change how your last post appears in this post, but it will make things a tad more coherent.
My second quibble is a bit more tentative. I don't live in Georgia or follow its constantly changing election law, so I may be wrong here. But didn't Kemp not only refuse to commit an illegal act but also not even have the power to do so?
Throw the words "attempt to" behind the missing "not" and what we're looking at gets even scarier. Kemp's getting booed for not attempting to do something that was not only illegal but also far beyond what he had the power to do. He did not sacrifice his freedom, his fortune, his job, and his pension for Trump, hence the boos.

I don’t understand why Trump is still relevant and important to some people. He’s no longer in a position of power (thank God!), so why does anyone even care what he thinks or says?
If I had my way, he’d be buried in lawsuits and legal battles, so much so that he wouldn’t have time to continue to meddle in politics because he’d only have time and energy to mind his own business trying to stay out of prison and not lose everything he has.

As long as any candidates for the House and Senate go to Mar-a-Lago for his blessing he is still relevant. I totally agree with the lawsuits and legal battles and hope they make him irrelevant. He does have family proxies though.👹

Oh believe me if Kemp could have tossed the Atlanta votes he would have. There was nothing legal Kemp could have done, but that didn’t stop Trump from insisting he do something. Same bullshit he pulled on Pence, when he expected him to refuse to certify Biden’s win. Georgia recently passed some restrictive voting laws, which does allow for the election commission to reject votes from counties where they think there was fraud, and yes, that is extremely scary. The counties certify their votes - and no one else should.
